The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 64: The King’s Sleepless Night
Chapter 64: The King’s Sleepless Night
Primrose found herself sleeping on something strange. The bed wasn’t as soft as usual, and it felt warm, almost too warm.
As she slowly opened her eyes, she realized she wasn’t lying on her bed at all. Instead, her head was resting against Edmund’s chest. His steady heartbeat echoed softly in her ear, rising and falling like a quiet lullaby.
In an instant, her eyes fluttered fully open, and she blinked in disbelief.
How ... how in the name of her great ancestor did she end up sleeping on his body?!
When she lifted her head, she saw something even more shocking. Edmund was still awake, his icy-blue eyes locked onto hers like a predator watching its prey all night.
What time is it?
Before she could fully process the situation, she heard him speak in a hoarse voice. "Morning, wife."
Morning?
Primrose turned her gaze towards the window, and to her shock, the sunlight was already shining so brightly that it briefly blinded her.
Primrose quickly sat up, flustered. "I—I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to—"
She stood up too fast, making her head spin a little. Because of that, she lost her balance and almost fell to the floor.
Luckily, Edmund was faster.
He gently pulled her hand, bringing her back into his arms.
"You did nothing wrong, wife."
Nothing wrong, he said?!
Primrose had been sleeping on top of the King’s body from last night until morning, and even worse, she kept him awake the entire night!
While she was sleeping like a baby, he had to endure the discomfort of lying on the hard sofa, holding her without moving. freewebnσvel.cѳm
He had worked so hard yesterday, yet instead of letting him rest properly, Primrose unknowingly made it worse by using him as her personal bed.
[I couldn’t sleep last night because her sleeping face is too beautiful to ignore.]
Oh ... if he was the one insisting on staying awake, then it wasn’t her fault, right?
"I-I really don’t know how I ended up sleeping like that!" Primrose pulled herself away from Edmund, flustered.
She quickly buried her face in her hands, trying to hide her bright red cheeks that now looked like a freshly picked apple. "I swear it wasn’t on purpose!"
[Why does my wife look even more adorable when she’s flustered like this?]
[Even her messy bed hair makes her look even prettier.]
Is he blind?!
How could anyone think she looked good like this?!
Her wavy hair was the kind that always turned frizzy and messy after sleep.
Primrose couldn’t believe he really thought she looked adorable or beautiful!
Panicking, she tried to smooth down her hair with both hands and quickly pushed it to the side, hoping to hide the mess from Edmund.
"W-Why didn’t you wake me up?" Primrose asked in a small voice, too embarrassed to meet his eyes.
Edmund, who usually needed time to think before speaking, answered right away.
"I just didn’t want to."
What kind of answer is that?!
Primrose immediately turned to him, staring in shock. "Why?! I-I must have been heavy!"
"You’re not heavy at all," Edmund said softly. "If anything... I’ve been worried you’re not eating properly since you got here."
Primrose bit her lower lip, realizing that the mighty Lycan King was probably used to lifting heavy swords and all kinds of other heavy things on the training grounds.
Some people even said he could lift two horses at once without breaking a sweat.
Was that even possible?
But then again, they were talking about Edmund. What seemed impossible for humans might be just another normal day for him.
"I eat well," Primrose mumbled.
She really did.
If someone asked her what she liked most about living in the Noctvaris Kingdom, she would probably say the food.
It was so good that, back in her first life, she often found herself eating every time she got stressed.
Sometimes, she even wondered if maybe she ate too much, and that was why the Lycan King never paid much attention to her.
But her ladies-in-waiting always said that she didn’t look much different from the day she first entered the palace.
Well, maybe she should thank her fast metabolism for that.
"You ... you should really get some sleep now," Primrose said softly after a moment. She stood up from the couch and added, "I don’t want you to get sick because of me."
"This is nothing," Edmund replied calmly. "I once went seven days without sleep and I was fine."
Primrose blinked.
How is he even still alive after living like that?
"But I don’t want you to do that!" she said quickly. "At least ... not when you don’t even have a reason to stay awake."
[My wife is worried about me ... What have I done to deserve her?]
"Then, I’ll sleep after I escort you to your room," Edmund said as he stood up.
Primrose blinked and quickly followed. "I can walk by myself ...," she reminded him softly. "It’s not like something bad will happen just because I walk alone from your study to my bedroom."
"We never know about that, my wife," Edmund replied, his tone unusually serious. "There’s no place in this world that’s truly safe."
[I just don’t want to leave her too soon.]
He had already spent hours watching her sleep peacefully on his chest. Wasn’t that enough to satisfy him for the night?
Whatever, it was still too early to argue with her husband.
Besides, there was nothing wrong with walking his wife back to her room.
As they walked side by side through the hallway, Primrose kept her eyes on the floor, pretending to focus on walking.
But the truth was, she wasn’t paying attention to the path at all.
Instead, she listened closely to Edmund’s steady footsteps beside her, to the soft sound of his coat brushing against the floor, and to the small sighs he let out now and then.
Primrose hated to admit it, but his presence was strangely comforting.
"Your body might be aching from sleeping in an uncomfortable position," Edmund said. "Go back to sleep in your bedroom. I’ll ask the maid to bring breakfast to your room once you wake up."
