The Heaven-Cursed Costs Life, But I Have Infinite Life-Chapter 44: Battle with a Stage 6 Elite, Defeating Evander
Theron’s expression stayed calm as a few Forbidden Spells screamed toward him. He didn’t dodge or flinch. Instead, he gripped his long staff tightly and slammed it hard into the ground.
Vwoosh!
A deep hum filled the air. A faint yellowish shield of earth magic flickered around him, then swallowed his body as the Forbidden Spells struck.
Boom... Boom...
Flames roared, the wind howled, and powerful elemental energy surged.
But when the blast faded, Theron stood right where he was, completely unharmed.
"Kid, stop this useless fight. Just give up, and I’ll promise you’re safe."
He lifted his long staff slightly but didn’t rush to attack.
Allen frowned hard. He’d underestimated how scary Stage 6 elites really were. This guy’s defense must be way stronger than normal Stage 6 fighters.
"I want to see what you’ve got!"
Allen gritted his teeth, grabbed Saber, and charged straight in.
"Sigh." Theron sighed, looking a bit tired. He raised his staff and swung it down with easy grace—like moving a feather, yet packing massive power.
Bonk!
Allen flew backward again, hit hard by the blow.
"Kid, against real strength, all your tricks don’t matter," Theron said calmly. In one step, he was already right in front of Allen.
Too late!
Allen felt a sudden, crushing danger and held Saber up to block.
Boom!
A terrifying force hit him. Before he even landed, he was sent flying again.
Before Allen could recover, Theron appeared exactly where he’d landed. He raised his staff and struck again, no fancy moves—just pure power. Allen flew off like a punching bag.
"Damn it!"
Allen was shocked and furious. Blood surged through his body, and in front of this old man, he felt helpless, just being bullied.
The gap between a Stage 5 Ascetic and a Stage 6 Ascetic was simply too huge.
"Old man, let’s see what else you’ve got! Heaven’s Punishment: Tempest Slash!"
Allen roared, his anger fueling a surge of wind elements around him. Countless sharp cold glints flashed in the air.
"Hmm?" Theron frowned slightly. Just as he swung his staff down, Allen’s body vanished in a ghostly blur.
Instantly, Allen was engulfed by thousands of slicing blade energies.
"Interesting." Theron didn’t dare to be overconfident. Since any skill The Heaven-Cursed used was a Forbidden Spell, he slammed his staff into the ground again. A faint yellowish shield of light surrounded him.
Clang... Clang...
The edge of the blade slashed against the light barrier, echoing with a crisp clatter of collisions. Flashes of brilliance erupted with every impact, yet the barrier held firm, effortlessly deflecting the assault.
"Kid, did you discover this skill on your own? It must be even more powerful than the intermediate Wind skill, Wind Cloak," Theron said, unable to track Allen’s movements. He was surprised, but his excitement grew.
This kid’s talent was far greater than he imagined. Allen was only at Stage 2 cultivation, yet he had managed to defeat a Stage 5 powerhouse without breaking a sweat and had already mastered such a powerful skill.
Theron was growing more and more fond of him. If he could recruit this kid as his disciple, he would finally have someone worthy of inheriting and spreading his lifelong knowledge.
Clang... Clang...
Countless cold glints flashed endlessly, showing no sign of stopping.
Theron frowned, surprised. "You’re using a skill that deals continuous damage?"
Allen didn’t respond. All that could be heard was the howling of endless blade energies as they kept hammering away at Theron.
Watching from a distance, a few onlookers looked stunned.
"It seems Theron can’t handle this kid after all," Evander said calmly.
"Mr. Evander, is this kid really that strong?" Lucian asked, his face cold and twisted with resentment. He couldn’t believe anyone among their peers was stronger than him.
Evander explained, "It’s not that he’s stronger. His skills are just too tricky. Theron can’t interrupt his attack combo."
"Sir, please step in," Lucian said respectfully, his voice filled with unease.
"Not in a rush," Evander said, hands folded behind his back, watching the battle unfold calmly.
Theron had already given up fighting back. He sat cross-legged on the ground, his long staff held horizontally in front of him. A faint yellowish shield surrounded him, deflecting the endless blade energies. Clang, clang, clang! The sharp sound of impact echoed as the attacks washed over him.
"Kid, you can’t hurt me. Keep this up, and you’ll die."
Theron sighed. He couldn’t track Allen’s movements, just as Allen’s attacks couldn’t break through his defense.
But Allen was a member of The Heaven-Cursed. Every time he cast a skill, he paid with his own lifespan. If this dragged on, Allen would be in real danger of death.
"Old man, are you giving up already? I don’t believe that shield can hold out much longer. As long as you don’t die, I can keep using this forever!"
Allen’s voice echoed through the swirling wind. He noticed the shield was fading slightly; Theron couldn’t last much longer.
Allen still had three hundred years of life left, and Heaven’s Punishment: Tempest Slash could last for ten hours. Once that shield broke, the old man was dead.
"Sigh."
Theron lost his patience. He looked over at Evander nearby and said, "Stop watching and come control this kid now."
"Easy enough."
Evander stepped forward. A staff appeared in his hand, which he raised high. Powerful Divine Light surged around him, illuminating his thin, withered body. He looked both holy and terrifying.
"Hmm?" Allen felt a sudden, intense danger and slowed his attacks.
"Holy Radiance!" Evander’s cold voice rang out. He waved his staff, and a sky full of glowing light shot down in pillars, covering nearly a hundred-meter radius.
