The Gentleman at the End-Chapter 332 - 331 Glory Hall
Chapter 332: Chapter 331 Glory Hall
Chapter 332 -331 Glory Hall
“Dear Mr. William:
Due to the outstanding contribution you made during the nightmare incident, you are hereby invited to the Hall of Honor to accept a special commendation from the organization. –
——G&D”
“Hmm? The Hall of Honor… making such a big fuss?”
Yi Chen was fortunate to have read about the Hall of Honor in books; only individuals who had made tremendous contributions to the organization were qualified to ascend to the Hall.
“It seems the organization takes the nightmare incident very seriously… But that’s also right. If Catherine hadn’t played the game with me and had continued with her methods instead, at least 50% of the population would have been in trouble.
It just so happened that I was forced to discard my weapon during the nightmare incident. I might as well see if I can get my hands on a suitable weapon directly from within the organization as part of my honor reward.”
With the letter in hand, Yi Chen’s sleepiness was swept away.
After leaving a note for the sleeping Jin, he left alone. During this period, it was all thanks to Jin’s physical nourishment, peer sparring, and shared leisure time that Yi Chen had essentially walked out from under the dual shadow of having been beaten ‘in body and spirit’.
Although Jin’s fighting style was also ‘pure physical,’ it differed drastically from the combat techniques of Zede and Yi Chen,
Supported by cancer cells, Jin could actively ‘sacrifice’ parts of himself during combat to inflict equal damage on the opponent, then make use of the cancer’s regenerative powers to heal swiftly and gain the upper hand.
…
It was still early, and Yi Chen planned to grab a bowl of pork stew noodles in the lower district before heading over.
However, when he stepped into a newly opened restaurant, a well-wrapped-up waiter proactively approached him.
Yi Chen’s vision easily pierced through the waiter’s collar, glimpsing the ‘brain in a vat’ structure hidden within.
The structure was attached to a highly human-like prosthetic body, and all movements appeared no different from those of a normal person.
“Teacher!”
Upon seeing Yi Chen, the waiter called out the honorific title with great excitement.
This person was none other than Breeder Blanklin, who had participated in the nightmare game as a death row inmate. Because the information he provided had some value, the organization honored its promise by giving him a healthy prosthetic body and freedom of identity.
“Blanklin, your new body seems quite good.”
“It’s all thanks to the teacher for giving me a chance to be reborn. Once I’ve worked here long enough to save money, and have slowly adapted to this prosthetic body to regain my previous level of slaughtering skills, I will leave the city to begin my quest for knowledge.”
“No hurry, there’s much to learn within the organization as well. Why not completely understand the knowledge available here before departing?”
“Yes.”
Blanklin also purposely got Yi Chen some extra pork. When Yi Chen left the restaurant, Blanklin saw him off in a gentlemanly manner the whole way.
Walking alone towards the Hall of Honor, Yi Chen savored the feeling of being a teacher,
for during his life, he had essentially maintained the identity of a student — an extremely lowly one, tightly oppressed, even ultimately dying in the pursuit of his education.
The memories of his college days started to become vague in recent times,
as the memories from the orphanage fully awakened, Yi Chen could sense that his memories of college, of graduate school, must have been fabricated.
The real memories were still sealed away, and Yi Chen had ‘accidentally died’ during his pursuit of college education, ultimately arriving here with the brand new identity of William Behrens.
“Life before, I shall return once I’ve absorbed enough knowledge and gained enough power, to uncover the real cause of my death and turn those ‘teachers’ who tried to enslave me into students.
For now, I can also start educating more students appropriately, establish a society; the more students there are, the more knowledge they can collect, and the more knowledge they ultimately share with me.
Knowledge is surely a necessity for me to upgrade my Madness Brain, enhance my epidemic value, and even reach higher echelons.
Besides, I also need to consider the matter of Skin, to meet the physical confrontations prescribed by Teacher Zede.
