Chapter 418: Chapter 418 Scarlett Jennings’s Method

Alice Loomis appeared completely natural, as though she were a genuine member of the Jennings Family.

It was evident that her relationship with Grandma Jennings had advanced rapidly during her days back at the academy.

Scarlett Jennings said nothing, merely nodded slightly toward Grandma Jennings before leading Nathan White into the house.

Uncle Ming, having already been informed that Nathan White would be staying at the house for two days, had ahead of time prepared a room for him.

Lucas Jennings heard the commotion above and almost immediately bolted downstairs.

"Sis! You’re back?!"

The boy gazed at Scarlett with eager eyes before finally noticing Nathan White. Casually, he greeted him,

"Brother White, you’re here too? Perfect timing—Dashiell and I are teaming up later. Want to join? We just happen to need one more healer."

Nathan White looked at him, somewhat bewildered.

Scarlett Jennings remained quiet for a moment before speaking, "The kind of healing you need is quite different from Nathan’s specialty."

Lucas responded matter-of-factly, "Healing is healing, isn’t it? Medical skills are universal."

His tone brooked no dissent as he essentially assumed Nathan’s agreement without waiting for a response and then leaned in closer to Scarlett, speaking in a conspiratorial tone,

"Sis, did you notice that person next to Grandma?"

Scarlett shot him a glance, "I saw."

"Do you think Grandma’s losing her marbles? Did she not learn her lesson with Azura Loomis? Sis, you should check if they’ve cursed her in some way!"

Lucas spoke with visible concern.

Scarlett shook her head, "You’re overthinking it. There’s no curse involved."

To her, the elderly woman simply enjoyed stepping into the same hole twice for no apparent reason.

"Even so, it’s irritating,"

Lucas grumbled, "Sis, should we think up a plan to kick her out? Summon a Big Ghost to scare her away?"

Lucas clearly felt annoyed; first Azura Loomis, and now Alice Loomis—it felt to him like Grandma Jennings had officially lost her mind.

And his brother.

"Oh yeah, my brother’s acting strange too. Lately, he’s been unreasonably nice to an ugly girl,"

When Lucas said the words "ugly girl," he deliberately lowered his voice; after all, Chase Jennings had scolded him for being shallow and disrespectful before when he made similar remarks.

But seriously, this Ava Zimmerman was undeniably unattractive—Lucas felt he was simply stating a fact.

Sure, Ava had helped his brother before, but it wasn’t as though she’d saved his life. Was that really a reason to go to such extravagant lengths for her?

His sister, a bona fide life-saving benefactor, didn’t even enjoy such devotion.

First, it was overseeing her career, then buying clothes and supplements for her. He even invited her over for dinner at their home.

Oh, and word was that he’d been reaching out to a famous plastic surgeon over the past two days, supposedly to help Ava with skin grafts and scar removal.

Mind you, the last time Chase had gone to such effort had been for Azura Loomis.

As his younger sibling, Lucas genuinely started feeling worried about his foolish older brother.

When Scarlett Jennings heard him use the words "ugly girl," her expression shifted slightly as she instinctively recalled the male ghost from the eighteenth floor describing that girl.

But whether it was her or not still needed confirmation.

Shaking her thoughts away, Scarlett simply replied, "You don’t need to scare Grandma. She won’t let Alice Loomis come around again."

Lucas perked up instantly, "Sis, do you have a plan?!"

"Not exactly a plan. You’ll know soon enough if it works,"

Scarlett didn’t elaborate further, leaving Lucas behind as she led Nathan White to settle down and unpack.

By lunchtime, Alice Loomis was conspicuously absent.

Perhaps understanding that the family still harbored grievances toward the Loomis Family, Grandma Jennings had let Alice Loomis into the house but hadn’t offered her a seat or saved her a meal.

At the dining table, Nathan White, on the other hand, joined the meal.

Grandma Jennings treated Nathan White—the "Divine Doctor" who had cured her—with the utmost politeness and hospitality, going so far as to order a lavish spread of dishes.

