The Fake Heiress Turns Out to Be a True Tycoon!-Chapter 385: Demon King, The Scheming Dog
Chapter 385: Chapter 385: Demon King, The Scheming Dog
"Heh heh."
Donovan Jennings suddenly chuckled softly beside them, and somehow, there was a hint of a deeper meaning in that laughter.
He already saw through it.
Samuel Chalmers’ outfit today was unmistakably trying to... look younger!
Ha, this Demon King, such a schemer!
Samuel met Donovan’s gaze head-on, without dodging or avoiding it, showing not the slightest hint of awkwardness about being caught pretending to be younger—it was as if he didn’t care at all.
Meanwhile, Lucas Jennings bolted up the moment Samuel opened his mouth and sprinted outside like a whirlwind.
"I’m going to get my sister!"
His sister had a date today!
No way, he had to check on her quickly—can’t let his future brother-in-law wait too long.
Lucas had just reached the staircase when he saw Scarlett Jennings already coming down from upstairs.
Upon seeing her outfit, Lucas couldn’t help but exclaim immediately,
"Sis! You look amazing in that!"
Samuel heard Lucas’s loud declaration, and his heart skipped a beat. When he heard footsteps approaching, he finally stood up slowly and turned his head.
Scarlett was wearing an oil painting-style outfit—a tailored two-piece set. The design on the upper half was relatively simple, while the bottom half boasted bright and lively colors. The skirt hugged her waistline and hips just perfectly, showcasing her long legs, pale and straight.
The design was minimalistic but striking enough, giving off a sense of formality compared to her usual casual attire.
Brianna Jennings immediately recognized Scarlett’s outfit as her brand’s latest summer collection. At first glance, she thought it suited her niece perfectly.
Scarlett certainly looked stunning, but as she reached Samuel’s side, Brianna’s gaze turned subtly complex.
Clearly, these two young people had mismatched styles today.
Samuel noticed it too.
On the other hand, Scarlett didn’t seem to have given it much thought.
She had only arranged this meal with the big boss to make sure he had a proper, relaxing dinner, but Scarlett also wanted to formally thank him.
Since it was a formal meeting, she couldn’t just dress casually like she usually did.
However, dressing up overly formally in a cocktail dress felt too rigid.
After much deliberation, she opted for this outfit.
But judging by his attire today, the big boss seemed to have gone for a more laid-back look?
Despite his ensemble gleaming in golden light, it didn’t prevent her from noticing the casual nature of his outfit.
So, was Samuel deliberately toning down his usual style to match hers?
Donovan, upon observing their entirely disparate styles compared to their usual looks, understood right away. He lowered his head and couldn’t help but suppress a chuckle.
Samuel and his sister had some mutual understanding, though clearly not much.
The result of trying to adapt to each other’s preferences was decidedly mismatched styles in reverse.
Although Donovan’s expression carried a teasing smile, there was a quiet sense of relief in his heart.
At least Samuel was willing to make adjustments for Scarlett, which earned Donovan’s grudging approval of this "future brother-in-law."
After all, knowing Samuel’s personality, doing something to this extent already signified genuine intent.
Donovan didn’t mind his sister dating, but he didn’t want her partner to have a personality that required constant compromise from Scarlett.
Scarlett, however, didn’t dwell on it. After exchanging simple greetings with her family, she followed Samuel out the door.
As she got into the car, she turned to ask him directly,
"Why aren’t you wearing a suit today?"
Her curiosity was understandable—Scarlett had never seen Samuel dressed this casually since they met, whether it had been outside or at the Chalmers estate. He was always impeccably dressed.
The only time she saw him wearing anything different was a few days ago—when he had fainted, of course.
He had been wearing pajamas then.
Samuel paused for just a moment before replying calmly, "Got tired of them."
"...Oh."
Well, she got tired of her casual clothes too.
The two went to a well-known high-end restaurant in the city.
The main reason Scarlett had picked this restaurant was that the dishes were exquisite and delicious, plus the environment was supposed to be tranquil.
However, once they arrived, Scarlett discovered that the ambiance was perhaps... a little too tranquil.
"No one here?"
Scarlett was taken aback.
Wasn’t this restaurant supposed to have great reviews?
Why was it dinner hour, yet there was hardly anyone in sight?
Not even many staff were visible in the lobby.
Samuel remained perfectly composed.
When the restaurant manager approached them, his manner was exceptionally polite and gracious, "Mr. Chalmers, Miss Jennings, this way please."
He promptly led them to a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
From this angle, they could overlook the entire city’s nightscape.
Scarlett hadn’t deliberately chosen this specific spot; it just seemed like a space with a broader view.
Maybe, just maybe, Samuel would eat more in a setting like this.
Once their order had been placed, the restaurant remained empty. As the dishes were served, Scarlett examined the lavish spread before her—particularly the cake adorned with dazzling fireworks—and began to sense that something was off.
"I don’t think I ordered this."
To be precise, this style of cake hadn’t even appeared on the menu earlier.
Samuel remained as composed as ever, responding, "Mm, I had the kitchen make it specially."
He had learned from Luca Jennings’ social media posts that Scarlett liked this kind of thing.
Samuel had been planning this meal as a proper outing for the two of them.
After all, he was officially her boyfriend now, and if they kept the same casual dynamic as before, even Donovan would start thinking he wasn’t taking Scarlett seriously.
What he hadn’t anticipated was that she’d be the one to initiate their dinner.
Nonetheless, it didn’t prevent him from being proactive with preparations.
Although the cake was different, the fireworks were exactly the same.
If Scarlett still didn’t understand what was going on by now, she’d truly be a fool. Sitting up a little straighter, she eyed Samuel and asked,
"Samuel Chalmers, did you book this entire restaurant?"
She hadn’t experienced something like this before but knew that wealthy people sometimes did this sort of thing.
That said, she couldn’t quite grasp his reasoning.
This kind of extravagance didn’t seem to fit with the big boss’s usual style.
If Donovan were listening to her thoughts right now, he would probably burst out laughing.
If Samuel Chalmers weren’t one for extravagance, he wouldn’t have twelve identical Maybachs in his garage.
Samuel’s level of grandeur was something you couldn’t even begin to fathom.
At this moment, Samuel met Scarlett’s clear gaze with an unexpectedly calm expression. His deep black eyes showed no ripple as he said briefly,
"I enjoy peace and quiet."
Scarlett: ...
During that meal at the film studio, you didn’t seem to mind sharing the space with others.
Perhaps sensing the doubt in her eyes, Samuel added,
"The film studio had private rooms."
Scarlett made an "oh" sound—barely accepting the explanation.
But then she pointed at the cake before them. "And this?"
Samuel looked at her, posed no direct answer, and instead asked, "You don’t like it?"
Scarlett: ...
Scarlett was certain she had never mentioned liking firework cakes before, but since the big boss said she liked it... then, sure, she’d like it.
Inwardly, Scarlett suddenly had a peculiar suspicion:
Could it be that the big boss himself liked it but was just too shy to admit it?
If that were the case...
Scarlett decided she was okay with taking the fall for him.
