The King's Lover-Chapter 515: Caius’ Support
It was a quick kiss that did nothing to reassure her, but Rose kept her smile in place as she looked up at Caius.
Thinking about it wouldn’t change the situation; she had to trust him, and she did, but it didn’t mean it would immediately stop the queasy feeling in her stomach.
Caius didn’t speak more on the matter, nor did he pester her to have breakfast with him, even though he wanted nothing more than to walk out of here with her—for all to see.
Furthermore, he could clearly see her worry, and he wanted to reassure her, but it would only seem like mere words.
He had to be patient and do the needful; then he could easily demand whatever he wanted, and she would have no excuse then.
Caius lifted a hand and tucked some hair behind her ear. Rose’s strained smile held steady, but he could see the look in her eyes, and he bit back again on saying anything about his plans.
That was for him to figure out and for her to attend, like the bride she was.
Caius was smiling back, unable to help himself. They would be married as soon as it was possible; he didn’t care what was in the way.
"I should leave," he said and pulled his hand away.
Right now, only the guards lined the hallway, and they had seen him enter her room the night before, though Chelsy’s presence might have drawn suspicions, but the guards would keep their mouths sealed.
It was the servants he had to worry about, and with the sun rising, they would soon run amok in the castle. Caius decided it was best to leave through the secret passageway.
As much as he hated the idea, he didn’t want Rose to worry any longer.
Rose nodded. "Right," she replied and clasped her hands together, wondering why she wanted him to stay a little longer.
He leaves every day; why will today be any different?
"How long do you intend to keep yourself hidden?" Caius asked.
"Well, until the wedding," Rose replied.
Caius frowned. He didn’t look happy about this, and Rose wondered if she was doing this so he could speed up the process and get them married as soon as possible, but that wasn’t the only reason.
With Caira’s pregnancy, things were more likely to get difficult for her, and the Queen would have more reason to want her out of the castle.
There was also a very high chance that the princess might work with the Queen. Rose couldn’t put anything past Princess Caira at this point, not after what she had done to Caius.
"If that’s what you decide," he said and started to walk away from her. He picked up his top and hung it over his shoulder.
Rose remained by the door, and Caius smiled at her before turning his back to her and walking towards the wardrobe.
"Have a good day, Your Majesty."
Caius didn’t turn around until he was inside the passageway. All he could think about was how he intended to force her to call him "my husband" once they got married. The thought had him smirking as the wardrobe returned to its place.
Rose’s legs felt heavy as Caius disappeared from view. She didn’t understand why she felt like this. The worst part was already over, but knowing that didn’t make any difference.
She walked forward and threw herself on the bed, hoping that some sleep would do her some good. Caius would most likely return tonight, which meant that, as usual, she would be by herself the whole day.
Rose was a little worried about a few things. The day before, Chelsy and Isla had given her snacks before they left, but today she couldn’t call them; that would draw too much suspicion.
Rose frowned, wondering if she should have thought about this before sending Chelsy away. She groaned out loud and shut her eyes. For now, she would fall asleep and deal with that problem later. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
After things settled and she could easily move around, Rose made a mental note to visit Lady Delphine. They had too much to discuss, and more importantly, she needed to tell them she was married to the King.
Rose couldn’t help the smile that appeared on her lips. She couldn’t believe she would be Queen now. It felt too easy, and that queasy feeling hit her just as strongly again.
She forced herself to sleep; at least that would keep the negative thoughts at bay, and regardless of what the issues were, she was certain she had Caius’s support.
Rose had dozed off a bit. She was unsure how long, but it was long enough for her to start dreaming, when a familiar sound that wasn’t part of her dream broke through, and Rose jolted awake just as Chelsy stepped out of the wardrobe with a tray of food.
"Sorry, Rose," she mumbled. "I didn’t mean to startle you."
Rose moved to a sitting position as she stared at Chelsy with surprise written all over her face, but before she could speak, Isla jumped out from behind her.
"I can’t believe there is a secret passageway here. Is this how the King comes to see you?" Isla asked with a sly look on her face, winking multiple times.
"What are you two doing here?" Rose finally voiced out.
"The King asked us to bring you breakfast," Isla said and stepped forward.
"He did?" Rose asked with surprise. She pushed herself out of the bed.
"Yes." "He also said we aren’t allowed to go through your doors, and if you need anything, we will have to bring it to you this way," Chelsy explained.
"The King is scary," Isla said as soon as Chelsy finished speaking. "I thought I was going to faint."
"Isla!" Chelsy scolded.
"Sorry," she grinned. "His Majesty is great." She added, not wanting to seem disrespectful.
Chelsy shook her head. "We will also help you get ready for the day and take the empty dishes when we leave. Is there anything you need?"
Rose shook her head. She didn’t expect this. Neither did she expect that Caius would think about doing this, but she was glad that she wouldn’t have to starve for the day, and instead of forcing her, he had simply found a way around her wishes.
It really was going to be okay. This was more than enough proof.
