Chapter 162: Shopping (II)

"Three?" Edmund tilted his head, raising an eyebrow. "How about five?"

[Honestly, I want to buy every dress she tried on, but I know she’d refuse.]

Primrose hadn’t expected him to be that thoughtful, or to understand her so well.

"Alright, five ..." she said gently, smiling at him. "Thank you, husband."

She wanted to kiss him right there, but the curious stares of the boutique staff made her pause.

Instead, she pressed a soft kiss to her fingertips and gently touched them to his lips.

"I’ll give you the real one later," she whispered with a playful smile.

He took a deep breath, looking like he was trying hard to keep himself from doing something reckless. "I’ll be waiting for it, my wife."

After that, Primrose told the boutique owner which dresses she wanted, and the woman’s eyes immediately lit up when she realized Primrose was buying five at once.

"Don’t worry, young miss! I’ll make sure each dress fits your body perfectly once I adjust them!" she said with confidence.

Primrose simply smiled in response, then headed back to the fitting room with the boutique assistants to change back into her own clothes.

Meanwhile, Edmund had already handled the payment and and gave the shopkeeper their delivery address.

"Oh, so you’re from the capital, sir!" the boutique owner said cheerfully, but her smile froze the moment she read the full address.

The Palace of Noctvaris.

She looked down at the paper, then back at Edmund’s face. Back and forth. Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Y-Your Majesty ... I’m honored to have you here."

Edmund didn’t react. His face remained unreadable as he said, "Don’t tell anyone that my wife and I came to this place."

The boutique owner quickly nodded. "I understand, Your Majesty. My lips are sealed."

When Primrose came out of the changing room, she noticed the boutique owner was acting more polite than before, and her thoughts bouncing around in pure surprise.

[For heaven’s sake, what did I do in a past life to deserve a visit from the king and queen?!] she screamed in her mind.

[I didn’t expect Her Majesty to look so ...]

Primrose braced herself, ready for the usual rude judgments she’d heard before.

[A bit like a small bunny.]

Why did everyone keep comparing her to a bunny?

What kind of bunny had red hair?

[She doesn’t look arrogant at all. I guess those rumors weren’t true after all ...]

Primrose didn’t know who started those rumors, but in her first life, she often saw her name printed in newspapers, described as spoiled, difficult, and snobbish.

Most of those people had never even met her. They just wrote whatever they wanted.

Yes, her father had spoiled her, but he would never have let her be rude.

If she ever disrespected someone, especially someone who hadn’t wronged her, he would’ve scolded her on the spot.

But somehow, people believed she was cruel to her maids and disrespectful to commoners.

In truth, she just rarely talked because she was afraid of saying the wrong thing.

[Whoever started those lies about Her Majesty deserves to be dragged to the gallows!] the boutique owner cursed internally. [A rumor like that could ruin her entire reputation.]

[She’s so gentle with everyone here, even the assistants. And she made all of us feel so comfortable. I won’t forgive anyone who dares speak badly about her again.]

Primrose froze in place, stunned. She hadn’t expected someone to defend her like that, especially someone who had only just met her.

She wasn’t putting on an act. She wasn’t trying to be sweet to gain favor. She was simply being herself.

Maybe the nobles here were so cold and cruel that even the smallest kindness felt rare.

Well, it wasn’t surprising. If the Marquess of Moonshadow could treat his own wife so terribly, it wasn’t hard to imagine how he treated women he didn’t even care about.

"Thank you for shopping at my humble boutique, Your Majesty," the shopkeeper said, offering a respectful bow. "I hope you enjoy your stay in the city."

Primrose returned her smile. "Your dresses are lovely. I truly enjoyed shopping here."

After exchanging a few more polite words, Primrose and Edmund finally left the boutique.

"How long were we inside?" Primrose asked, her eyes widening when she saw how low the sun had sunk in the sky.

"About ... four hours," Edmund replied.

"Four hours?!" she gasped, turning to him in disbelief. "And you weren’t bored waiting that long?"

She always lost track of time when she was dress shopping, but she hadn’t realized she’d taken that long.

Even her closest friends used to groan if she took more than two hours, and yet Edmund hadn’t said a single word of complaint?

"I wasn’t bored," he said simply. "I enjoyed shopping with you."

[It felt so good seeing her smile every time she tried on something new,] he thought. [I didn’t even want to leave the boutique too soon.]

She blinked, then smiled softly. He really was truly such a rare gem.

"Do you want to go somewhere else now?" Edmund asked gently.

Truthfully, Primrose was exhausted. After spending that much time shopping, she just wanted to go back and rest. But if they returned to the inn, it meant she’d have to talk about everything.

The truth.

The poison. Raven’s secret.

Things she still wasn’t ready to confess.

"Let’s just walk a bit more," she said with a gentle smile. "It’s been a while since I’ve had a stroll outside."

Edmund nodded. "Then, let’s walk for a while."

The street was still bustling with people even though the sun had already begun to set.

In fact, it seemed like the city came alive even more as evening approached.

Lanterns began to glow softly, and the air filled with the delicious aroma of freshly cooked street food. Many vendors were just opening their stalls, calling out to passersby with warm smiles and spicy offerings.

Since they hadn’t eaten anything yet, they occasionally stopped to buy food from the vendors.

Primrose was honestly quite surprised when she tasted the food in Moonshadow. It had a much stronger flavor compared to the dishes in the capital, most of it was even spicy.

"I like this one," she said with a small smile after taking a bite of the spiced beef skewer. "It’s been a while since I’ve eaten something spicy."

Back in her homeland, most dishes were filled with spice, so when she had to adjust to palace food, which rarely used chili, it always felt a little bland.

But it seemed like Edmund wasn’t used to spicy food.

"Mhm, this is good," he said, chewing slowly as his face turned a faint shade of red.

Primrose held back a giggle and handed him a small bowl of warm soup. "Here, try this. It’ll help cool your tongue."

"I can handle spice," Edmund replied quickly, as if his pride had taken a hit.

Primrose gave him a knowing smile. "It’s alright. Not everyone grows up eating spicy food, husband. There’s no shame in that."
