The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 114 Mr. Haynes, We’ve Got Tails
Megan took a sip of her tea, then casually said, "To be honest, I didn’t plan on bidding for that land at first."
Oliver paused mid-sip, eyes lifting toward the effortlessly poised man across from him. "Then why partner with the Lewis Group?"
Placing her teacup down gently, Megan smiled. "Because I admire you, Mr. Lewis. That’s my reason."
Seeing Oliver first look surprised, then intrigued, Megan went on, "The Reid and Lewis families are the top two powerhouses in the country—way ahead of Bennette and Channing. The Reid family stepped back from the Wanlong site deal to maintain good terms with you guys. But now, out of nowhere, this Robinson Group jumps in, clearly siding with Bennette and Channing to suppress Lewis Group. Knowing you, you’d never ask Reid for help. And let’s be honest, Reid wouldn’t outright offer either. You’re not the type who needs charity. Everyone needs a few like-minded partners in life. So working with you not only helps secure this project, but also shows where I stand."
Oliver’s lips curled into a faint grin. "Mr. Haynes, you really see things clearly. I’ve heard the person behind NexusStar is sharp and tough—seeing you today, I get it. But... do you know much about Cloud Robinson?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Megan shook her head. "That company’s only been around for a year. Registered capital’s close to ten billion. Diverse portfolio. On paper, they’re on par with us. But Cloud Robinson’s info is basically nonexistent."
Oliver chuckled. "What, another Landon Haynes?"
"You’re funny," Megan smirked. "Talents like me are one in a million. No way someone like me pops up that fast."
Oliver’s grin froze for a second—he hadn’t expected her confidence to shoot off the charts like that.
Even Shane, standing nearby, was taken aback by how unapologetically full of herself she was.
Arthur peeked at their expressions and sighed internally. Get used to it. Megan’s been living off her ego for years.
Oliver coughed lightly and smoothed over the moment. "Of course, there’s no second Landon Haynes. People like you are rare."
He shifted the topic, "The auction’s tomorrow. We have people in the Land Bureau. The starting bid’s ten billion. What’s your budget?"
Megan lightly tapped her fingers on the couch armrest, thinking. "This land’s prime stuff. We can’t let it go. So, I’m all in."
Oliver could tell he wasn’t bluffing. Someone that young with guts like that—he had to admire it. He grinned, "Then I’ll be right there with you."
Megan glanced at her watch. Time to go.
She stood, adjusted her cufflinks. "Won’t stay longer. See you tomorrow, Mr. Lewis."
Oliver offered, "Join me for lunch?"
Megan smiled calmly. "Need to do a bit more homework—figure out what they’re willing to pay. Let’s celebrate after we win. No need to send me off."
With that, she strode out of the lounge.
Arthur packed the documents into his bag and followed behind her.
Oliver and Shane walked them to the executive elevator. The doors closed and they finally turned around.
Shane lowered his voice, "He’s too young and way too full of himself. Are you sure you trust him, Mr. Lewis?"Oliver gave a short laugh. "Arrogance usually comes with some real clout. Everything sorted for Angus’s family?"
Shane nodded. "Angus’s been buried at JS Cemetery. We’ve already handed over the compensation to his mom. As for that guy in the cap, still no leads—it’s like he vanished into thin air. The police locked down the explosion scene in the woods, but we still got some intel. The building’s basement had, well... human remains. Limbs chopped off and stuffed in containers. A lot of them."
Oliver’s brows furrowed slightly. He muttered, "This isn’t just some random act. Keep someone tailing Amelia. Whoever’s behind this probably ties back to her."
Just then, the private elevator chimed open. Megan strode out with her usual cool confidence.
The receptionist was already waiting beside the doors. "Mr. Haynes, can I add you on WhatsApp?"
Megan raised a brow. Was she getting hit on?
With a faint smirk, she replied, "I’ve always treated women like besties."
The receptionist stood there stunned as Megan and Arthur walked off. That line... had layers. She mouthed the words again and again, and long after they disappeared from sight, it clicked.
Her lips trembled slightly as if she’d just uncovered some huge scoop.
Was the rumor actually true? The head of NexusStar might be gay?
Megan and Arthur got into the car, merging into traffic toward Meridian University.
"Mr. Haynes, we’ve got tails," Arthur said, glancing in the rearview mirror.
Megan responded calmly, "Take the next right, then left."
Arthur cut lanes quickly, making a sharp right. But the modified Land Rover in their mirror didn’t flinch, staying tight on their tail no matter what.
Megan grabbed the laptop from the seat beside her and began typing rapidly.
She tried hacking into the satellite tracking system to remotely disable the SUV behind them, only to find it had no GPS installed.
Her sharp eyes narrowed—so they’d planned for this. Smart move.
Not long after, two more Land Rovers swerved in from side roads, boxing them in on both sides. The one behind still clung close.
"They’ve surrounded us," Arthur said, tense.
Megan’s gut told her it was people from Bennette, Channing or Robinson group. More precisely, they were here for Landon Haynes.
A car window rolled down. A masked guy raised a rocket launcher and aimed it right at them.
Megan’s tongue pressed against her molars as she growled through clenched teeth, "Drive!"
The launched rocket scraped the back of their car, causing a loud jolt. The blast cracked their bulletproof windows due to sheer impact.
"You mess with me, you get the claws, not the purrs," she snapped.
Arthur winced hearing that come out of her mouth. Sounded pretty weird when it came from a guy’s voice.
She reached beneath the seat and pulled out a Bullpup rocket launcher from a hidden compartment. Propping it on her shoulder, she turned toward the SUV that had fired first.
"Stay outta my way and I stay outta yours. Come at me, and you get what’s coming."
The fired missile whooshed through the air and struck dead-on. The explosion was loud enough to shake the road.
The other SUVs got caught in the blast zone, too.
Clearly not expecting Megan to be armed, the attackers froze for a beat before snapping back to the chase.
But Megan knew that another missile could easily injure innocent bystanders, so she switched to her German HKP7 handgun. She steadied her aim—right at the SUV’s fuel tank.
