The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 293 Did Megan really disappear?
The giant rock at the cave entrance was finally moved aside, and blinding sunlight poured in, stinging their eyes.
Karl squinted, spotting the familiar figure. "Sir?"
"Master!" Luna jumped up. "Master, seriously?! You locked me and Karl in here? What were you thinking?!"
Mr. Ford chuckled, completely unbothered. "Aren’t I here to get you out now?"
Karl’s face turned grim. "I’ve always respected you, but this... this really let me down. Tristan might not make it."
"You’re free to go save him now," Mr. Ford said as he stroked his graying beard, then added with a chuckle, "It was Nathan Reid who tricked me. You don’t think I’m allowed to be mad?"
"This is really the reason?" Karl raised a brow, not buying it.
"Of course," Mr. Ford replied casually, turning his gaze to Luna. "Take care of her on your way down. She’s my only daughter."
"Your daughter?" Karl was clearly shocked.
Luna looked just as stunned. "Hold up—you, this old guy, you’re actually my real dad? What kinda dad turns his own kid into a sorcery worm experiment?!"
Mr. Ford let out a long sigh. "I did it for you. You were born with a cursed poison in you. I had to search everywhere for a cure before I ended up researching these worms myself."
"And what about my mom? Ever since I can remember, there’s never been a woman on this mountain!" Luna blinked.
A shadow passed over Mr. Ford’s face. "She passed away when you were two."
Luna started sobbing. "That’s so tragic... I never even got to see my mom."
"Alright, enough crying. You and Karl should rest tonight. You’ll head out in the morning." With his hands clasped behind his back, Mr. Ford turned and walked calmly out of the cave.
Karl watched his departing figure, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
He had gone through all that trouble to trap them here, only to suddenly let them go? Something felt really off. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Back in their room, Karl glanced at the phone on the table.
He picked it up—no missed calls showing.
Could it mean Tristan was okay?
He quickly dialed Tristan’s number. It rang three times before connecting.
"Karl?"
"Samuel?" Karl’s gut tightened. "Where’s Tristan?"
"He’s unconscious. And Megan’s missing too."
Karl’s breath caught. "He’s in a coma and Megan vanished? When did this happen?"
"Noon today. Her phone’s off, GPS is jammed, car tracker’s disabled, and all the traffic cams just... gone. We tried calling you, but couldn’t reach."Karl clenched his fists, jaw muscles so tight you could practically see the tension shaping his face. "Got it. I’ll go remove the sorcery worm from Tristan tomorrow."
Samuel sighed, clearly frustrated. "You know Megan was the one who blocked the signal. She didn’t want any of us tracking her. And let’s be real, even if you tried cracking it, you probably wouldn’t get anywhere. She’s that good—if she doesn’t want to be found, nobody can. And she’s pregnant too."
His tone carried a heavy weight, and Karl didn’t have it in him to offer any comforting response—he felt the same way.
Megan, where the hell are you?
After hanging up, Karl dropped into his chair like someone had knocked the wind out of him. His chest felt painfully tight, like a boulder had pressed down on it.
Luna crouched next to him, looking up with her big, clear eyes. "Karl, did Megan really disappear?"
His eyes landed on her innocent face as he gently touched her cheek. "Yeah, she’s gone."
Her lashes fluttered as she blinked. "If you’re feeling so down, then Luna’s not happy either. Isn’t there any way to find her?"
Karl shook his head. "If Megan doesn’t want to be found, then we’ve got no shot."
"She’s pregnant though, with the baby and all... what do we do?" Luna mumbled, clearly worried.
Karl let out a deep, tired sigh. "First, we stabilize Tristan. Then we go looking for her."
That night, sleep completely escaped Karl. He laid there, staring as the pitch-black sky slowly faded to a dull blue, then finally turned soft gold as dawn broke through the curtain cracks.
Luna’s leg ended up draped over his, her tiny hand smacking his cheek. "Karl, I want fried chicken..."
Karl couldn’t help but laugh quietly. This girl—always thinking with her stomach.
Turning to face her full cheeks, he reached out and pinched them a couple times.
She winced and groaned, blinking awake only to find Karl was the culprit. She frowned at him, annoyed. "You’re such a meanie. Hmph! I don’t like you anymore!"
"Oh yeah?"
She nodded seriously.
Karl narrowed his eyes, rolling onto his back. "That’s great to hear. There are tons of gorgeous women down the mountain."
Luna shot up, eyes wide. "What? Even prettier than me?"
"Prettier face, better figure too..."
The sound of sniffles followed, and Karl chuckled quietly to himself. He knew this little foodie was gonna be hurt.
He cleared his throat. "Beg me, and maybe I won’t go look at them..."
Turning back, he caught Luna drooling—literally.
He twitched at the corner of his mouth. Was food the only thing in this girl’s brain?
