The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 152 Diane Passed Away
Brandon pulled Tristan into a firm hug.
With a light chuckle, he said, "That’s my sister."
Tristan pushed him away and wrapped an arm around Megan. "And she’s my wife."
Brandon shook his head. "Man, your possessiveness is on another level."
Megan looked up at Tristan—it was hard not to see he was acting like a jealous kid. She glanced over at Bernard. "Grandpa, it’s me, Megan. I came to see you."
Bernard tried to sit up, and Megan rushed over, helping him lean back against the headboard. His hair was silver, eyes welling with tears as he grasped her hand. "Megan, I’m so sorry..."
"You remember me?"
Brandon, hands shoved in his pockets, said calmly, "I injected him with the treatment. It’s working. His memory’s going to improve little by little. Once the toxins are gone, we can move ahead with surgery."
Megan held tight to the old man’s hand. "Grandpa, I read your journal. I might not have grown up in the Lewis family, but I still always felt loved. So, please, don’t blame yourself."
Brandon’s expression hardened—he seemed to finally get that Bernard had a hand in what happened years ago.
Megan might have forgiven him, but that didn’t mean the Lewis family was just gonna let it go.
"So, the baby swap back then... you had a role in it?"
Brandon’s voice was icy.
Megan turned to him. "Brandon, I’ll explain everything. I’ve already forgiven Grandpa. I hope you all can, too."
His lips pressed into a tight line. "Megan, do you have any idea how Mom’s been all these years? Her health’s been getting worse, all because she missed you too much..."
Megan reached out and held his hand. "I’ll make it up to Mom and Dad. Trust me, I will."
That cut through all of Brandon’s anger. He said nothing more and walked over to the medical cart, started organizing the instruments.
Megan brought over a bowl of warm water and gently cleaned Bernard’s face. "Grandpa, just focus on getting better. As soon as you’re ready for the surgery, we’ll schedule it..."
Suddenly, her phone buzzed. She pulled it out and answered, "Chloe..."
Instantly, color drained from her face, and her hand went limp, letting the phone fall from her grasp.
Whatever Chloe said made her head ring. Tristan was talking beside her, but it was all background noise.
After a moment, she forced on a weak smile and looked at Bernard. "Grandpa, something came up. I need to step out for a bit. I’ll come see you again soon."
She grabbed the phone from the bed and rushed out of the room. Brandon quickly followed. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Megan, what happened?"
Covering her face with both hands, her voice cracked, "Mom... Mom died in a car accident."
Brandon’s brows furrowed. He knew exactly which "Mom" she meant—it was Diane. The news hit like a brick.
Her eyes glistened with tears. "Brandon, please help me watch after Grandpa. I need to take care of this."
He nodded seriously, then looked over at Tristan. "Tristan, take care of her."
Tristan nodded slightly, gripping Megan’s hand as they quickly left.
When they got to the hospital, a white sheet covered the body on the stretcher in the ER. Chloe was down on her knees, crying uncontrollably beside the body. Behind her, Kevin clenched his fists, head dropped.
Megan walked over, hands trembling as she lifted the sheet. The distorted face underneath still carried traces of familiarity. The stench of blood hit her hard.
Her chest tightened, and tears rushed out uncontrollably. Her voice broke. "Mom..."
