The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 344 - 282: Tragedy (Part 3)
I climbed out of the well with Qinghan on my back and returned to the main hall; Nanduo had already come to her senses.
"This person is my colleague. What did you do to her? Is there any hope for her?" I had no intention of putting down Qinghan. I was ready to walk away if Nanduo said there was no hope for the goddess.
It had been a thousand years, and Nanduo looked much older than before. Although not as exaggerated as having Three Heads and Six Arms, she looked like a middle-aged woman in her forties, no longer in her early twenties.
"Her? It’s no use. You can take her away." Nanduo waved dismissively, tossing the goddess who had been holding her hand over to me.
As I was already carrying Qinghan, I couldn’t free my hands to catch her, so I had to stretch out my leg to block her, preventing her pretty face from smashing against the ground.
"You’re not leaving?" I asked.
"As you said, the world outside has changed, and there’s no place for my kind anymore. Besides, taking him out would be even more dangerous." As Nanduo spoke, she cast a loving glance at the creature on the stone platform.
Love truly blinds and dulls. Since she still loved the man who had turned into a monster and was even willing to stay in the tomb as a living dead for him, that was her choice and freedom.
"Lord An..."
Just as I turned, Nanduo suddenly called out to me. She walked back to the stone platform, gently placing her palm on the severed arm of the Three Heads and Six Arms. Her tender and affectionate demeanor made shivers that were unusual for me creep over my skin.
I didn’t despise her lover, I just found the romance overly cheesy.
"Indeed, the world has changed, and you have changed. I don’t know who leaked the information, but Jiya was the one responsible for destroying it back then."
"Alright, I understand. Thank you."
Because of my thanks, Nanduo glanced at me again and smiled bitterly. I noticed she was aging rapidly. Just moments ago, she looked about forty, but now her hair was fully gray.
"You..."
"You all should leave. Some things are destined to end in tragedy. No matter how hard you try, it just delays the end a little bit."
I swallowed my words of persuasion and carried one while dragging another out of the main hall.
Perhaps a thousand years ago, Nanduo didn’t know that immortality would take such a form. She simply hoped to sleep alongside her beloved.
Waking up just days ago, she discovered her lover had turned into a monster. It’s impossible to say she wasn’t disappointed.
I didn’t know what she did with the goddess, but at least on the surface, she didn’t appear harmed.
The previous group must have met the tomb owner and were so terrified they hid in an adjacent chamber, even barricading the door.
Only Qinghan and the goddess had the courage to face the tomb owner directly. However, without clear answers or a victorious fight, Qinghan simply jumped into the well to sleep.
Qinghan listened to my speculation and added a few points: the tomb owner and Nanduo had awakened before they entered the tomb. After entering, they were mistaken as tomb raiders and hunted down.
The goddess didn’t heed Qinghan’s advice and refused to hide with the others. She insisted on pursuing the tomb owner, which resulted in her getting subdued and carried unconscious into the main hall.
Qinghan had followed her. Seeing that the tomb owner had no intention of killing the goddess and the stone platform and surroundings were clean, Qinghan felt assured enough to jump into the well.
"You’re really fearless. Even if it wasn’t for a sacrifice, she might’ve been transformed instead, becoming another Three Heads and Six Arms."
"What else could I do, become one with her? I refused."
Qinghan’s words left me speechless. Had he not jumped into the well, he might have faced two outcomes: die with the goddess or transform with her.
"Now she hasn’t transformed, but you have. Got wings? I’m waiting to see a giant moth."
"Don’t joke around; we’re in the middle of a breakup."
"Hey! I’m the one being broken up with, alright? Everyone sympathizes with me. Ha ha, you heartbreaker."
"True, but I’ve given it deep thought, had a sudden revelation. This ordeal has shown me true love, so I’ve decided against breaking up."
"Please—after all this time, just end the rumors, let’s maintain our broken relationship."
"We’re not broken."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Reconciliation is better."
"Pfft! I won’t go back to the past."
"I’ll run in front of you so it’s grass in front of you."
"Your grass can grow legs and run?"
"Why not? At least, I’ve seen grass that could."
I bared my teeth, realizing I couldn’t out-talk him. But seeing him alive and well, without a care in the world, made me genuinely happy, and bickering felt joyous too.
For a moment, I thought, let him say whatever he wishes. What could be more important than being alive and well? I couldn’t help but think of Nanduo and her Three Heads and Six Arms.
"Alright. As long as you live to a hundred, I’ll be your scandalous girlfriend for a century. Isn’t that enough? Am I loyal or what?"
"That’s enough, truly loyal."
