Chapter 381: This relic is pretty disappointing...for us at least

"This is the place, right?" Kyana looked around to see if they were in the right spot, but then she remembered that they didn’t even know where the relic was.

"Hold on. Kai, do you know where the relic is?"

"Uhh."

Everyone turned to him with disappointed faces.

"Hey, look, this isn’t just on me, okay? All of us agreed to do this, so you should have asked as well!"

They couldn’t deny Kai’s point, but still, as the one who usually handled these things, they expected him to already know where the place was.

"Can’t you read minds?" Amaya remembered Kai having that ability.

"Yeah, but I don’t do that all the time. It’s honestly pretty annoying poking into a person’s mind. It’s...cluttered."

Sasha didn’t quite understand what he meant. "Cluttered? Like people think too much?"

"No, even when people don’t ’think’, their subconscious is always active. I simply mean that it’s tedious to peek into someone’s mind because I can see the beginning up until their current lives, plus the things they have ever thought about, in the past, present, and even things that they will think about. It’s a lot."

"Ohh, yeah, that does sound tedious." Gwen nodded.

"But it’s fine because I can navigate their minds easily and get the information that I want," Kai said with a smile on his face.

"So, where are we going to start...digging?" Nadya asked

"Probably where the relic is." Karumi said with pride, thinking she was helpful.

"Thanks, Karumi! That wasn’t helpful in the slightest!" Kyana started scanning the area with her senses to see if she would be able to find it that way.

The others joined in as well, searching in different areas.

Kai flew into the sky and looked around with his X-ray vision. He searched deep underground for anything that looked weird, valuable, or divine since relics were usually blessed by a god.

"Huh, that looks interesting." Kai saw a golden cup inside the ground. It was just sitting there, untouched, which was obvious since the place hadn’t been excavated yet, and he didn’t even see anything guarding it.

"There better not be a fucking trial or something." Kai pulled it out of the ground with his power, and the relic flew into his hands.

It was a large golden chalice with gemstones decorating the relic to make it look fancier. Kai looked inside, and there was nothing in it.

"Hmm? How does this work? Hey, guys, I found it!"

His girls gathered around him and examined the fancy cup with him.

"A golden cup? That’s the relic?" Gwen was honestly disappointed and expected something more...deadly.

"I think it looks cool. It reminds me of a chalice I had in my tribe." Amaya grabbed the cup and acted like she was drinking something from it.

"This is the most beautiful cup I’ve ever seen! I can tell that it was crafted by dwarves! Just look at how much care was put into this! It’s amazing!" Sasha, for the first time, wasn’t gushing about selling the fancy item and instead complimented its craftsmanship.

"Are we supposed to drink from this or something? I’m confused here." Kyana was scrambling her brain, trying to figure out how to work this relic.

"It’s clearly some sort of magical item. I mean, can you all feel the energy coming from it?" Nadya didn’t even understand how they could hold the chalice because of how much mana it was radiating.

Karumi’s ears perked up as she realized what it was. "Oh. This is a goblet of—"

"Fire?" Kai interrupted Karumi.

"N-No. I was going to say that it’s a goblet of empowerment. You channel your power into it, and then make a prayer to whoever the goblet belongs to, my guess is the goddess of this land, and she will fill it up with water that, when drunk, makes you stronger temporarily. We have something like this in the spirit world."

"Huh, you know, that makes a lot of sense." Kai grabbed the chalice back and channeled his power into it.

"Make me stronger, Rauna!"

Nothing happened.

"Guess it’s broken." Kai tossed it away.

Karumi caught the cup with one of her tails. "No, it’s not broken, it’s just that you’re too strong for the chalice to work."

Kai didn’t think that was the case. "Why is that?"

"Because you’re a demigod."

"Oh, okay, maybe that does make sense. Amaya, you try."

"Okay!" She grabbed the chalice and copied Kai. "Make me stronger, Goddess Rauna!"

Nothing happened.

"Gwen, you try." Amaya tossed the cup to Gwen.

She attempted it as well, and again, nothing happened. This went on for a bit as they passed it on to each other, and none of them were able to get it to work.

"Maybe it doesn’t like us." Kai theorized.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck the ground, and a young woman with brown skin stepped out of the smoke.

"No, it’s not that the chalice doesn’t work; it’s just that you all are way stronger than normal, so you don’t need the power boost."

Kai was confused about who the woman was until he saw the resemblance. "Rauna? Ha, nice to see you. But what are you doing here?"

"I simply came to tell you this information because it looked as if you were struggling to find out how to work the chalice. Besides, it was getting annoying hearing you call out to me. Give this chalice to my people; they will know how to work it."

And just like that, she disappeared into golden mist.

"Well, that was highly disappointing. Whatever, let’s get it back to the resistance. Are we going to Novahelm or Sunspot first?" Kai asked everyone.

Gwen, Amaya, and Karumi wanted to go to Novahelm because they would be fighting there. Sasha, Kyana, and Nadya wanted to go to Sunspot because they thought the mission there was cooler.

"You’re the tie breaker, baby. What’s your choice?" Gwen asked

"Okay, check this out." Kai summoned a coin. "This side is heads, and this side is tails. Whichever side it lands on, we’ll go there."

Kyana stopped him before flicking the coin. "Which city represents what side?"

"Oh yeah. Sunspot for heads, Novahelm for tails. Alright, time to flip!" Kai clicked the coin into the air, grabbed it as it came down, the placed it on the back of his hand.

"HEADS IS THE WINNER! OFF TO SUNSPOT WE GO!"
