The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!-Chapter 442: Pregnant
Paige Sterling went to the Hawthorne Group on the 38th floor.
For now, the Hawthorne Group is temporarily being managed by Simon Hawthorne, with Secretary Jones assisting him.
Paige found Secretary Jones, "Where’s Julian Hawthorne?"
"Um, ma’am..." Secretary Jones looked awkward, not yet deciding how to respond before Paige interrupted, "Forget it, you go on with your work, don’t mind me."
Secretary Jones, "..."
President Hawthorne instructed not to proactively tell her about his whereabouts, but if she asked, he must tell.
He had been holding it in for so long, finally waiting for Paige to ask, intending to play coy by pretending not to know, and then wait for Paige to question anxiously, so he could tell President Hawthorne that after he disappeared, she was indeed very, very worried about him.
But then, just as he had planned it all out, Paige came but didn’t ask, and just left, just left...
Shaun Jones, "..."
What does President Sterling mean by this? Doesn’t she care about President Hawthorne anymore?
After handling some documents in the office, Paige left the Hawthorne Group building.
As she stepped out, she saw Austin Xavier, leaning against his flashy sports car, seemingly in a good mood.
Julian Hawthorne died, how could he not be happy?
A dead man could no longer compete with him, Paige would ultimately be his.
When he saw Paige coming out, he walked up to her.
"Paige Sterling."
He blocked Paige’s path, and she glanced at him.
"Austin Xavier, do you need something?"
Paige smiled, a malicious grin, "Nothing, I just wanted to tell you, Julian Hawthorne was really good to you, even in death, he found someone to accompany you."
As soon as he finished speaking, the smile froze on his face because Paige stepped on his foot.
Even though she was wearing flat shoes, the pressure she applied made Austin’s face twist in pain.
"Paige Sterling!"
Paige said coldly, "I’ve already told you not to speak so provocatively, and definitely don’t go around cursing people to death."
Austin fixed his gaze on her, "Even if you’re sincere to Julian Hawthorne, can he live up to your sincerity? Aren’t you afraid your heartfelt intentions will turn out to be a joke in the end?"
Paige squinted, looking at Austin, "What are you implying, Austin Xavier?"
Austin sneered, "Don’t you know? Julian Hawthorne secretly kept a woman on the side, and she’s pregnant. Now, upon hearing something happened to Julian, she brazenly went to the Rollins Family, claiming the child in her womb is Julian’s posthumous child, vying for recognition and inheritance."
As Austin spoke, he watched Paige.
He couldn’t quite grasp her reaction. He couldn’t discern what Paige was thinking; she didn’t look angry or shocked.
This calmness as if she hadn’t heard him speak.
Does she not care about Julian Hawthorne?
If that’s truly the case, Austin would be more than happy about it.
But he was more afraid that Paige was holding back her anger instead.
After half a moment with a blank expression, Paige curled her lips, sarcastically saying to Austin, "You sure pay close attention to the Hawthorne Family’s affairs. I haven’t even heard about it myself, yet you already know. The child in that woman’s womb, did you dig it out from some trash bin’s condoms?"
Austin remembered his past foolish acts, and a green tinge appeared on his face.
"This time, it has nothing to do with me. That woman and Julian Hawthorne really had an affair. If you don’t believe me, check it yourself."
Fearing Paige wouldn’t believe him, he said, "The woman was a gift to Julian Hawthorne from Henry Hale. The Hawthorne Family has already kept her. They haven’t told you, probably because they’re afraid you’ll eliminate Julian’s posthumous child. They treat you well, not wanting to leave you sonless, they’re planning on giving you a son to raise."
Austin couldn’t help but mockingly chide, "No matter how much the Hawthorne Family values you, your status now can’t possibly be more important than a fetus. Even your taste in men is pretty awful."
In any case, Austin just felt that Paige didn’t choose him because she lacked good judgment.
Paige looked at Austin with an inexplicable gaze, "Even if Julian Hawthorne really has a posthumous child, shouldn’t I be the one angry? Why do you seem more agitated than I am? Anyone would think it’s you who got cheated on."
Austin choked up briefly, "Aren’t you even a bit heartbroken?"
Paige countered, "Why should I be heartbroken over something that probably doesn’t even exist? Did you come here just to see me sad? That would surely disappoint you."
"Do you really believe in Julian Hawthorne that much?" Austin sneered, "That woman truly is pregnant. Julian wasn’t as sincere with you as you think."
Paige said, "So what? Being pregnant doesn’t mean it’s Julian’s."
Austin stared hard at Paige, not believing she could endure such a thing. Was this still Paige?
Or did she love Julian Hawthorne so much that she could tolerate his betrayal?
"Paige Sterling, what is there to love about Julian Hawthorne?"
Paige replied, "He’s worth everything. If not, why would I marry him? To live out a love-hate relationship with him?"
"But he’s dead now!"
"Seems you haven’t learned your lesson." Paige stepped on Austin again, "Without seeing a body, in my heart, he’ll forever be alive."
With that, Paige walked away.
Austin watched her departing figure, gritting his teeth.
Paige drove straight back to The Hawthorne Family.
She was going to see the woman who claimed to be pregnant with Julian’s child. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Heh, this certainly was interesting; originally, it seemed like a major national event.
But now it’s become a domestic family drama, and even involves a child.
Mrs. Hawthorne, after being rescued, returned to The Hawthorne Family.
Now she believed the outside world was very dangerous and wouldn’t leave The Hawthorne Family for anything.
The woman claiming to be pregnant with Julian’s child was someone Mrs. Hawthorne insisted on keeping.
She now believed Julian indeed encountered misfortune and wouldn’t return.
So, the child in this woman’s womb might be Julian’s only child. Given the situation, her insistence on keeping the child couldn’t be challenged by anyone.
But both Old Master Hawthorne and Simon Hawthorne disagreed.
They simply didn’t believe that the child in this woman’s belly was Julian’s.
Even if it were, they would not keep it.
Paige was Julian’s wife, keeping this child would be an affront to her.
Old Master Hawthorne wasn’t a conventional or rigid man, and didn’t think a child was more important than Paige.
Simon Hawthorne’s stance wasn’t as firm as Old Master Hawthorne’s, but he was merely concerned that being too assertive would trigger Mrs. Hawthorne again, so he cautiously reminded, "Ma, why not let Paige handle this matter? She truly has the most resolution in this."
