The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 141: You’re Too Foul
Vera Xavier cried, "Cara, if anything happens to you, what am I going to do?!"
Meanwhile, Shane Caldwell and a few other male students had surrounded Wesley Kane. Daisy Archer had thought that with Rona Langdon’s assent and Cara Preston’s cooperation, taking Vera Xavier away would be a simple matter. She never imagined it would blow up into such a huge scene.
She rushed out to play peacemaker. "A misunderstanding, it’s all a misunderstanding! We’re not human traffickers, we’re Vera Xavier’s in-laws!"
Few people believed her, so Daisy Archer had no choice but to add, "Vera Xavier, say something!"
From Daisy Archer’s tone, Shane Caldwell and the others could tell she knew Vera Xavier. They seemed to be acquaintances. However, their behavior just now had been terrifying. He stood protectively by Vera’s side. "Vera, don’t be afraid," he said. "If they’re bad people, we absolutely will not let them take you."
Vera truly hadn’t expected this. ’Shane Caldwell, the guy who always seems to be at odds with me, is actually speaking up for me at a time like this?’
She looked at Daisy Archer and said, "I’m not married. What in-laws are you talking about?"
Daisy Archer smirked maliciously, unleashing her usual shrewish nature. "Vera Xavier, how can you lie through your teeth like that? What do you mean you’re not married? You clearly married our Wesley that day!" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
She then added indignantly, "After you married Wesley, you said you couldn’t bear to leave your family and wanted to stay at your parents’ home for a while. We’re not unreasonable people. We figured you’re still young, so it’s normal to be a bit willful. But then you went home and just refused to come back to us! Aren’t you just making a mockery of us?"
She had a loud voice. She’d been up all last night planning for this confrontation, thinking up all sorts of strategies. As a result, her speech now sounded plausible and forceful.
Wesley Kane immediately chimed in, "Exactly! Vera Xavier, how could you do this? How could you deceive the Kane family like this!"
Shane Caldwell immediately started putting the pieces together. Thanks to Cara Preston, the news that Vera Xavier had taken a leave of absence to get married had spread throughout their entire class. They had also vaguely heard her husband’s family name was Kane.
He had assumed her return to school meant the whole affair was resolved, but apparently, that wasn’t the case.
He turned to look at Vera and asked, "Is that really true?"
Vera ignored him. Instead, she stared at Daisy Archer and said, "Archer, aren’t you afraid of divine retribution for spouting such nonsense? Yes, my mother did accept your family’s betrothal gift, but I never, ever agreed to marry Wesley Kane. As for what happened, you know perfectly well."
"What do I know?" Daisy Archer went into full-on shrew mode, her voice rising to a shriek. "Everyone at Number One High knows how outstanding my Wesley is! His willingness to marry you was a sign of his high regard for you, yet you went back on your word! Vera Xavier, how could you do such a thing!"
Shane Caldwell froze when he heard Wesley Kane’s name. Wesley was, in a sense, a celebrity at Number One High. While he was known for his good grades, he was even more famous for the endless stream of gossip surrounding him. He’d been ambiguously entangled with several girls at school, and there were even rumors about abortions.
He’d always wondered which Kane family Vera had married into. He never imagined it was Wesley Kane—the man known as the biggest scumbag in the history of Crestfall!