Oh, and I combined Lorrian’s two elements of Moon and Stars within the Madness Brain during the last ‘lunar journey,’ creating something new. This is something I must discuss with Principal Desline.
Ah, it’s better not to think about it… there’s so much to do… One thing at a time.”
…
[Hall of Honor]
The building was established deep within Zion,
and, due to its symbolic significance, it also served as a point for bestowing high-rank honors, as well as a repository for major historical records of the organization’s development, directly expressing this building’s “status” in Zion through its scale and height.
Therefore,
the hall’s design spanned the upper, middle, and lower streets vertically.
To reach the hall, one first had to traverse an extended staircase.
With thousands of steps and equipped with platforms and numerous resting spots along the way, it quite felt like climbing a mountain.
After about half an hour of ascending, when one had almost reached the horizontal elevation of the upper streets, the grand columnar gateway would give way to a Gothic dome structure built of marble.
It was indeed the Glory Hall,
atop which a large bell was installed, its chimes resounding throughout the entirety of Zion whenever an honorable deed was recorded.
Upon entering the hall, Yi Chen was still greeted by a lengthy and expansive staircase.
The stained-glass windows at the top of the steps employed “active lighting” to cast light in as much as possible, bathing anyone who entered the hall in its glow.
Additionally, the walls on both sides of the stairs were fitted with niches at regular intervals,
each containing single, paired, or even group head sculptures, combined with gold nameplates featuring “names,” symbolizing these people’s contributions and the honors they had received for the organization.
Among them, Yi Chen also caught a glimpse of a familiar portrait sculpture – “Dis Campbell, the inventor of the Sun Secret Medicine.”
By the time he reached the round central hall of the Glory Hall, climbing the internal stairs,
the other five invitees had already arrived.
The attendees, except for Wrinkled Skin Spacy whom he was not very familiar with, were all acquaintances, so Yi Chen had nothing to avoid and quickly took his place beside his rank-mate, Reagan.
Yi Chen also noticed that Spacy was sneakily peeking at him through the gaps in his drooping eyelids.
The attire he had chosen for the day was also somewhat “extravagant,” consisting of a rather primitive “stitched cloak.”
Made from the highest purity of “Gentleman’s Skin,” it was stitched together with the simplest of threads, leaving the seams visible, forming a loose cloak draped over his body.
Combined with the extensive layers of Spacy’s own skin, it was hard to distinguish which parts were the cloak and which were his own.
Furthermore,
within this great hall, Yi Chen also saw the magnificent sculpture of the “First Gentleman” from days past,
including the current First Gentleman, a total of seven sculptures surrounded the hall, each base accompanied by a leather-bound tome, which could be consulted for their detailed life stories by touch.
Because of their existence, the organization had been able to develop to its present state, allowing everyone to easily acquire skin attire to flaunt their gentlemanly status.
Yi Chen also respectfully bowed to each of these selflessly devoted predecessors in turn.
At that moment,
three figures approached the crowd, including the two Prophets, Yuri and Marko, as well as President and Tailor Spacy, who immediately greeted them with a gentlemanly gesture of respect.
The three newcomers were indeed the organization’s surviving founders, akin to living fossils.

Among them was one whom Yi Chen had met – “The First Doctor, Gregory Alaus,” the founder of the medical system, presently the Principal of Hippocrates Hospital.
He was still dressed in a flamboyant purple suit with sunglasses and strode with a vigor that even seemed healthier than many younger people.
However,
he was the only one who could overcome the issue of age; the other two appeared to be in a rather ‘dire’ state.
One of them was so old that his form was hardly discernible, the wrinkles on his face alone numbering over a thousand.
Garbed in a bishop’s garment with golden trim, the gem-encrusted staff in his hand emitted a soft glow, even capable of bringing a sense of comfort and solace to the gentlemen present.
The other no longer had a physical body,
his brain soaked in a fluid vat, cradled by a steel knight who seemed like a giant, or perhaps this giant knight was his temporary prosthetic body.
