The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 17: Living People Are So Complicated
Boss Lu is a woman, and from her voice, she doesn’t seem much older than Qinghan.
In the tomb raiding business, certain unspoken rules have evolved with the times.
For example, age—century ago, a young girl could never lead a tomb raiding team as the ’commander’.
Now, as long as you have money, you can basically do it.
With the support of family influence, you have nothing to fear.
Useless like Miss Scream, if it weren’t for her father’s funding of this ’expedition’, she wouldn’t qualify to join. Otherwise, she would be a burden, destined to be cut loose.
Of course, she has remained safe so far because her teammates are reliable, always taking her along when danger arises.
She thought her safety was due to her father’s and money’s power, but it was largely due to her luck.
Unaware of her fortune, Miss Scream is awake, shouting with Boss Lu inside.
Some habits die hard; a pampered girl used to having her way hasn’t learned that under low eaves, one must bow.
And so, she received two resounding slaps, letting out earth-shattering screams, like a clueless child who only knows to express anger and grievance, without understanding patience.
Miss Scream thought Boss Lu was her father’s employee, but in fact, Boss Lu is merely using the Cheng family’s resources.
Now that Boss Lu has found the treasure vault, all disguises are unnecessary.
Living people are so complicated...
I feel a bit of a headache, possibly from overstrain.
Boss Lu also mentioned that she isn’t the only one leveraging the Cheng family; the Qin Family also planted an undercover in the team.
This undercover killed the person Old Sir Cheng sent to monitor them. Once discovered by Boss Lu, he ran away.
Upon hearing this, I thought, isn’t this person the ’scum’? And the monitor sent by Old Sir Cheng surely was the one stabbed in the back.
While the sandpiper and the clam quarreled, Boss Lu benefited, and now it seems Qinghan and the others are the fourth force in the team.
Even though they saved Miss Scream, they have no allegiance to her, and Qinghan treats her quite indifferently.
Initially, Boss Lu just abandoned them, without taking more direct means to make them disappear. I thought she intended them to live or die on their own in the tomb, but now it seems there’s more to it.
"Professor Chen, please excuse my caution. I must know if you have the capability to make it this far," I heard Boss Lu say in an odd tone.
Thinking back, I realized her tone is quite like a dubbed film voice actor.
"This great discovery, oh my god, it’s enough to change the world, can you imagine? It represents power and wealth, immeasurable wealth. Hahaha..."
Boss Lu was very excited, and I was curious about what exactly she found in the treasure vault to make her so ecstatic. Or was she just drunk?
"You bitch, my dad paid to hire you here. This thing belongs to our Cheng family, don’t you dare try to take it!" Miss Scream cried out.
"Boss Lu, since you know its value, you should know it can’t possibly fall into one person’s hands."
Qinghan’s tone showed no trace of panic. If his calmness was an act, then his acting skills are incredible. If it wasn’t an act, why is he so confident?
"I know who you’re working for, but Professor Chen, many priceless treasures lie in private collectors’ safes."
"This item isn’t an antique; it can’t be held by an individual." Qinghan’s tone turned stern.
I felt their discussion was about to break down, so I quickly summoned the snakes hiding in the corners, telling them someone was trying to take the treasure from the vault.
The snake group immediately gathered, afraid of something on the guards, but this didn’t stop them from blocking the door.
The sheer number of snakes was enough to attract attention. When two guards saw the snakes approaching, one quickly ran inside to report.
Once the guard left outside was alone, I lunged at him, running through all my intimidating tactics in my head before sticking out my tongue and shaking his throat vigorously.
Many tomb robbers died in the tomb, but none by my hands, only one died of fright from me.
So I’m not sure if this trick worked. I just shook the guard’s neck forcefully.
He held a submachine gun, shooting wildly, but I pressed one leg on his arm, keeping the gun barrel down, only killing a few big snakes.
As to who started it all, I jumped back to the stone wall, fanning the flames among the snake group, ’Look, not only are these people stealing treasures, but they’re killing the innocent. A man could endure, but the snakes can’t.’
The snake group finally erupted in rage, charging forward without fear.
The guard escaped inside, and with a "bang," I heard the sound of something heavy blocking the door as the snake group recoiled off the barrier.
I jumped off the stone wall to see, and they had blocked the door with a metal sheet.
No wonder people always say technology changes fate; this heavy metal sheet was something that tomb robbers never used to bring down here.
The tomb hole is only so big; any equipment brought down can’t be large. Besides, carrying something this heavy wasn’t convenient.
But Boss Lu’s crew somehow managed to bring it down, and at the tomb, it turned into a solid and thick door.
No matter how the snake group hit it, it didn’t budge, and worse, it was soundproof—I couldn’t hear anything from inside.
Just when I was at a loss, a small opening appeared on the metal door, scaring me into quickly jumping aside.
From a hole not even big enough for a snakehead, a metal ball was shot out, followed by a second and third, landing in various places among the snake group.
I sensed something was wrong and climbed back up the stone wall, where the metal balls emitted flashing blue lights, indicating they were electrified.
What happened next shocked me completely; over thousands of years, I’d never seen such a scene.
The small balls didn’t explode or move—they just lay silently among the snakes.
But the snake group acted like poured into hot oil, writhing, showing their soft white bellies, twisting and rolling as if drunk.
Yet I knew they weren’t high at all but rather in extreme pain, pain from a sound so unbearable that it made life worse than death.
I jumped into the snake group and stomped those three little metal balls to pieces, freeing them from their agony.
’Scatter and find a place to hide,’ I told the nearly-paralyzed snakes. There was no pet hospital in the tomb, and knowing they couldn’t outmatch Boss Lu, why let them continue to die?
The snake group moaned and groaned but retreated into the surrounding darkness, refusing to go far.
It seemed the responsibility to guard the treasure had become their instinct.