It was an area-of-effect skill. Both Allen and Theron were caught in it.
Boom!
Allen, who had been hiding his position, was hit square on. The holy light pierced his shoulder, leaving a bloody, gaping wound.
His Heaven’s Punishment: Tempest Slash was instantly broken.
Theron acted immediately. Swinging his staff wildly, he blasted Allen backward with a powerful strike.
But this time, his true intention wasn’t to hurt him—it was to save him.
Countless rays of holy light flashed through the air. If Allen got hit while inside them, he wouldn’t die, but he’d surely lose half his life anyway.
"Kid, are you still going to fight?"
Theron vanished and reappeared instantly before Allen, pressing his long staff against Allen’s forehead. A faint, amused smile played on his lips.
He was growing more and more satisfied with Allen. He was even willing to offend the Church of Light just to protect him.
"Cruelty against the weak, bullying the few with the many. You’ve yet to change your despicable ways!"
At that moment, a calm voice echoed from afar. A flash of cold light flew through the air in a split second, striking Theron’s staff.
Boom!
The force made Theron stumble backward several steps. A long spear slammed into the ground right in front of Allen, quivering slightly.
Allen’s eyes lit up. It was Lucas. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
They had finally arrived. It was worth all the time Allen had spent holding them off.
Noticing the dark shadow in the sky, Allen immediately shouted, "Lilia, over here! Your Lord City, stick with that old turtle for now! I’ll handle Evander!"
Theron’s defense was too crazy; Allen’s Forbidden Spells couldn’t even threaten him.
But Evander was different. He was a mage class. Although his damage was terrifying, his defense was weak. With Lilia and Allen working together, they should be able to take him down.
"Kid, who are you calling a turtle?" Theron frowned slightly. Just as he was about to strike, a wild gale howled. A dark shadow loomed overhead, and Allen was immediately swept up into the sky.
"Allen, be careful! I can’t block that old guy’s attacks," Lilia warned.
Her face was still pale; her injuries from the last fight hadn’t fully healed yet.
"Don’t worry! That old man can’t handle my attacks either!" Allen said confidently. In a flash, he fired off several fireballs and dozens of wind blades, raining down on Evander below.
"Hmph, you’re overestimating yourself!"
Evander’s gaze turned dark. He raised his staff, and holy light flickered, condensing into a glowing shield.
Boom... Boom...
The explosions continued. Although Evander managed to block Allen’s Forbidden Spell attacks, the glowing shield before him dimmed significantly and cracked.
If one more hit landed, he definitely wouldn’t be able to stop it.
"This kid is too tricky. Let me help you," Theron said.
"Theron, come out and let me try your moves!" Lucas called out, summoning his spear back into his hand, then lunged straight at Theron.
He knew he couldn’t beat Theron, but if he could just stall the old man, that would be enough.
The tide of battle had turned. Allen and Lilia now held the upper hand. Using their height advantage, they unleashed wave after wave of Forbidden Spells, raining destruction down on Evander.
"Damned kid, get down here! Holy Radiance!"
Evander roared in fury. He took two hits from Allen’s Forbidden Spells head-on, then cast Holy Radiance again.
Countless pillars of light crashed down from the sky.
Allen quickly summoned his Heaven’s Punishment: Earth Shield to block as much as he could.
Lilia tucked her wings and zipped through the air, dodging the falling beams. But they still got hit by a few.
Allen managed to block his hits, but Lilia’s Devil Wings were pierced through. Blood dripped down.
"Damn it! That was a wing I just healed!" Lilia shouted, her voice trembling with anger as she wobbled in the air. "Allen, kill this old bastard!"
"Leave it to me! Heaven’s Punishment: Tempest Slash!"
Allen shouted. His body vanished. A wild gale howled, and a sea of cold glints flashed, completely engulfing Evander.
"Holy Shield!"
Evander cried out. He didn’t dare be careless and formed a protective barrier instantly.
Clang... Clang...
The endless slashes fell. In the blink of an eye, the light shield shattered, and blood mist filled the air.
"Evander!"
Theron shouted in anger. He tried to rush over and help several times, but Lucas kept him blocked.
"This cursed rage... Even if I die, I won’t let you go! Holy Slash!"
Evander’s face contorted into a snarl. Ignoring the wounds that ravaged his body, he hoisted his staff high, gathering power for another assault.
"Lilia, watch out!"
Allen’s heart skipped a beat. This old man wasn’t aiming at him anymore; he was targeting Lilia.
Holy light flashed and condensed into a sharp blade, tearing through the sky and slicing down with a roar.
Lilia was already wounded, and her wings were riddled with bloody holes from the light pillars. She fell uncontrollably, unable to dodge in time.
In the nick of time, she could only tighten her wings to shield her body.
Boom!
Blood sprayed everywhere. Lilia was flung backward. Her wings were torn off completely, and a horrifying wound gaped open on her back.
This time, her injuries were even worse than when Lucas cut off her wings.
"You old bastard! You’re asking for death!"
Allen, consumed by rage, pushed his Tempest Slash to its absolute limit. Countless beams of cold light flashed, enveloping Evander with enough force to tear him apart.
Pfft...
Blood flew through the air. Evander had no way to fight back. His gray robe was shredded, and not an inch of his withered skin remained intact. His body was nearly shredded by the cold light. He collapsed to the ground, barely clinging to life.
Allen didn’t give him a chance to react. His Saber sliced through, and a head rolled across the ground.
