Chapter 832: Chapter 832: Do You Still Remember Tan Yan? (2)

"I didn’t expect Uncle Jiang to be so heavy-handed. It seems he is truly furious."

Chu Chen put down the phone and said, "Since Ajiu and Li Mochan both said so, let’s do as they suggested. Some things can’t be rushed."

Gu Xinuo nodded, "That’s all we can do."

However, Aqian is not easy to fool, and if we’re not careful, he’ll notice something.

"It’s just as well the headquarters has a lot going on recently. It’s good to call Aqian back." After pondering for a moment, Chu Chen picked up his phone and sent a message.

After sending the message, he took Gu Xinuo by the hand and stood up, "Let’s go, let’s eat first."

Gu Xinuo replied affirmatively and followed him out of the office.

In the early morning, the mist had not yet cleared.

After a beating, Jiang Yisheng lay unconscious for a day before waking up.

His injuries were severe, and he started a high fever at midnight, leaving everyone in the castle extremely busy, especially Veya who stayed by his side all night without sleep.

Even so, there was no sign of Jiang Hai.

Since coming out of the ancestral hall that day, he had been staying in the study, and the meals sent in were returned untouched.

No matter how the old Mrs. Jiang asked, he wouldn’t say a word, which made her deeply anxious.

Worried about Jiang Yisheng’s condition, the old Mrs. Jiang got up early.

When she arrived at his room, Veya was still sitting by the bed.

She glanced at Jiang Yisheng’s pale face, unable to hide her concern, "Veya, how is Asheng?"

Veya stood up, looking much more haggard after two restless days, "The fever has subsided, but the doctor said he still needs to be cautious as there might be a recurrence of a low-grade fever."

Upon hearing this, the old Mrs. Jiang sighed and couldn’t help but say, "Not sure what’s wrong with Ahai, this is his own son, how could he lay such a heavy hand."

Veya lowered her head, Jiang Yisheng’s pale countenance reflected in her eyes, "Ahai must have his reasons."

If there weren’t dire reasons, Jiang Hai wouldn’t hit so hard; she knew him well, hitting Asheng pained him more than it did Asheng.

"Even if he had reasons, he shouldn’t have beaten him like this. Asheng has been getting injured frequently, and as soon as he was on the mend, he was beaten nearly to death," the old Mrs. Jiang said helplessly.

"You should go check on Ahai. I asked him but he wouldn’t say anything. Can you talk to him? It’s not good for the father and son to reach this point of conflict."

You can’t let Asheng wake up and be beaten again.

Veya nodded, "Mom, please look after Asheng here. I’ll go check on Ahai."

The old Mrs. Jiang agreed, "Alright, I’ll take care of things here."

Veya turned and left, shortly after, Mama Ju came in.

She softly called, "Old Madam."

"Have you made contact with Ahan and the others?" the old Mrs. Jiang turned to look at her, keeping her voice low to avoid disturbing Jiang Yisheng. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Mama Ju shook her head, "Not yet, I can’t get through on the phone."

"Ah—"

Another sigh followed.

The old Mrs. Jiang frowned, "If Ahan and the others were here, they might have some ideas."

She was baffled by how things had escalated to the point of using family discipline when the father and son had been getting along just fine two days earlier.

On the other side.

Finding the study, Veya saw the tightly closed door and raised her hand to knock.

"Knock, knock, knock."

"Ahai, it’s me."

After waiting a while, there was no response from inside.

Veya looked helpless. She reached out to turn the door handle.

The door wasn’t locked so she pushed it open and entered.

The window was open, allowing fine strands of golden light to pour in, casting dappled shadows on the floor.

Veya surveyed the surroundings of the study, her gaze resting on the figure at the desk. The man had his head lowered, concealing his expression.

Closing the door, she slowly walked over, rounding the desk to stand beside him.

"Ahai," she called softly.

Jiang Hai’s body twitched slightly as he slowly lifted his head, his eyes red and bloodshot.

In just two days, he appeared even more haggard than Veya.

Seeing this, Veya felt a pang of concern and softened her tone, "Ahai, what on earth happened? Don’t keep it bottled up. We can figure things out together, okay?"

Facing her worried gaze, Jiang Hai’s face showed a rare hint of vulnerability.

"Veya," he croaked hoarsely, "I’m sorry."

Sorry for making her worry these past two days and for scaring her as well.

Veya shook her head, grasping his hand, "We’re a couple, no need to apologize. I know you must have your reasons."

After a moment of silence, Jiang Hai asked in a deep voice, "How is Asheng?"

"The fever has gone down, but he hasn’t woken up yet."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Hai exhaled a sigh of relief.

"Ahai, what exactly happened? Did Asheng do something wrong?" Veya asked, inquiring about the reasons behind it all.

Jiang Hai fell silent again, and after a while, in a hoarse voice, he said, "He didn’t do anything wrong."

Essentially, there was no real fault; rather, it just wasn’t suitable.

Veya looked puzzled, not understanding his meaning.

No mistake?

Jiang Hai stood up, letting go of her hand, and walked slowly to the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Veya, do you remember Tan Yan?"

Tan Yan?

That was his best friend, like a brother, with whom she was familiar because of Jiang Hai.

When he passed away, Jiang Hai struggled to accept it, and she stayed by his side until he gradually recovered from the blow.

Why did he suddenly mention him now?

"When he died, I kept wondering, if I hadn’t supported his decision back then, would things have turned out differently?" Jiang Hai’s brows and eyes were filled with melancholy.

"Ahai, that was a long time ago. Why bring it up now?" Veya asked, standing behind him and not understanding.

Suddenly, Jiang Hai turned around and met her eyes, "I don’t want Asheng to become another Tan Yan."

That was his son, and every blow with the disciplinary ruler pained him more deeply.

Veya’s pupils shrank, her mind went blank, and her ears rang with buzzing.

Another Tan Yan?

Was he implying...

Her legs went weak, and she nearly lost her balance.

Jiang Hai quickly reached out to steady her, "Veya."

"Ahai, it can’t be what I’m thinking, right? It can’t be like that, can it?" Veya clutched his hand, her expression urgent.

Looking into her slightly red eyes, Jiang Hai reluctantly nodded.

Veya’s complexion turned pale instantly, and she collapsed into Jiang Hai’s arms.

It couldn’t be.

How could it be?

Who did he like?

With a trembling voice, she asked, "Ahai, who is it?"

Jiang Hai said nothing, his expression complex.

A flash of light crossed Veya’s mind, and she suddenly thought of someone.

The tears she’d been holding back overflowed, and she could no longer restrain them.

"Ahai, what should we do? What on earth should we do?"

She didn’t want her son to become another Tan Yan; he was her only son. Without him, she couldn’t imagine what she’d do.
