The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 199 Out of Ideas_1
"Impossible, my son looks down on me for selling pesticides, how could he possibly sell drugs for someone else?" The middle-aged man was somewhat agitated, his neck stiff as he bellowed loudly.
Seeing this, Li Qing said, "There’s no point in everyone getting red in the face and arguing. If I were you, Uncle, I’d just call your son and ask him. If it’s really not true, then there’s nothing to worry about."
Officer Wang nodded and said, "Make the call!"
Faced with the officer’s order, the middle-aged man hesitated, then took out his phone and dialed.
"You worthless piece of crap, have you been selling drugs on the sly recently?" As soon as the call connected, the middle-aged man roared with rage.
The voice that came from the speakerphone, tinged with youthful naivety, replied, "Even though you’re my old man, don’t talk nonsense. I haven’t touched your stuff. If you don’t believe it, go home and count it yourself to see if anything’s missing."
"You still won’t tell the truth? Your old man is in a detention cell right now, are you going to wait until I’m sitting in prison before you tell the truth?" The middle-aged man threatened furiously.
"Ah? You’ve been detained? What the fuck, seriously? Alright, I’ll tell the truth. I did sell some drugs for you recently, but not much, just a box, and it was to a friend."
"You good-for-nothing!" The middle-aged man exploded with rage and cursed profusely into the phone.
Officer Wang’s expression changed subtly, and he said to the middle-aged man, "Come out, take us to your son."
"The rest of you, you can go."
Liang Zhongliang and the others had gotten into a dispute with the pesticide shop owner, but they hadn’t actually come to blows.
The police had brought them in, giving them just a warning.
So there was no need for any additional procedures.
Li Qing caught up with Liang Zhongliang and the others outside and went looking for Old Kong the Third.
"What did the cops say?" Old Kong the Third, a cigarette hanging from his lips, asked anxiously.
"It was that bastard who sold the drugs, now it’s up to the police to deal with it!" Liang Zhongliang said.
Li Qing’s eyelids dropped slightly as he shook his head and said, "Something’s not right."
"A single box of pesticide can’t knock down that many trees; there’s probably more to this story."
"What else could it be?" Old Kong the Third pressed.
"Just now, the pesticide shop owner’s son only said he sold a box of pesticide, but he didn’t specify what kind of drugs or what they were for. I suspect they were mixing drugs," Li Qing said with a grave tone. "Old Kong the Third must also know that doing this is illegal; it’s unlikely he would leave evidence so easily."
"You mean..." Old Kong the Third frowned, "he bought legal drugs from many places and then mixed them all together at the end?"
Li Qing nodded somberly, "Even if the pesticide shop owner’s son really did sell the drugs just now, it wouldn’t matter, because what he’s doing is legitimate business, and what he’s selling is legal."
"So what the fuck do we do? Are we completely out of options?" Liang Zhongliang cursed loudly.
Old Kong the Third smacked Liang Zhongliang on the back of the head, chiding, "Watch your fucking mouth when you talk to Brother Li."
Liang Zhongliang gave a sheepish smile and said, "Sorry, Brother Li, I wasn’t fucking talking to you."
Li Qing gave a faint smile and waved his hand, "No problem."
Because of Lü Zong’s attitude toward him, Old Kong the Third was showing him a lot more respect than before.
"Qingzi, this kid’s words may be coarse, but he’s got a point. If we go by what you’re saying, doesn’t that mean we have absolutely no way to deal with them?" Old Kong the Third inquired.
Li Qing spoke with a gravity in his tone, "Unless we can find the person who actually poisoned the trees, or, pry open the mouth of the person who bought the drugs, to trace the real perpetrator behind it all." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"But for now, we can only wait and see how the police station moves; they’ve already gone to arrest someone."
Brother Gong waved his fist in frustration, "Damn it, this is such bad luck, then let’s just wait."
"That Wang always looks at me with disapproval; I don’t want to stir up any more trouble with him."
Li Qing looked at Brother Gong, curious, "Speaking of which, that Officer Wang seems to take an extra interest in you. Is there a story there?"
"Heh heh, the story there is a big one," Liang Zhongliang snickered, a lewd smile on his face.
Brother Gong shot Liang Zhongliang a glare and said to Li Qing, "There’s not much of a story. I just dated his sister before. Her family is quite decent, and they looked down on me for not having a proper job. But his sister took a fancy to me and clung to me relentlessly. The situation escalated, and that guy has held a grudge against me ever since."
Li Qing thought to himself that it was more than just a grudge.
No wonder every time Officer Wang saw Brother Gong, he appeared as if he couldn’t wait to bring him to justice.
So there was this episode between them.
Even though Li Qing was now close to Brother Gong, if he had a daughter who dared to date such an idle rogue, he would also definitely break her legs to utterly extinguish that notion.
"What happened after that?" asked Li Qing.
Brother Gong’s expression turned awkward as he shook his head, "After that, there was no after."
Seeing that he didn’t want to continue, Li Qing tactfully refrained from inquiring further.
"I’ll be taking off, then. Call me if you need anything." Li Qing waved goodbye to everyone.
By the time he returned to the village, it was already past three in the afternoon.
The house was empty; both Han Mei and Tian Yue’e were out.
Lately, the Wenguan Leaves in the nearby villages had been pretty much picked clean, and only a few people sporadically came to sell some, so there wasn’t much for Han Mei and Tian Yue’e to stay busy with.
Li Qing called Han Mei to find out where they were and learned that they were helping out in Tian Yue’e’s greenhouse, so he hung up.
The back and forth of the day had taken its toll on him.
Li Qing brewed a pot of tea, intending to lie on the couch and rest for a while.
But he accidentally fell asleep.
When he woke up, dusk was about to fall, and the clinking of chopping from the kitchen could be heard.
Li Qing rubbed his gritty eyes and, picking up the now cold tea from the table, gulped down a few mouthfuls before entering the kitchen.
By the stove, Han Mei was chopping vegetables in an apron.
She was wearing a pair of grey wide-leg pants, and as she bent over to chop vegetables, the soft fabric clung tightly to her shapely behind, looking almost as if she wore nothing.
The contours of her peach-like bottom were outlined all too clearly.
A heat quietly rose in Li Qing’s chest; he stepped forward and embraced Han Mei’s supple waist, pressing his lower body against that incredibly soft, bouncy behind.
"Awake? Are you hungry?" Han Mei turned her head and asked softly, without pushing Li Qing away.
Li Qing nodded, "Hungry, I want to eat sister-in-law!"
