The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 165: ’Fun’ Shop (I)
Chapter 165: ’Fun’ Shop (I)
"Should we go back to the inn now?" Edmund asked softly, brushing away the last of Primrose’s tears and gently soothing her as she wiped at her eyes, still sniffling because she’d imagined him with an imaginary mistress.
"Alright," Primrose nodded quietly. "Let’s go back."
The night air had grown colder. Each breath she took felt sting and slightly painful, like the cold was settling into her lungs.
But thankfully, the chill became more bearable once they started walking toward the carriage waiting for them at the end of the street.
Edmund had offered to carry her on his back, but since there were still a few people walking around, Primrose turned him down, saying she’d feel too embarrassed.
[She didn’t seem too embarrassed when she was crying out in public earlier,] Edmund thought with a slight frown, clearly sulking a little.
Primrose almost choked on her own breath because she hadn’t expected her husband to be that petty when he didn’t get what he wanted.
In her defense though, she hadn’t cried because she wanted to, it had just happened!
Besides, no one had actually seen her cry since they were sitting in a quiet, dim spot far from the still-open shops.
"Why does that store look so bright?" Primrose asked, trying to change the subject of their conversation.
She randomly pointed toward something, but ended up unintentionally pointing at the most unholy and infamous store on the street.
’Euphoria’
It wasn’t just any store. It was the infamous adult store in Noctvaris, owned by none other than Lady Mirelle Barberini.
When Primrose had met Mirelle at her tea party, she had invited Primrose to visit her store.
But because Primrose had been busy and, honestly, far too shy to openly walk into a place like that, she never actually went there.
Still, to her surprise, the store looked beautiful from the outside.
Soft red lights glowed warmly from the windows, making the place look stylish and tasteful, not sketchy or vulgar like she’d imagined.
"That one stays open all night, I think," Edmund said casually, glancing at the store.
Primrose snapped her head toward him. How does he know that?!
He thought, [My soldiers talk about it all the time. They say they’ve found all kinds of ’fun’ things in there ... though I haven’t gone by myself.]
They had seen the store when they first arrived on the street, but they’d been too distracted by all the food to really pay it any attention.
Now, though, with most of the other shops closed, the glowing red lights stood out brightly in the darkness, like it was calling them.
"I’m actually kind of curious about that place," Primrose said before she could stop herself. "Do you ... want to check it out before we head back?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she blinked, startled by what she’d just suggested.
Did she really just invite her husband into an adult shop?
She bit her lower lip in panic. He’s definitely going to say no. That was embarrassing. ’What was I thinking?!’
But instead of refusing, Edmund calmly replied, "I do."
Primrose blinked, stunned. "You ... do?"
He nodded, completely serious. "Maybe we’ll find something interesting in there."
Interesting?
What kind of interesting did he mean?!
Her mind immediately ran wild with images of strange items and whispered rumors she’d overheard from noble ladies, things they said could make married life more "exciting."
She’d never thought about trying those things herself, and now here she was, about to walk into that infamous store ... with her husband.
Primrose’s face turned warm with embarrassment. She glanced at him, expecting to see a teasing smirk or a smug grin. But Edmund only looked calm and thoughtful, like they were about to buy groceries.
How is he so composed?!
But since she was the one who had invited Edmund to check it out, Primrose had no choice but to step into the red-lit store with him.
"Welcome—oh, Your Majesty!" said a woman with a familiar face, her smile brightening as soon as she saw Primrose step into the shop.
What kind of unexpected situation was this?!
Why was Mirelle suddenly in Moonshadow? Wasn’t she usually in the capital?
No, more importantly, how did she recognize Primrose so quickly when she hadn’t even lowered her hood?
"Your Majesty! I didn’t expect to see you here!" Mirelle rushed over, grinning like she’d just run into a long-lost sister.
Primrose knew Mirelle was a social butterfly, but she didn’t expect to see her looking this excited to meet again.
She held Primrose’s hands tightly and asked enthusiastically, "What brings you here so late at night? And who’s this? Is he your secret lover?"
Primrose’s eyes widened. She hadn’t expected that word to come out of Mirelle’s mouth.
Edmund was no better, he had already started thinking terrible things in his mind.
[My wife has a secreet lover?! Who—]
Before her husband could get too far with that thought, Primrose cleared her throat and quickly said, "Lady Mirelle, this ... this is my husband."
Mirelle’s smile froze. She didn’t even breathe for a moment, only snapping out of it when Primrose gently nudged her arm. "We’re on vacation in the city," Primrose added.
Mirelle kept glancing back and forth between Primrose and Edmund several times before she gasped. "Your Majesty!" She stepped back and gave a deep bow. "Please forgive my rudeness earlier! I didn’t recognize you because your face was covered!"
Honestly, Primrose didn’t quite understand how Mirelle had recognized her so easily but failed to recognize Edmund, even though they were both wearing hoods.
"And—and don’t worry! Even though your wife is incredibly beautiful, she’s loyal to you!" Mirelle added quickly. "She doesn’t have a secret lover, I promise!"
She scolded herself in her head, [Why does my mouth always run faster than my brain?! What if I just caused a royal divorce?!]
Primrose doubted Edmund would ever divorce her, but ... let’s not tempt fate.
"It’s alright," Edmund said calmly as he lowered his hood, allowing Mirelle to see his face clearly.
[Oh dear Lord! This is the first time I’m speaking to His Majesty directly!] Mirelle thought, nearly losing her composure. [I’m going to tell everyone that I got to talk to the Lycan King!]
Please don’t, Primrose thought with dread.
She was sure Mirelle would brag to everyone about how the Lycan King and Queen visited her adult store in the middle of the night.
"And what about you, Lady Mirelle?" Primrose asked quickly, trying to steer the conversation elsewhere. "What brings you here?"
"Oh, me?" Mirelle beamed. "I just happened to be doing an inspection at my Moonshadow branch. Actually, this is my best-selling location."
"I think it’s because so many couples come here for honeymoons or vacations, and they stop by out of curiosity."
Then, she turned to Primrose again, smiling even wider. "Do you have any preferences in your sex life, Your Majesty? Maybe I can help you out. And don’t worry, since you’re newlyweds, you can take anything from my store for free!"
