Chapter 25 - The Demon's Arrive

"This..." Selena was stumped.

The vice-principal certainly couldn't just follow the first years on their training camp, someone had to look after the academy.

James felt that they were a little in over their heads. This matter had to do with the entire human realm, no, perhaps even the entire world.

"Do you think we should inform the school?"

Selena was a very strong mage and from a powerful noble family, but at this time she deferred to James.

James had to think for a long time. If they really did inform the school that would be best, but there is a certain risk. Of course, he can mitigate the risk...

He turned to the beautiful red haired woman in front of him. If she was the informer then she would bear all the trouble if the Everhearts ever found out, and as long as she didn't tell anyone, no one would find out about his involvement.

"Yes, you should try to meet the vice-principal alone, don't tell anyone else. Just say you overheard Ryan talking and our suspicions about what the Everhearts are planning."

James didn't have a recording of the conversation otherwise he would have also given it to her for proof, although in this magical world voice recordings couldn't really serve as evidence.

"...Also make sure not to tell him about me. I'm still too weak right now, it's better for me to hide."

"Alright." Selena had a calm smile on her face.

Seeing this, his eyes flickered. He didn't think that after all she put him through he would suddenly feel a little guilty, but he couldn't help it.

James was so conflicted that he didn't even try anything that night.

When he woke up the next morning, he didn't return to his dorms immediately, anyway there was no point as he didn't have time to place a trace crystal yesterday.

The demon students were nowhere to be seen as of now, but James wasn't surprised. He had heard from Selena this morning that they would arrive during the combat practice lesson as it was the only combination class that included all of the first years.

Throughout the lessons in the morning he could feel his classmates' excitement, after all even though they all clamoured on about how they hated demons, this was probably the first time that many of them would ever see one in person.

Today, Darien was also released from the hospital and could come back to class.

During lessons James could feel the boy staring at him with a fierce look, but this time James didn't cower back like before, instead he looked back calmly.

"Bastard!" Darien smashed his hand on the table.

It was Runes and the teacher had just left, people were starting to mill out of the classroom and head toward the joint combat practice class.

Darien's sudden shout captured everyone's attention.

"Don't worry about that loser. Let him be arrogant for now, he's already wasted all of his potential and he'll never move past a level 1 mage."

Ryan shook his head and comforted the boy, but if you looked closely his eyes were filled with disdain.

This was just a small episode and most people quickly forgot about it.

After all, the demon students were coming!

The crowd of students stood in the large arena while listening to the beautiful red haired professor at the front. James was also in the crowd but he was a little absentminded. More than the demon students he was interested in Helena Ashvane, the new professor.

After she had told him about the Witch Tribe yesterday, James had spent the whole evening reading up on them. Even though he didn't find a specific curse that seemed to match the one that was inflicted on him, he did learn a lot about the history of the Witch Tribe.

They were quite isolated so the human realm didn't have a lot of information, but he knew that the Witch Tribe had close contact with the demon realm, which is why he wanted to talk to Helena.

Of course, he also remembered what the system had said before:

[Does the host want to establish a contract with Helena Ashvane? Yes/No]

After he became a level 1 mage, he had an extra contract. He was wondering who to use it on, then Helena showed up.

James didn't deny he was tempted. After all she was beautiful and powerful, and now that he knew that Ryan Everheart had a conspiracy against the demons, having her on his side could prove useful.

Speak of the devil and the devil shall appear.

At this time a small group entered the arena and approached the crowd. They were led by a beautiful woman with purple skin and two small horns on her head.

Selena also noticed the group so she turned to the students and said with a calm face:

"Everyone, let's welcome the demon delegation."

There was the sound of scattered applause but most people were whispering amongst themselves commenting on the strange group of people.

Behind Helena, walked the delegation of demon students - each unique in their features and aura. Some had tails swishing with restless energy, others bore markings or faintly glowing tattoos that hinted at enchantments or bloodline powers.

But it was the one to Helena's left who drew the most attention.

He was tall, with crimson skin like molten clay and two long black horns that arched back from his temples. His golden eyes scanned the human students calmly. When his gaze swept over the crowd, most of the students flinched or looked away, including James.

"Tsk. Weaklings."

The red-skinned demon's voice wasn't loud, but it echoed throughout the arena. The demons behind him chuckled.

A wave of anger spread across the human students.

"What did you say?!"

Darien roared and stepped out in front of the group of demons. Many students also stepped forward and rallied around him.

James stood at the back and glanced at Helena who had a slight smile on her face. She seemed to have no plans of de-escalating the situation.
