The Heavenly Dao System-Chapter 111: Alchemy Rank
"Where have you been?" At the stadium’s highest platform, Lin Loi asked in concern.
Her tone was respectful and held traces of reverence. It was similar to the behavior prior to Ye Ming altering their memories, but there was still a difference.
There was no fear in Lin Loi’s eyes or some robotic programmed-like behavior.
"Ah, I went to join the crowd in the line and see what they were talking about." Ye Ming calmly said and sat down.
From the side, Jia Xing had cleverly brought him some snacks and drinks to choose from.
"Were there any interesting things?" Lin Loi inquired. She naturally didn’t care about the conversation from those who were lining up, but she wanted to take this chance to interact further with Ye Ming.
After all, the chance to interact with a mysterious expert was not easy to come by.
"There was." Ye Ming said.
"Was?" She was taken aback by the word. Why was it in past tense and not present tense?
"Yeah, I was originally interested in the scalpers’ action, but then I got rudely interrupted by someone who called me a scumbag."
"Who is it?"
Lin Loi’s eyes narrowed, and a trace of killing intent could be seen. In any case, Ye Ming had helped her tremendously by granting her the unknown qi.
Such a great favor had already proven difficult for her to repay. Even though Ye Ming claimed he only wanted to see her spar with her Junior Sister, she knew it was far from enough. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
So for someone to disrespect him, Lin Loi was naturally infuriated.
Seeing her expression, Ye Ming simply waved his hand.
"Forget it, just some retarded girl who couldn’t think." He said.
Upon hearing that, Lin Loi’s body flinched slightly. After all, she had a feeling that Ye Ming was also subtly hinting that she was once the retarded girl as well.
Nodding, Lin Loi dropped the matter.
’If it was really someone who displeased him, then he would have made a move. There’s no need for me to intervene.’ With that thought in mind, followed by the fact that she could ask the city guards later on, she no longer pursued the matter.
Instead, she began to explain the competition to him.
"For this competition, alchemists must be at least in the 5th rank to participate."
"5th rank huh? They probably won’t pass the first round then."
"Senior’s test in the first round is probably difficult for many to pass."
"Hmm, then why don’t we increase the requirement?"
Lin Loi flashed a bittersweet smile. Alchemists being at the 5th rank and above were rare. In fact, any 5th-rank alchemist would be granted many privileges and respect from families, clans, and sects.
The reason for the 5th-rank alchemist requirement was for people to take notice of them and recruit them.
This was also why many sought tickets to enter the stadium. As long as they get a chance to interact and see the potential alchemists, there will be a window of opportunity for them to recruit.
"Hmm, that’s a valid procedure." Ye Ming stroked his chin and understood the logic.
"Yes, and it’s going to be a mass elimination anyway to weed out the weak." Lin Loi said.
Her memories might have been altered, but the alteration still made sure she understood the flame that Ye Ming’s control was immensely profound.
"Well, given that it’s over 100 alchemists. It’s best to eliminate the weaklings early." Ye Ming yawned. He was not interested in wasting time seeing crappy alchemists spend days just for their furnace to explode in the end.
"By the way Senior, do you have any plans on making more tests?"
"Oh, you want me to make more?"
"Yes, I’m sure the Elders in charge wouldn’t have any problems with it."
The Elders she referred to were those at the 8th rank, just one rank off from the highest rank in their world’s ranking.
The Mortal World’s alchemist ranks were relatively simple. It ranged from 1st rank to 9th rank, with 9 being the highest.
Naturally, there was also the bullshit saying of early stages, mid-stages, late stages, and peak stages in the rank, but Ye Ming ignored them entirely.
If you were a rank 1 alchemist, then just say you’re a rank 1 alchemist.
Don’t give him the bullshit of "I’m peak stage of rank 1 or I’m late stage of rank 1".
At the end of the day, it was still a rank 1, so they should just shut up.
A few minutes later, Ye Ming ultimately agreed to construct the test.
"Alright, to prevent any form of corruption or bias. I shall create all the tests." Having read and written many cliche scenarios, the most common ones were those from the higher-ups rigging the test to make things harder for the protagonist.
Now Ye Ming didn’t know if there were any of those so-called protagonists or hot shots in the world, but he would definitely make sure there would be no plot armor or cheat usages.
Sometime later, nearly every seat in the stadium was filled to the max. And at this moment, the Elders in charge of the alchemy competition were informed of a sudden change from Jia Xing.
"What did you just say?" One Elder raised an eyebrow and asked again.
Knowing that it was hard to believe, Jia Xing remained calm and explained, "The City Lord has decided to give the full authority to Senior Dao to be in charge of the competition. The Elders can just sit back and enjoy the competition without needing to worry."
"This is preposterous!" Another Elder suddenly exclaimed. "Alchemy is not some run-in-the-mill profession. Even if that Senior Dao is profound in his cultivation, he can’t just blaspheme alchemy like this."
"Elder Jing is right."
"Yeah, alchemy required patience and years of research."
Jia Xing exhaled softly when she noticed the Elders weren’t taking the information lightly. It made sense though. They were all 8th-rank alchemists and respected in many places.
Song Jing was especially respected because she was the closest to reaching the 9th rank. Song Jing hailed from the Song Clan and the clan was allied with many Holy Sects.
"Elder Jing, the City Lord expected that not many would take it well." Jia Xing smiled lightly and said, "So she invited the respected Elders to go to the higher platform and discuss it with Senior Dao."
"Very well," Song Jing narrowed her eyes and readily agreed to the arrangement.
