The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!-Chapter 457: Justified and Proper
Upon returning home, Paige Sterling kicked off her shoes and collapsed onto the sofa. It took her quite some time to get up and start looking at the papers on the coffee table.
She was so focused that she forgot Wayne Wright was still in the house. She asked the robot to bring her a glass of water.
A moment later, the water was handed over. Paige kept her head down and accepted it without looking up.
She took a sip, only to find it wasn’t water but milk.
How could the robot have messed up her instructions?
Paige looked up and finally noticed Wayne standing there like a statue.
How did she forget about having someone like him in the house?
Paige thought for a moment and said, "Go find a room to rest by yourself, don’t mind me."
Wayne said nothing. Paige didn’t sleep, so he didn’t rest either. He started tidying up the house, even tidying up Paige’s bedroom.
When Paige returned to her bedroom to rest, she found her previously worn underwear washed clean and hanging on the balcony.
Paige, "..."
She walked out with a gloomy face, glanced at Wayne lying across the sofa, and said, "Come here!"
Wayne stood up and walked over to Paige.
He lowered his head to look at Paige, expressionless, yet resembling a faithful hound.
Paige pointed to the balcony, "Who told you to touch those?"
Wayne said nothing.
Paige recalled he was stubborn, looking exasperated, "You shouldn’t touch those things anymore. I’ll wash them myself."
This really feels like having a babysitter.
Wayne still said nothing, so Paige ignored him, turned back to the bedroom, and as she closed the door, saw Wayne curling back into the sofa and asked, "Why are you sleeping on the sofa?"
Although the sofa wasn’t small, Wayne’s physique was too large, forcing him to curl up when sleeping on it.
Wayne uttered three words, "To protect you."
By sleeping in the living room, he could detect any incident immediately.
Paige said, "You’d better go sleep in the bedroom; nothing will happen to me."
Wayne didn’t listen.
Paige naturally didn’t bother with him, and she closed the door to sleep.
The next day, while Paige was still in bed, a fragrant aroma wafted from the kitchen—the long-lost scent of homestyle cooking.
Initially, Paige didn’t plan to get up, but the aroma drew her awake.
She dashed to the kitchen and saw Wayne busying himself there, the dining table already set with the dishes he’d prepared.
It was indeed a feast.
Paige lacked any culinary talent.
Previously, she had no self-awareness and felt rather pleased with herself, with both Julian Hawthorne and Jared Sullivan hiding the truth from her, she had no clue her cooking was like poison.
Eventually, she learned the truth by chance, and never cooked again.
And since Julian Hawthorne left home, Paige returned to eating meals prepared by the robot.
Having gotten used to Julian’s culinary delights, eating robot-cooked food was soulless at best.
If not for survival, Paige wouldn’t want to eat it at all. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Now, Wayne’s cooking made her feel alive again.
She suddenly felt grateful to the chief for assigning someone like him.
She gave Wayne a thumbs up, "It’s delicious. In the future, don’t follow me, just stay home and cook for me."
Wayne said nothing.
He could cook, but he’d continue to follow her.
Without following her, he wouldn’t feel assured.
After breakfast, Paige felt lively and refreshed.
Today was Saturday, and Wayne thought she’d spend the day at home, yet she seemed to be heading out.
Wayne asked, "Where are you going?"
Paige replied, "I’m going to see my husband."
Wayne’s expression instantly changed, dark and cloudy, especially when he saw Paige happily entering the bedroom, soon emerging in a sky-blue dress humming a tune; he felt disheartened.
Isn’t it better to stay home? Why go see that awful man?
But he had no grounds to say this, so he could only follow Paige when she left.
Paige turned back to look at him, "I’m going to see my husband, why are you following? You should stay at home; you’re pretty good at tidying up the house, better than the robot."
Though the robot was convenient, it lacked a soul. When the household was reduced to just herself and the robot for long periods, Paige felt quite bored.
Yet Wayne remained silent, and rigidly followed behind Paige, his walking stance appeared exceptionally mechanical, reflecting his unwillingness.
Seeing his insistence on following, Paige didn’t argue, and directed him to drive once at the garage, while she pulled out a small mirror to apply lipstick.
Wayne’s oppressive aura intensified.
Going out of her way to put on lipstick to meet that damn man, what is she thinking?
Paige arrived at Alisa’s home, and Alisa came out to meet her, seeing her dressed so flamboyantly today, frowned.
Paige had a naturally good foundation; she looked striking even with a bare face, and now with just a touch of lip color, she was irresistibly gorgeous, with a charm no woman could resist.
Alisa admitted she was jealous.
This Paige, if Julian Hawthorne saw her, could he really resist?
Alisa’s gaze inadvertently passed over the unremarkable Wayne, landing directly on Paige.
"Miss Sterling, what are you doing here again?"
Paige said, "Of course I’m here to see my husband."
Alisa sneered, "Your husband? Miss Sterling, do you plan to continue pestering?"
Paige said, "As long as we aren’t divorced, I’m his wife, and by the right of our relationship, I’ll pester him."
Alisa’s expression turned cold, "Aren’t you afraid President Hawthorne will dislike you for this persistent harassment?"
Paige replied, "It doesn’t matter, if he has the power, then divorce me; if not, he’ll be stuck with me pestering him for life. Besides, maybe he likes it when I pester him like this, he used to stick to me the most..."
Alisa’s eyes betrayed a flash of murderous intent, "Miss Sterling, you’d better know your limits. Can’t divorce, but can’t death do us part either?"
Paige raised her eyebrows and retorted, "So, Alisa, are you suggesting you’d kill me?"
Alisa laughed, "How could I do that to Miss Sterling? But if a person’s actions are too excessive, they are bound to encounter one or two accidents, don’t you think so, Miss Sterling?"
Paige sneered, "Seems like The Tell Group is also going downhill, Alisa, where’s your confidence coming from? Is it from Julian? Haven’t you realized, the Hawthorne Family is no longer under his sole control?"
Alisa’s face darkened.
Indeed, no matter how much she tried to salvage it, the downfall of The Tell Group was inevitable, she couldn’t save it.
At such times, she could only pin all her hopes on Julian Hawthorne.
As long as Julian regained control of the Hawthorne Family, his feelings for her would surely prevent him from letting her sink.
So Julian couldn’t stay at her house anymore; he needed to return to the Hawthorne Family and retake control of the Hawthorne Group.
Paige coming over was possibly to persuade Julian to return; hence, why stop him?
Thus, Alisa said, "Since Miss Sterling is here to see President Hawthorne, please come in with me."
Paige followed Alisa inside, with Wayne closely behind.
Alisa invited Paige to wait in the living room, then went into the room to call Julian Hawthorne.
Julian was looking at his phone when Alisa walked in, her expression conflicting, "President Hawthorne, your drama queen wife is here to pester you again."
Now that Julian was living in Alisa’s house, naturally he had to express his dislike for Paige in front of Alisa.
