The Hero of Hypnosis-Chapter 382: Sunspot City
"We’re here, Sunspot City. This place looks amazing. We should totally get a house here." Kai was floating above the city, looking down at the place with admiration.
The structure, architect, and feeling Sunspot gave off were similar to Dunross but on a larger scale. It was obvious that this place was the largest and most important city in the east because of how busy it was.
However, with all good things, there must be something bad. Guards were extorting money out of their money in broad daylight. Soldiers dragged women into alleys to have their way with them. Workers were forced to slave away or risk losing everything they had. And although the city felt comfy, the place was also filled with miserable people.
"This is horrible. No one should live in such a state!" The scenes they all just witnessed reminded Nadya of her slave days, and she did not like that one bit. She wasn’t prone to anger, but this was really grinding her gears.
"Don’t worry, we’re here to end the suffering of these people and liberate them." Kai tried to reassure her, rubbing her arm and kissing her forehead.
The others were slightly jealous, but they didn’t say anything.
"So, are we going to quietly infiltrate the city?" Sasha asked.
Kai smirked and started rubbing his hands together like a madman. "I have a better idea."
---
"Stop right there and state your business!" Two guards shouted, pointing spears at Kai and his group.
"Ahh, isn’t this just nostalgic? Getting stopped by city gate guards?"
"Kai, you need serious help." Gwen should have known Kai would do something like this, but it slipped her mind, and now, here they are.
"Excuse me, my good sirs. My family and I are looking for refuge in the city. Those blasted resistance people blew up our home in Lower Sagebrook!" Kai put on an act to deter the guards from looking at them suspiciously.
"Ahh, you’re from Lower Sagebrook, huh? Tough luck, man. We got a lot of refugees from there." The first guard looked at the seven of them with pity.
"My father was from Lower Sagebrook. I hope he died." The second guard muttered under his breath.
’That guy must have daddy issues.’
"So, uhh, where’s your luggage?" The guard asked
"Really?" Kai put on his best offended expression. "Our home was destroyed, and you’re asking where our luggage is?"
"Ohh, right. I’m so sorry. I-I don’t do well when it comes to tragedy. Umm, you’re free to enter the city. Just don’t cause any trouble. You could end up homeless....fuck, I’m sorry. Have a nice day, sir."
The guard opened the gate and allowed the seven of them to enter.
"I can’t believe that worked." Kyana looked behind to see if there was some sort of trap laid out for them, but that wasn’t the case at all.
"Sometimes, you just have to do things by the book. Such as starting from the bottom to make your way to the top! Like adventuring or doing mercenary work!"
"Kai," Gwen rested her arm on his shoulder. "Let it go."
"Synergy."
"Never mind."
---
All around the city of Sunspot, the resistance made their way to designated spots to enact their grand plan. The group that was sent to this city broke off into smaller teams.
Two teams would be responsible for taking out the four guard towers located in each corner of the city. The third team would be responsible for bombing the soldier barracks, and he final team would be responsible for securing the road that leads to Western Astalith.
"Listen up, people, this is your captain speaking. Is everyone in position?"
"Team one is ready to go."
"Team two is ready to go."
"We need a little more time to...okay, team three is ready to go."
"Good. We will start when team three completes their task. Start the mission!"
Team three stealthily infiltrated the barracks, powerful soldiers sleeping, drinking, or playing games, not paying attention to the people who infiltrated their barracks.
Each member of Team Three placed an orb of chi inside the walls, moving to higher floors to do the same thing.
They quickly placed chi orbs on the walls of every floor before reaching the last one.
"This is the commander’s quarters." One of the resistance members whispered. "We need to be quick and quiet."
The others nodded and placed chi orbs on the wall.
"What do you insects think you’re doing?" The commander asked, sitting upright on his bed with a morningstar in his hands.
The resistance instantly attacked, one wrapping astral hands around the commander while another struck him with a destructive bolt of lightning.
"Do you think that—"
"No," The commander cut them off. "You did not get me." He smashed his head into the person who struck him with lightning, crushing his skull in an instant.
"F-Fuck! Team three, reporting. We were found. Resorting to plan B!"
The captain of the team quickly picked up his chi communicator to respond. "This is your captain! Retreat! Retreat now! Do you hear me? Retr—"
A massive explosion cut off his words. When he looked to see where it took place, he closed his eyes. The barracks were destroyed, so his men were dead.
"Dammit!"
"Captain, we can’t let their sacrifices be in vain."
The captain nodded. "All teams, move out!"
---
"What the fuck was that?" Kai was simply walking down the street when he saw a loud explosion go off.
"The resistance most likely." Kyana assumed.
"They’re not playing around one bit, huh?"
"Can you blame them? Their home was taken over by a tyrant who is also working with demons. They’re doing what they can to survive and reclaim their home." Sasha found that very admirable.
"Yeah, I know. Wanna go check it out?"
"Sure."
Just then, two more explosions went off, destroying two of four lookout towers.
"They’re really not playing around." Kai chuckled.
"Let’s split up. We could help the resistance if they need it."
Everyone agreed and took off in different directions, some of them going together.
