Chapter 69: Laughter of Rose (2)

Thomas momentarily forgot to breathe, and the cold hand that had been clutching his stomach was suddenly released as instant warmth spread across his entire body. He quickly bowed down with all his considerable weight.

"That horn! You are from the lineage of gods!"

The stranger just smiled innocently and looked behind them. Specifically towards the house, where Lily was still watching the meeting between her papa and the stranger with a bored expression.

Seeing that the stranger was looking directly at her and waving his hand in greeting, Lily’s face immediately reddened and she quickly hid to the side, taking the wall as her shelter while giggling like a little girl caught doing something naughty.

She got caught spying. Her mother reprimanded her for peeking at her papa’s business, but she didn’t particularly care about the scolding, and after a moment of calming her racing heart down, she once again peeked around the corner, this time just poking her head out from the side.

But her expression quickly turned strange and uneasy. The stranger was completely gone from the bench, he couldn’t be seen anywhere in the vicinity.

And not to mention, her papa was still sitting perfectly still on the bench, looking up at the sky like he was contemplating something profound. She felt a cold hand touching her heart like an ominous warning saying something was terribly amiss.

She quickly stepped out of her house, again completely ignoring her mother’s warning and walked through the wheat field towards the bench.

The goats were still grazing peacefully like nothing in the world mattered to them, and when she finally reached behind the bench, she looked around desperately for the stranger but there was no stranger anywhere.

"Strange. Papa, where did the stranger disappear to?"

She looked all around the area. Where could the stranger even disappear into so quickly? Did he somehow climb down from the steep hill? Who would do something that dangerous?

But then again, where did he originally come from? He certainly didn’t walk through the front door of her house because she would have definitely seen that!

Sighing in confusion, she decided to sit on the bench beside her papa to enjoy the view, after all, the orange sky of the setting sun was a sight to live for. Her papa loved it so much!

"Papa, why aren’t you speaking at all? Are you mesmerized by the stranger? He he he."

She snickered playfully and walked around the bench to tease her papa more about his mysterious visitor, only to stop dead in her tracks, her heart suddenly beating wildly in her chest.

Her eyes shook violently as she took an involuntary step backward while shaking her head in denial.

Goosebumps spread across her entire body like a wave as she processed the horrifying view before her.

Then she screamed at the absolute top of her lungs!

...

Back at Wing L, Room 616 of the men’s dormitory, Kaizen’s eyes shook violently like they were experiencing their own personal earthquake as he gazed upon the cheerful yellow sticky note sitting innocently on Klaus’s desk.

He took a terrified step backward, then rubbed his eyes once again with both fists, making absolutely sure that Helga’s mysterious gray slop hadn’t finally made him go blind or start hallucinating demonic office supplies, and gasped in pure horror.

On the yellow sticky note, just a short paragraph was written in elegant handwriting.

"We are here, 77. Awaiting your order."

Kaizen’s brain immediately started buffering like a cheap laptop trying to run advanced software. He couldn’t understand what was happening at all. Who was here? What orders were they awaiting? And why did this sound like a military operation?

And more importantly, what the hell is this 77?

But one thing he knew for absolute certain. This note was meant for Klaus! The Demon King Candidate who probably used color-coded sticky notes to organize his world domination plans!

’Does this mean what I think it means?’

Does this mean Klaus’s demon brethren from hell were already here on campus and awaiting his orders for a coordinated attack? Were they hiding in the vending machines? Disguised as pigeons?

In Demon Hunter Chronicles, the amount of demon summoning and possession of students were annoyingly common game mechanics. Obviously, demons had to be summoned here by someone with actual power.

In the game, it was just a convenient way for Leo to solve problems, defeat the demons, and gain more ability points like a demonic experience farm, but here in actual reality where Kaizen could actually die... 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

’What terrifying thing is Klaus gonna summon?!’

’A mere student could only summon pathetic demons at E and F rank!’

’So what the hell would the actual son of dark magic who has direct connections to the underworld be able to summon?!’

His heart began to pound with absolute horror, just as he heard the electronic beep of a card swiping from the other side of the door.

Only one other person possessed the key card to this room of doom, and that was obviously his eccentric, terrifying, and possibly homicidal roommate who was about to walk in.

In a moment of pure panic that bypassed all logical thinking, Kaizen crumbled the paper into a tiny ball and frantically looked around for a place to hide the evidence.

He couldn’t just throw it away because Klaus would definitely find it, but it was already too late because Klaus opened the door, and in his panic Kaizen just shoved the entire paper ball into his mouth like a guilty hamster.

Klaus paused dramatically at the entrance with his hand still resting elegantly on the doorknob, his crimson eyes narrowing dangerously as he took in the sight of his roommate standing there looking exactly like a hamster caught stealing vegetables from the garden.

"Human, you are back already from your activities? And why do you look exactly like you just swallowed something you absolutely shouldn’t have swallowed?"

Kaizen just chuckled with the desperate energy of a cornered animal, silently praying and hoping the gods above would suddenly give this demon boy severe ADHD and mild craziness like Leo Crimson possessed, so he would quickly forget this suspicious scene and move on to literally anything else.

But obviously, Klaus wasn’t designed with Leo’s chaotic golden retriever energy. Klaus was designed to be efficient, calculating, and cunning like a chess grandmaster. So he just stood there in the doorway and studied the human with a terrifying calmness that made Kaizen’s skin crawl.

And seeing those red blood eyes training directly on him like laser sights, Kaizen instinctively...
