The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 118 The Mysterious Cloud Robinson
The next morning, same place, same time.
Dressed as Landon Haynes, Megan was picked up by Arthur and headed straight for the landmark—the Imperial Capital Building.
When the car pulled up in front of the convention center, Arthur stepped out, opened the door for Megan with a respectful nod.
She wore a navy-blue suit that didn’t quite bulk her up like a man’s frame would, but her delicate features still caught the attention of a few women passing by.
Megan and Arthur walked one after the other down the red carpet and into the building, eyes forward, completely ignoring their surroundings.
Since Landon had only made a public appearance yesterday and was otherwise low-key, no one from the business world recognized the face—except for a few curious glances from women.
The bidding was taking place on the twelfth floor, inside one of the meeting halls of the Imperial Capital Building.
They reached the scenic elevator, and Megan, with her hands in her pockets, calmly waited for the doors to open.
A tall figure stepped up beside her. The familiar cool bamboo scent in the air made her heartbeat skip.
She turned stiffly and looked up—he, in return, lowered his gaze to meet hers.
Just one look and she forgot to breathe, but quickly got ahold of herself.
With a composed smile, she extended her hand and said, "Mr. Reid, I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m Landon Haynes from NexusStar."
Tristan, unreadable as always, smiled briefly and gave a firm handshake. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Haynes."
Yet, the hand he took felt soft—almost like a woman’s.
He eyed the refined face in front of him and thought, A bit too delicate. Didn’t his girl rave about how charming this Haynes guy was? She’d definitely be disappointed.
Still, this type of soft-featured face did seem pretty popular with women these days.
With that thought, his expression darkened just a bit.
He withdrew his hand. "Looks like you’re here to win it all today, Mr. Haynes."
Megan gave a polite nod. "You flatter me, Mr. Reid. If you’re joining the competition, the rest of us might as well pack up and go. But I’m curious, what brings you here today?"
The elevator dinged open just then. They stepped aside, waiting for the crowd to exit before entering.
Tristan gave a light chuckle. "Mostly to finally meet the business prodigy himself. Hopefully NexusStar and the Reid Group will have a chance to work together."
Megan knew he wasn’t serious—he never teamed up with anyone. He just wanted a look at Landon Haynes in person.
Just before the doors shut, a hand extended into the gap, stopping the doors long enough for someone else to step in.
That hand belonged to a man who promptly moved behind another suited guy.
The man who entered lifted his head, and his face shifted the mood in the elevator—his sharp gaze like icy steel when it landed on Tristan and Megan.
He took a step forward, followed closely by his assistant. With a slight turn, he now faced the elevator doors, exuding an aura of arrogant pride.
Megan stared at the back of his head and noticed a slight lift in the skin around his ears.
Her heart tensed. The mask she wore was made of synthetic skin—was he also wearing one?
Almost without thinking, she touched the edge of her own ear.
"Something wrong, Mr. Haynes?" Tristan raised an eyebrow.
Turning to him, Megan smirked. "Nothing really. Just feeling I’m nowhere near as handsome as you are. Bit of a confidence blow."
Tristan wasn’t expecting that compliment. A little stunned, he smiled lightly. This guy might know how to talk smooth, no wonder women liked him.
"You’re being too modest, Mr. Haynes."
Up front, the other man lowered his head—and oddly enough, also adjusted his ear.
Megan’s suspicion deepened. Something was definitely off with him.
The elevator stopped at the twelfth floor. One by one, they filed out.
At the door to the meeting room, the assistant handed over an invitation.
"Mr. Robinson, this way please."
So this was Cloud Robinson, head of the Robinson Group, recently allied with the Bennette and Channing families.Arthur and Cameron each handed over their invitations, and the reception staff, after glancing at them, couldn’t help but sneak a look at Megan.
So this is Landon—the business prodigy everyone’s been talking about. Looks like catching up to Tristan’s pace might actually be within reach.
Inside the lavishly decorated conference hall, rows of long tables were arranged neatly, with more prominent figures seated closer to the front.
The moment Tristan walked in, all eyes turned to him. A bunch of high-level players made their way over, flooding him with greetings.
Not everyone here was aiming for the bid. For many, this was prime networking territory. Chatting up someone more influential could mean serious resources down the road.
With such heavyweight attendees, each invitation was basically a golden ticket.
The brief stir made the man already seated in the front row turn his head casually.
Sharp-featured with a high nose bridge, his posture was relaxed. When he saw Tristan and Landon walking over, the corners of his mouth curled into a subtle smile.
Oliver stood up gracefully, heading down the aisle to greet them.
Megan instinctively slowed her pace a little, giving Oliver some breathing room to avoid the awkward "who to shake hands with first" moment.
After all, Tristan was her man. If Oliver went for her handshake first, it’d kind of undercut Tristan’s presence.
Noticing the person beside him slowing down, Tristan raised an eyebrow. Well, this short stack’s surprisingly tactful.
As they drew closer, Oliver extended his hand to Tristan. "Glad you made it, Tristan."
He then looked back. "You two already know each other, yeah?"
Megan stepped forward with a smile. "Mr. Reid’s charisma and elegance really make him stand out. Even in a room full of suits, he shines the brightest."
Hearing Megan’s colorful praise, Oliver chuckled. "Takes one to know one—Landon’s got the makings of a top player himself."
Tristan quietly withdrew his hand, giving a subtle smirk. "Oliver, are you just complimenting yourself through him now?"
The trio exchanged pleasantries and then settled into the front row seats.
Soon after, the first row on the left side filled up with folks from the Bennette, Channing, and Robinson groups.
Within five minutes, the place was packed.
Officials from the Imperial City government and Land Resources Bureau took their seats on the host side, ready to kick things off.
Land Resources Bureau Director: "Ladies and gentlemen, good morning! Thank you for joining today’s bidding event for state-owned land-use rights. This will be a live auction. Please listen carefully as I go over the bidding rules.
One: Please maintain order during the bidding process. Two: Any collusion, price-fixing, or obstruction will result in immediate removal. Three: We’ll use an incremental bidding format, with a reserve price of 1 billion. Bids must go up in increments of at least one million. Four: If multiple people bid the same price, the first to raise their paddle wins. Five: When the highest bid is in, others will be allowed three more chances to offer. If no one raises after the third call, the highest bidder will win. That wraps up the rules. Let’s begin."
"1.2 billion."
"1.3 billion." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"1.5 billion."
...
Cloud Robinson raised his paddle. "2 billion."
Oliver: "2.5 billion."
"2.6 billion."
...
Bennette Family patriarch, Jameson Bennette: "3 billion."
Oliver: "3.5 billion."
Hearing that number, quite a few mid-tier firms instantly gave up.
Channing Family head, Isaac Channing: "4 billion."
Oliver glanced at Landon, who gave a slight nod.
He smiled and raised his paddle. "4.5 billion."
