The Innkeeper-Chapter 1477: Stop procrastinating
There was a reason Lex had been putting off going to the resort. He had a quest with a time limit hanging over him, yet repeatedly he pushed back going to the resort. It wasn’t because Lex was averse to the idea, but because his intuition had been warning him to keep a distance from angels.
The warning wasn’t a subtle reminder either, as if letting him know that if he met the angels he’d face another inconvenient quest like the main character from a video game. Rather, this was like common sense telling a mortal not to walk onto the site of an impending nuclear explosion.
Even if he didn’t consciously pay attention to it, the feeling was there, in the back of his mind, subtly nudging him away from it. It was only when he was consciously faced with two decisions, both heavily involving angels, that he finally realized that he had been subconsciously avoiding both of them.
But now that he had acknowledged it, the dam had burst, and Lex was exposed to the full brunt of how severely his instincts were warning him. Truthfully, it wasn’t that strong - right up until he wanted to take action. Then his instincts warned him like he was about to walk into his own death.
Obviously, meeting angels to heal their wings put him in direct contact with angels, so the warning made sense. But as it turned out, so did going to the resort. It made sense, considering that the Seraphim Resort was within a realm that contained angels.
But he couldn’t avoid going to the resort, so the question was, what was so dangerous about just meeting angels? More importantly, what were the Governors intentions giving him this ticket?
Lex didn’t believe that the leader of the Henali, as well as a powerful Dao Lord would be unaware of it if there were something significant happening regarding angels. Lex himself had very limited connections to the powerful forces of the universe, and even he had learned something about it, which meant those with better connections than him surely knew.
What was more important was… why did merely going close to them get him sucked into their mess?
Lex sat and thought about what to do for a while. As much as he wanted to just go and deal with things as they came, he was more mature now. Well, at least Lex was more mature now. By channeling all his shenanigans into Jack, he hardly ever felt the urge to do something ridiculous just for the heck of it.
Since there was danger, he would treat this very seriously. The first thing he had to do was consider all his precautions. His Karma hiding treasure still hadn’t been manufactured, and probably wouldn’t be any time soon either. As it turned out, creating very powerful and potent treasures without cheat-like hacks was not easy.
Of course, he had a feeling that if they really tried they could make it quickly and easily, but that was besides the point.
Besides, when push came to shove, what Lex always relied on was the Midnight Inn anyway.
With his decision made, Lex got up and went to Geeves, who was in the middle of taking measurements for an especially loud Fiery Mammoth who had transformed into a human shape.
"Need to look good for the show off, eh Geeves?" the mammoth said, wearing a large grin. He turned to look at Lex, who had just entered the tailor shop and asked, "Little human, do you gamble?"
Lex was not expecting to meet a friendly Fiery Mammoth, but there was no reason to be mean to him.
"From time to time. Why, you want to place a bet?"
The mammoth roared into abrupt laughter, amused at Lex.
"No, human, no. No, I mention gambling to give you a tip. Today, I will be challenged to a Death Match, which will be aired across the Midnight Inn. If you like to gamble, I suggest you bet on me."
"Oh? You’re anticipating a challenge to a Death Match?" Lex asked, suddenly interested. He hadn’t heard about this.
"Part of the Henali conventions," Geeves chipped in as he measured the mammoth’s bicep. "Settling territorial disputes between Celestial level powers must be held through a series of individual fights if the fight escalates above a certain level. This prevents mass genocide and over all prevents general waste of resources. The rule has prevented a number of star systems from being destroyed in chaotic war."
"How interesting. I didn’t know about that. So who will you be fighting?" Lex asked, looking at the mammoth.
"Some bloke called Batu Togoldor. Doesn’t matter - the humans are going to regret ever getting involved in this war with us."
Lex nodded at the mammoth with a polite smile, though he wasn’t so sure about his future anymore.
Batu Togoldor was the founder of the Togoldor family in the Jotun empire, and was the emperor’s brother. Lex did not think that the man was weak, and found it hard to imagine him losing.
"Do you know if a guy named William will also be participating in a Death Match?" Lex asked, wondering about his own ancestors’ capabilities.
"In two months," the mammoth answered, but the excited beast soon got distracted by his own thoughts, starting a new conversation with Geeves that Lex politely stayed out of.
Soon enough, it was Lex’s turn.
"What can I do for you today? Do you need a suit for a special occasion? Perhaps to meet a lady friend?"
"Geeves stop trying to fish for gossip, you suck at it. Just wait for Velma to come back and scratch everyone’s itch for scandals like usual."
"Easy for you to say, you were with her in Artica. The rest of us had to experience time three times slower here and wait for you lot. Now I hear that she’ll be gone potentially for years! What are we supposed to do? Who will write her segment in the Midnight newsletter?"
"You’ll survive, Geeves, you’ll survive. In the meantime, I need a suit to help me out in a really dangerous situation. Double breasted, body fit, able to survive live artillery fire at the very least."
"Oh, I’ve got just the thing for you," Geeves said, rubbing his hands in excitement. "I just imported a special material that’ll suit your needs and more, but there’s one catch. The suit is going to come out tan colored - won’t be the usual black suit worn by the Inn staff."
Lex raised an eyebrow. A non standard color suit?
"I think I’ll survive. How long will it take?"
"Not long. I just need to take your measurements again. Something tells me your weight has gone up again, and this time we have a special on shoes for our heavier customers."
Lex’s smile dropped from his face, but Geeves didn’t seem to notice.
Ignoring the weight, which was incorrect because the system was broken and barely had a 40% functionality, the measurement went fine and Geeves managed to make the suit in a couple of days. During that time, Lex honed his sword a bit and studied Karma a bit more. He bought a number of more Karma related techniques from the Emporium, but he hadn’t had time to go through them all. Unfortunately, they were not so easy to learn.
Eventually though, everything was set, and Lex ran out of reasons to procrastinate. Lex was too used to listening to his instincts, not going against them, which is why it was quite tough for him - especially when they were so strong.
Lex ripped the coupon and immediately felt a power of some sort lock onto his body, covering him in a protective shield. Now that he thought about it, the keys from the Inn probably did the same, but much faster.

The next moment, Lex teleported, leaving the Midnight Realm behind and being brought into some kind of light show. Outside his protective cover, strange lights flashed, forming objects and strang shapes, but each of them came and went by faster than he could observe them.
The process did not last too long, barely a few minutes, but when it ended, Lex suddenly found himself in a brand new realm.
The weight of the laws of the new realm falling down on him was like a nice, soothing massage. That was not an illusion, for the acclimation process to the new laws of the realm had specifically been designed to be comfortable by the resort!
The stronger gravity did not bother him, and the brightness of the light in his surroundings didn’t bother him either.
Lex fixed his tie as he looked at his surroundings, and found himself standing in front of a large building carved out of a single piece of stone. Above him shone a magnificent yellow star, surrounded by a luminescent ring of some unknown rock.
