The Lycan king-Chapter 77
Leonora
I had been in the kitchen for over two hours trying to make Bethany, Jax and I. I had promised Bethany that I would make her favorite food and I also wanted to keep some for Jax, if he was hungry. I had told the kitchen staff to serve him a small portion so that he would get hungry quickly.
I know it was crazy of me but I wanted to do something nice for him but we weren’t exactly talking. After that council meeting, we slept together and that was it. There was nothing special about it. We were both just looking for some sort of release and we found it. Immediately after he gave me this look that made me put my clothes back on and leave his room. I didn’t want to ask him what that look was about. If I had asked, we would have fought again and I was really tired of the fighting.
The door opened but I didn’t turn to see who it was. I was struggling to mash the potatoes in this large bowl.
"That bowl is bigger than your head. You’re struggling with it." I heard Jax say and I turned to him with wide eyes. I didn’t expect him to come down to the kitchen just yet.
"This bowl is the only thing that can fit the potatoes." I said as I turned back to the bowl. Everything felt awkward. I just wanted us to be on the same page. It reminded me of the time when he met me in the kitchen washing dishes. Oh, how time flies. I heard him move around, each step sounding closer than the last until he placed his hand on mine.
"Here, let me help." He said as I let go of the masher. It felt like a thousand words were said with just those four words. It was so funny that one small sentence could easily make a very large difference.
"I’m making dinner for us and Bethany." I blurted out. He turned back to look at me briefly and I could see a small smile threatening to reveal itself. "Once the potatoes are done, I’ll serve the food and everything."
"You sound like a child." He said with a smile on his face. I couldn’t see it but I could hear it in the way he spoke.
"At least, it’s better than us fighting." I commented and I turned to the counter so that I could serve our food. Fighting with him seemed so much easier than reconciling especially knowing that one of us would have to compromise.
"I don’t want to fight with you because of Claire ever again." He said as he dropped the bowl of mashed potatoes by the chicken. "I really want us to clear the air."
"You start." I said, not knowing exactly what I wanted to say. I just knew I wanted us to sort out our situation.
"Tell me what happened from your point of view. I really want to understand where you’re coming from." He said as he walked to the other side of the counter and lifted up the stools. He carried it over to where I stood and placed it on the floor. He sat on one and tapped the other.
I dropped the plate and spoon I was holding, and sat beside him. He quickly took my hands in his. "At first, we were having dinner and you tried talking about the ball and coronation and I didn’t want to. Then you wanted to have sex and I didn’t want to then you left. Then you came back and I tried to ask you where you went to, you didn’t want to answer and you said some hurtful things until you finally admitted it was Claire."
"I didn’t mean anything I said." He rushed out and I pursed my lips.
"It’s fine, you were right. I have a role to play." I answered and he sighed. I wondered what was running through his mind but I didn’t want to ask.
"Claire is my best friend and I didn’t leave you to hang out with her. I came to here to get drinks and after like an hour or two, she showed up and we just talked." He explained and I sighed. I didn’t even know if I should believe him. "It’s my fault that you’re not comfortable with Claire but trust me when I say that she knows how much I like you. That’s all we spoke about. She’s the only person, outside of our relationship, I can talk to. The same way you have Bethany." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"I never really looked at it that way. I’m really sorry for always doubting you and I’ll work on it." I said and he gave me a smile while rubbing my knuckles.
"It doesn’t excuse the fact that I didn’t assure you. I understand that you like when I assure you and I’ll work on that. I’ll make sure to tell you everything." He said and I smiled. I really did love when he assured me.
"And I’ll try not to get mad at you."
"I like it when you get mad at me. It’s very sexy." He joked and I laughed. "Just don’t do it when I’m tired or angry cause-"
"Nora, where is the- Oh." I heard Bethany and we both turned to the door where she stood with wide eyes and a large smile. "Let me just get a plate and I’ll be out." She said as she walked to the counter and hurriedly served herself.
Immediately she walked out of the kitchen, Jax and I bursted out laughing.
"Your friend is really cute." He said and I gave him a look. "Before you say anything, I do not like her. The both of you just behave like children and it’s a bit refreshing."
"So are we friends?" I asked and he frowned at me.
"That’s a very big insult to our relationship."
