The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 57: The Disappearance of the Babble Monster
I picked up a backpack and was so happy that I forgot to feign illness, and ended up being directly ’undone’ on the ground by Qinghan.
"Up ahead is the burial chamber."
"Lord Qi and the others wouldn’t be inside, would they?"
"You wait here while I go take a look."
After Qinghan and I whispered softly to each other, he left me where I was and moved forward alone in the dark.
The night lights ended here, it’s unsure what happened to Lord Qi and the others, whether they didn’t have time or ran out of lights?
Actually, I’ve found it strange since earlier, there are more people with Lord Qi, so they should’ve been slower than us, at least after coming ashore, they should’ve put down their diving gear, right?
Yet they carried backpacks, held guns, didn’t discard the bulky equipment, and didn’t even have time to rest before hurriedly entering the tomb passage.
Why were they rushing like this?
We entered not much later than them, yet didn’t even catch a glimpse of them, indicating how hastily they moved.
Once in the burial chamber, they didn’t even light up lamps, forcing Qinghan to move ahead in the dark.
It’s supposed to be a case of the predecessors plant trees and the successors enjoy the shade, and yet they abandoned things halfway!
"Roar—Roar—" A beast-like howl shatters the silence all around.
The sound is muffled as if it’s coming through a door, Qinghan quickly walks back with a grave expression.
"It’s resurrected." Qinghan grabs me and hurriedly runs down the next tomb passage.
"What has resurrected?" I ask while running alongside him.
"When the previous archaeological team excavated this tomb, they killed a monster, but its body fell into an undismantlable trap, so they could only leave it there."
"So maybe they didn’t kill it, or it wasn’t completely dead."
"Either way, it’s extremely sensitive to the scent of the living, and it’ll drive it into a frenzy, the burial chamber’s door probably won’t hold."
Indeed, the sound of banging matches Chen Qinghan’s words, as with each hit the beast makes on the door, the passage shook three times.
With that kind of force, an ordinary door wouldn’t hold.
The ground of the second tomb passage has no traps, Qinghan says the walls on the sides of the original tomb passage were filled with acid, which the archaeological team later extracted.
"There’s a person." I spot things in the dark as usual, always able to first notice things on the edges and corners.
Ahead of us, five meters away, there’s a person facing the wall, Qinghan draws his treasure sword, slowly approaching the person.
He touches the person’s arm, a loud bang sounds, and the person falls straight backward, their face is completely missing, and their brain matter is gone.
"It’s out, run!" Despite not being frightened, Chen Qinghan grabs me and continues running deeper into the tomb passage.
Behind us, a sound resembling a rhino charging echoes, given the tremor from its hooves hitting the ground, you can tell its size isn’t small.
"Strange, didn’t Lord Qi and the others stop by the burial chamber on their way?"
"They must’ve headed directly to the main tomb chamber."
"How do you kill this thing? Is there a trick?"
"Use—" Chen Qinghan doesn’t finish his sentence as the tomb passage suddenly shakes, and then a metal door falls from above us.
This happened in an instant, leaving us no time to react; once the door hits the ground, I see sharp blades beneath it, slicing my backpack into two.
It’s both a door and a guillotine; if we had moved slower, it would’ve turned into an execution device.
Now separated by it, Chen Qinghan is in front, I’m behind, he forcibly pats the door panel, asking if I’ve been injured.
"No, just the backpack got ruined." I removed the slashed backpack, everything inside divided into two, what a waste.
"Go back to the first tomb passage, randomly activate a trap, even if you fall, you have a chance to survive; go, hurry back!"
"Er..." Too late...
As I turned, I found the passage now contained a beast, shaped like an adult grizzly bear, but its skin resembled that of a rhino.
A head reminiscent of a Tyrannosaurus, eyes glowing green, and a row of tusks, this mishmash beast slowly paced towards me on its sturdy legs.
It ran like thunderous storms but walked silently, I locked my gaze tightly on it while rummaging through the damaged backpack for a weapon, but there was none.
"Little Fu? Little Fu?" Maybe Qinghan didn’t hear my departure, and upon finding it odd, he raised his voice calling me twice.
Focused on watching the beast, I had no leisure to answer him. Actually, I don’t believe this thing can kill me unless its teeth are more fierce than a machine gun.
I’m concerned it might collapse the tomb passage, which would put Chen Qinghan in danger.
Why are the living so fragile... it’s so frustrating~
"You go, the passage could collapse, I’m alright, you can come back to dig me out once safe, anytime, if you don’t, your children or grandchildren can!" I trust there are other exits in this tomb, don’t ask me why, it’s just intuition.
"I—" Qinghan says something I can’t hear, having fixated on the beast for too long, my head starts spinning again.
A desolate snowfield, chaotic snowflakes fly, a beast caught in a net struggles and howls but to no avail.
Ultimately, it succumbed in despair, lying still in the net with closed eyes, but as I neared, it suddenly opens its eyes, bringing the net crashing towards me.
A hit from it surely wouldn’t kill me, yet I seem unwilling to let it succeed, reaching out my hand...
"Ouch—" I clasp my head, crying out from pain.
Clang clang clang!
The clash of metal brings me to senses, raising my head again, the beast has gone, leaving Qinghan to swing his treasure sword against the door on the other side.
"Gods, that’s a rare treasure sword, not a kitchen knife; a nick on it is more valuable than this door!"
"Little Fu, are you okay?"
"I’m fine, the monster ran away, let’s find a mechanism to open the door instead."
"Ha ha, you’re fine, but he’s not." A voice from within the door not belonging to Qinghan echoes.
I think, damn, perhaps the commotion here drew Lord Qi and his group back.
"Hey, hey? Don’t kill him, I know the tomb owner’s secret!" I pat the door panel, blurting out false tales.
"Heh, what’s the tomb owner’s secret got to do with us?"
"Yes, very much so, it’s about... the secret of resurrection!" Thinking of Qinghan mentioning the monster dying once, I’m sure resurrection intrigues tomb robbers.
"Then say it now, or I’ll kill him."
"I can’t say now, I must see the tomb owner’s coffin, there are writings on it; you have to let me see the text so I can decipher the Resurrection Curse. If you don’t trust me, ask him, the monster in the burial chamber died once and is now alive, surely related to the Resurrection Curse."
Who says watching movies and novels are useless; the secret name rolls off my tongue, anyway, the coffin does have texts, like ghost talismans, probably Lord Qi and his crew don’t recognize them either.
"Did you come here for this?"
"Yes, we have insider information from the archaeological team, knowing there’s no gold or silver in the tomb, only an unopened chamber, we thought to give it a try."
"Do you understand that text?"
"Yes, I’m the only one who does worldwide."
"Alright, if you dare to trick me, neither of you will walk away alive!"
