Chapter 56 -56: Are you asking about this Jade Token that my sister gave me?
Jennings Family.
Donovan Jennings went to the police station to help with some statements and handle the aftermath of eight people fainting in the teaching building.
He returned home later than Lucas Jennings.
As soon as he entered, he saw Lucas bouncing over energetically, “Brother Donovan, how did it go?”
Donovan gave him a cool glance, “Of course, it was covered up. Otherwise, you guys playing CS in the abandoned teaching building and all fainting there would have gone viral online by now.”
Lucas gave him a big thumbs up, “That’s my brother! It’s hot outside, right? I think it’s pretty hot inside, too. The air conditioning isn’t cool enough…”
Lucas complained as he exaggeratedly tugged at the collar of his T-shirt.
Donovan almost immediately noticed the Jade Token hanging around the young man’s neck, his peach blossom eyes narrowed slightly, with a hint of a smile or not, he said,
“That T-shirt looks nice, newly bought?”
Lucas blinked, not caring about what he was asked, boasting exaggeratedly,
“What? Are you asking about this Jade Token on my neck? Yes, Scarlett gave it to me, it’s just like the one you and Uncle have!”
Odessa walked over from the living room area and, hearing this, discreetly rolled her eyes.
Lucas had put on a show for her just before he got home.
She asked him, “Why are you back so soon? Didn’t you stay at the hospital for a thorough check-up?”
Lucas replied, “Aunt, you’re asking what the use of this Jade Token is around my neck? My sister said it’s for protection, wearing it cures all illnesses. What check-up? It’s unnecessary.”
She couldn’t understand it.
Lucas had been giving Scarlett a hard time recently, yet now after a single outing, he seemed like a changed person.
And kept calling her sister!
Could he have fallen under a spell?
Fallen under Scarlett’s spell.
Donovan noticed Lucas’s deliberate showing off and leaned in to take a closer look, not forgetting to nod,
“Indeed, it looks just like mine, though the silver chain is so-so.”
Lucas perked up immediately, “Brother Donovan, don’t you have that red string? Give me one too, I’ll swap it.”
Donovan smiled meaningfully, “Not worried the red string’s too tacky?”
Lucas’s small face went stern,
“What’s tacky about it? The red string is a tradition, perfectly illustrating our Cathay Lands’ thousands of years of traditional, understated, implicit beauty. When it comes to the perfect pairing with Jade, it must be the red string!”
Donovan’s smile grew wider, after a while, he patted Lucas’s shoulder,
“Not bad, your brain came back with a sense of aesthetics. I’ll have someone bring you one later.”
With that, he headed upstairs.
Lucas stood there for a good long while before realizing it, almost blew his lid!
What kind of brother calls him brainless?!
When Scarlett Jennings returned from the hospital to the Jennings household, she saw Lucas sitting on the stairs in the foyer, holding her little Pretty, very diligently stroking its tail fur.
Earlier, Lucas couldn’t stop badmouthing Pretty, and now he was practically a fox slave.
When he saw her, Lucas had a moment of embarrassment, but quickly recovered, picked up Pretty the fox, and came over to her,
“Sis, you’re back? Oh, I saw it seemed lonely in your room, so I let it out to play.”
Scarlett felt a bit uneasy with this new Lucas, nodded slightly, raised her hand, preparing to take Pretty back from his arms, but Lucas dodged slightly and gestured toward the side chamber,
“Sis, someone’s looking for you.”
Scarlett was taken aback, couldn’t think of anyone besides the Garrison Family people who would come to the Jennings Family looking for her, but she gave up taking Pretty back, nodded, and headed towards the side chamber.
Upon entering, she heard the voice of Odessa speaking with someone, and once she saw who was in the side chamber, it strangely felt as expected.
The visitor was Alicia Sharp.
…
Earlier that morning.
Alicia Sharp had just obtained her driver’s license and drove alone around the vicinity of Sea University.
Thanks to Sea University’s renowned scenery, it was always open for tourist visits during the summer vacation.
When Alicia arrived, the area around Sea University was as bustling as ever.
Seeing the street ahead almost blocked, she promptly decided to turn around and leave, but unexpectedly, as she turned and drove across an intersection, she accidentally grazed someone to the ground.
Realizing what happened, Alicia quickly stopped the car and got out, approached the front of the car, and saw a gentle and handsome young man.
He was dressed in a fresh-looking shirt and black pants, giving off a university campus heartthrob feel at first glance.
“Sorry, I didn’t see you just now… Are you okay?”
The boy smiled at her slightly, “I’m fine, it’s just a pity about it.”
Only then did Alicia see the bag he was holding, which had fallen to the ground, with the plaster cast inside clearly damaged.
“How much is this? I’ll compensate you,” Alicia said, almost without hesitation, taking out her phone.
The boy saw her actions, his eyes flickered slightly, but he shook his head, “This piece… it’s not worth much, I made it myself, originally for a summer art exhibition competition.”
Hearing it was an exhibit piece, Alicia was visibly taken aback.
That would be hard to compensate for.
Seeing her reaction, the boy smiled somewhat helplessly, “I guess I’m just not meant for this competition, no worries, it’s not your fault, you don’t need to compensate me.”
But Alicia was not one to break others’ things and walk away,
“Everything has its worth, you can quote me a price.”
Alicia thought it would be okay even to compensate according to the exhibition prize money, but unexpectedly the boy still shook his head and suddenly said,
“If you really want to make up for it, maybe you could be my hand model? Your hands are beautiful, and my entry is a plaster cast hand model…”
Alicia didn’t expect such a request and hadn’t reacted yet when he had already pulled out his phone,
“Could I add you on WeChat?”
The man’s demeanor was polite, even gentlemanly. Without much thought, Alicia instinctively went to take out her phone.
However, just as she was about to take her phone to accept his friend request, suddenly she recalled the words from the Jennings Family’s eldest daughter at the banquet that night—
[“You’ve got bad peach blossoms around; be cautious with those who consciously make you feel guilty.”]
Alicia originally hadn’t taken it to heart.
But inexplicably, when she saw the man in front, suddenly, it connected with what Scarlett Jennings had said.
Bad peach blossoms, guilt feelings…
Wasn’t this it?
Alicia was never superstitious.
But she was definitely someone who listened to advice and was cautious.
So, the motion of taking her phone halted, and she instead drew out a business card from the cardholder by her side.
Handing the business card to him, Alicia’s demeanor turned aloof and noble.
“This is my personal assistant. Any requests, you can directly contact her, and she’ll find you the best hand model. I will cover all the costs.”
With that, she no longer gave him the chance to speak further, turned around, got in her car, and drove away.
Boy: …??