But toward Scarlett Jennings, Grandma’s attitude remained slightly awkward.

On one hand, she was worried Scarlett would hold a grudge against Alice Loomis; on the other, she felt as an elder she didn’t need the approval of a younger member to decide whom she could favor or protect.

The lunch felt like an exercise in passive aggression.

Lucas Jennings kept his eyes peeled for any sign of Scarlett Jennings’s so-called solution.

Yet when the meal concluded and Scarlett remained tight-lipped, he became visibly impatient.

Fortunately, Scarlett didn’t leave him waiting for long.

After the meal, everyone gathered in the living room for tea as usual, and it was only then that Scarlett finally broke her silence, seemingly without much fanfare, addressing Grandma Jennings directly,

"Grandma, there’s something I meant to tell you earlier but forgot."

With Scarlett’s voice cutting through the air, everyone’s ears immediately perked up, attuned to her words.

After all, Scarlett had expended great effort to clean up the mess left behind by Azura Loomis.

The family assumed Scarlett would object to Grandma Jennings’s decision to accept another member of the Loomis Family.

While no one verbalized this expectation, all were silently anticipating it.

And here it was.

What had been a casual tea gathering suddenly became charged with tension as everyone instinctively sat up straighter in their seats; even Grandma Jennings inadvertently tightened her expression.

Bracing herself in case Scarlett objected to her dealings with the Loomis Family, Grandma resolved to firmly defend her stance.

After all, no matter how capable Scarlett might be, she was still younger. She had no business meddling with an elder’s prerogatives.

Unless...

She changed her tone and called me Grandma in a respectful way!

As Grandma Jennings mulled this over, she heard Scarlett speak again. Her tone was measured, deliberate, without haste,

"According to the Security Bureau’s interrogation findings, Azura Loomis had been stealing people’s fortune by cultivating goodwill from others for quite some time. For those whose fortune was stolen, such as Chase..."

Scarlett gestured toward Chase Jennings seated nearby, using him as an example,

"They would experience phases of bad luck, financial losses, injuries—all indicators of diminished fortune."

Chase Jennings: ...

Why is this suddenly about me??

Scarlett paid no heed to Chase Jennings’s darkening expression and continued matter-of-factly,

"There’s another symptom associated with fortune loss: a decline in health, though in younger individuals, it might not be as noticeable."

By this point, Scarlett deliberately paused, causing those present to instinctively glance at Grandma Jennings.

Given the emphasis on young people, the next focus had to be the elderly.

How would health decline manifest in older individuals?

Grandma Jennings felt her chest seize with unease, an ominous feeling sweeping over her.

Scarlett wasted no time in getting straight to the point, declaring bluntly,

"Grandma’s sudden loss of sensation in her legs, leaving her unable to walk, was the direct result of Azura Loomis stealing her fortune."

As soon as the words left Scarlett’s mouth, the living room became heavier, as though every Jennings Family member were holding their breath.

Grandma Jennings froze in disbelief before jolting upright, blurting out,

"What did you say?!"

Perhaps due to her abrupt movement—or the shock—Grandma Jennings staggered, nearly toppling forward.

Thankfully, Adam and Blaise Jennings hurriedly steadied her, helping her settle back into her seat.

While the room’s occupants glanced at Grandma Jennings with concern, Scarlett Jennings remained unmoved in her spot.

It took Grandma Jennings a while to compose herself again, but her face reflected lingering disbelief. She turned, fixing her gaze on Scarlett with fierce intensity,

"Everything you said... Is it true??"

The years she spent unable to walk—were they all because of Azura Loomis?!

Had the person she had cherished and treated affectionately deceived her from the very beginning?

She even had been profoundly touched by Azura’s attentive care during those years.

Even upon learning of her schemes, she hadn’t forgotten the so-called companionship Azura had provided.

But now, it seemed all of that care and companionship had been nothing but lies?

"Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!"
