Chapter 33: 32. I just knew you would undermine me.
Chapter 33: 32. I just knew you would undermine me.
Capital City, Donghu Residential District.
Tang Shu held a few glass vials as she opened the wooden door to the study.
Having only slept a few hours the entire weekend, her face didn’t show much fatigue, but rather a faint sense of satisfaction.
It was now dusk, and the fiery red sunset shone through the windows into the living room, casting a warm glow.
“Is it that late already?”
Only then did Tang Shu realize she had been in the study for nearly two days.
Touching her empty stomach, she consumed the last few biscuits from the box and, with that modest sustenance, stepped outside holding several stalks of processed Snow Soul Grass.
Half an hour later, she stood in front of a small courtyard at the Medical University’s faculty housing.
The house allotted to Professor Yu was on the first floor, with a small, independent courtyard in front. Perhaps because of Professor Yu’s fondness for medicinal ingredients, the yard was filled mostly with medicinal plants.
Winter Jasmine Herb, Mint, Plantain Herb, and even a few stalks of Small Ginseng were included, all well-cared for by the owner.
Gently pushing open the wooden gate outside, she saw a woman in her sixties watering the plants with a watering can.
“Hello, is this Professor Yu’s home?”
The elderly woman, hearing the voice, turned around with a puzzled look, her gaze lingering on Tang Shu before revealing a kindly smile.
“You must be Tang Shu?”
“I am, but… how do you know?”
The old woman was very pleased and beckoned her in with a wave, “Come in!”
“Old Yu has been talking non-stop about a delicate and pretty young lady he met who’s not only good-looking but whose talent in herbs has even made him embarrassed. It must be you!”
Such a beautiful young lady was not a common sight, even at Medical University, she had not seen many.
As for the name Tang Shu, Professor Yu mentioned it so often that she had remembered it.
Tang Shu felt a sense of kinship with this elderly lady, reminiscent of her own grandmother. By the time she had processed this, she was already being led into the house by the woman.
“Ah? What are these herbs in your hand? I’ve never seen them before.”
The old lady often helped Professor Yu with the medicinal plants and was clearly already quite skilled, she observed the plant in the pot with curiosity.
“This is Snow Soul Grass, found near Yun Province.”
“I’ve heard Old Yu mention it. He said if not for you, such a rare herb would have been ruined. Is this what it looks like?”
Old Madam Yu knocked on the study door and called inside, and the figure of Professor Yu appeared.
However…
The professor’s gaze did not fall on Tang Shu but instead on the Snow Soul Grass in her hands, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
“You’ve come back at the perfect time. I’ve just finished a paper about the characteristics and uses of Snow Soul Grass, come in and take a look.”
Without a second word, Professor Yu “snatched” the pot from Tang Shu’s hands and dashed towards the yard, not forgetting to look back and warn.
“Old woman, don’t you touch these few plants. They’re different from other herbs; they’re poisonous!”
Old Madam Yu was instantly annoyed. “This Old Yu, I’ve called him for half an eternity to come eat, and it turns out he is closer with these plants.”
She turned to look at Tang Shu, her demeanor becoming kind and friendly again.
“Don’t mind him. What time is it, and he’s still reading papers. You haven’t had dinner yet, right? You’ve come just in time.”
Tang Shu wanted to decline, but her growling stomach betrayed her, and after a moment’s hesitation, she agreed.
“Thank you very much, I’ll graciously accept your offer.”
The woman’s eyes brightened, and she looked at her with a hint of admiration.
“No wonder Old Yu likes you so much, you have a way with words.”
Tang Shu: “…?”
The person from ancient times, still adjusting to the present, clearly didn’t catch the old lady’s point of interest at once.

Before long, the three of them sat down at the dining table.
Professor Yu’s daily meals were quite simple: the elderly couple made a stir-fried vegetable dish, and there were also two plates of pickled dishes on the table, one bowl of millet porridge for each person, accompanied by a few white buns.
Simple indeed.
Yet, this meal exuded an enticing aroma.
Tang Shu lifted a spoonful of millet porridge and picked up a piece of the pickled tender cucumber, bright green, salty yet sour, and exceptionally refreshing.
The old lady watched her eat with pleasure and pointed to a black jar in the corner.
“If you like it, I’ll pack some for you to take home later. It’s convenient to eat by yourself or to take to the cafeteria.”
“How could I impose like that?”
The Young Sect Master of the Tang Sect, never wanting for food or clothing and living in extreme luxury, blushed.
As for the talented girl Tang Shu, she had many skills at her disposal, and even outdoor survival was a breeze for her.
However, when it came to cooking, aside from starting a fire to roast some wild rabbits and birds, she was almost completely clueless.
Moreover, with modern appliances like gas stoves and ovens, which she found awkward to use, she had developed the habit of eating ready-made food whenever possible.
Professor Yu, having finished a bowl of millet porridge, spoke up, “What’s there to be embarrassed about? If you agree to become my disciple, I guarantee you three meals a day here during your university years!”
At these words, the wife beside him shot him a sideways glance.
“Xiao Shu, don’t listen to him. You can come over any time after class. That old man has several disciples, and every time they visit, they take away some pickles. It’s no trouble at all.”
“Hmph—always trying to undermine me.”
Tang Shu: “…”
