The Lycan king-Chapter 50
*Jax*
Claire and I were in the conference room strategizing on the war. I didn’t know when Luke would be planning his attack but I had to be ready. I had to made a plan. My pack was already as secure as it could get. All my warriors were heavily trained for instances like this.
How had Luke been hiding under my nose this whole time? 10 years. 10 fucking years and he shows up right around the time I lose Leonora. 10 fucking years and he warms his way into Leonora’s heart. I hated this.
Fuck!
I hated the way he made me feel. I hated that my own brother was the person I was up against. I hated that I the other man in Leonora’s life was my own brother.
Three months!
Three fucking months she had been with him. Most likely taking care of him, cuddling him, laughing at his jokes, playing with his hair. Things that she was meant to do with me. For three months!
Now he’s claiming her as his Queen. That will never happen over my dead body. Luke had no place here and he never would. Luke had no place with my mate or my throne. I won fair and square. Nobody hated a sore loser.
Winning the throne wasn’t the problem. The problem was what happened after. I could still remember how he changed. The person just thought was my older brother started getting violent. I remembered him pushing me down the stairs with the hope of me snapping my neck. I remembered when he would whisper all the vile things he wished would happen to me before my coronation.
He planned and plotted for my downfall but I had Claire who helped me. I never told her but she knew what was going on so she always stayed by my side. A form of silent solidarity. There was no way Luke would hurt the both of us. She was the one that advised me to banish Luke so that he wouldn’t hurt me. It was then I knew that Claire was the best person to be my right hand man.
The door busted open and a guard came running in, panting. "They’re here. The pack is under an attack." He forced out in between breaths and I froze. We weren’t ready yet. There was still so much that we had to do. I looked over at Claire and her face was blank. We’ve never been unprepared in our life.
"Okay!" I said getting up. "It’s time. It’s earlier than expected but we have to act quick. We need a barrier to block them from getting into the mansion and into the staff quarters. You already know your formations so put them in place. It is a matter of shoot to kill except for Leonora. She’s one of our own. I repeat, make sure you protect her but shoot another person on sight." I ordered and all the guards ran out to prepare themselves.
"What are we going to do now?" Claire asked coming out of her haze. I needed a clear head to think right now.
"Council members, please head over to the bunker now. Claire go with them. I’ll be waiting for my brother. This is between us." I ordered and everyone began to file out except Claire. "Claire, go."
"I can’t leave you here. You know you can’t fight Luke on your own." She folded her arms and adjusted in her seat.
"Claire, you are the next in command. I do not have an heir so the council will appoint you to take over if anything happens to me. Go with them." This was the reason why I wanted to pick Claire over Leonora. For reasons like this. Being a queen or a king was like signing a death note. We were trained never to be scared of death and we should embrace it.
She stood up and looked at me. No words were spoken but her eyes told me everything I needed to hear. She walked closer to me and cupped my cheek, staring into my eyes. She pulled me closer and kissed me. My body froze. She wrapped her arms around my shoulder and I pulled her closer to me. Her lips felt so soft against mine and I almost, almost groaned when she pulled away.
"This is not good bye." She said as she walked away, leaving me stunned. I don’t know why she did that. I was so confused. I don’t even know why I kissed her back. I shook my head. I didn’t have time to think. I walked over to the cabinet by the wall and pulled out my sword and a dagger. I wore my knife belt and stuck the dagger by my side.
Someone stumbled into the conference room and before I could hesitate, I pulled out my dagger and threw it, hitting them right at the chest. The body crumbled to the floor as I walked over to the person. I twisted the knife and pulled it out, placing it back in my belt.
"Good night." I said as he coughed up blood, choking on his own blood making it splatter on my boot. I shook my feet, trying to get the blood off as I walked into the hall way. I headed straight for the hall. It was the most spacious place in this building and if I wanted to fight Luke, I wouldn’t give him the opportunity to use all the books and crannies of the building.
I could hear screams around me and weirdly I suddenly began to sense Leonora. I could smell her even. She must be close by. I prayed she would be able to sense me to and come to find me. I entered into the hall, waiting for Luke. I know he was going to come and find me. That was the reason why he ambushed my pack.
"Well, well, well. If it isn’t my little brother hiding in the hall while his pack is fighting for their lives."
