Chapter 381: Chapter 381: You’re Taking Advantage of the Situation to Rob Money

Donovan’s grandmother froze upon hearing those words—not just because of Scarlett Jennings’s statement, but also because of how she addressed her as "Donovan’s grandmother."

This seemed to be the first time Scarlett used such a distant term directly in addressing her.

In that moment, Donovan’s grandmother felt like her very soul had been gripped by something.

A little uncomfortable.

And perhaps... a touch of regret.

She was her biological grandmother after all.

How had she become just "Donovan’s grandmother"?

Scarlett—was she still holding resentment toward her? freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

For a moment, Donovan’s grandmother was so stifled she didn’t even know what to say.

Seeing her silence, Scarlett added casually but deliberately,

"Let me just mention, even though those two are ghost servants, they’re not without their own tempers. If they hear anything unpleasant in the future, they might throw tantrums and play a few tricks. Under such circumstances, I probably won’t be able to stop them."

Donovan’s grandmother: ...

After calling her "Donovan’s grandmother," she had now begun openly threatening her?

Donovan’s grandmother felt her soul body wobble once again.

This granddaughter...

A granddaughter like her—how could she possibly spoil her?!

Scarlett didn’t care about her reaction.

Rather than trying to persuade and win others over, Scarlett Jennings preferred wielding her strength for coercion.

She didn’t need Donovan’s grandmother to act like a doting grandma to her filial granddaughter.

She simply needed her to be cautious—not to casually meddle in her affairs. Maintaining a strict boundary was the best way for them to coexist.

"Alright, alright, I won’t comment about you anymore from now on!"

Though Donovan’s grandmother still felt stifled, she responded with exasperation, yet her whole soul body visibly settled down.

This was also thanks to Donovan Jennings preparing a separate room earlier; otherwise, the two of them would never have been able to converse this way.

But seeing the desired effect, Scarlett was quite satisfied.

"By the way, for helping restore a living soul to its proper place this time, I’ll be taking an additional fee. Considering our family ties, I’ll settle for five million."

"What?! Five mi—"

Donovan’s grandmother couldn’t suppress an exclamation, but before she could finish, Scarlett raised her hand and set a talisman into motion.

"Golden decree, jade text assigned..."

Muttering a spell under her breath, Scarlett flung the talisman swiftly toward the immobilized body of Donovan’s grandmother.

Earlier, she had made arrangements to bring Donovan’s grandmother’s body, along with the living soul occupying it, to this place.

The talisman landed squarely on Donovan’s grandmother’s chest. As Scarlett shouted a clear command, Donovan’s grandmother, who inhabited a doll, let out a shriek. An elderly living soul was forcibly extracted from her body.

Before she could clearly observe that living soul’s appearance, it was abruptly yanked by some unseen force, darting toward the window.

Sophie Harper and the ghost infant, prepared in advance, dashed forward, one on each side, clutching the soul body tightly.

"Don’t even think about running!"

Seizing the moment, Scarlett deployed a jade token. Under Sophie Harper and the ghost infant’s restraint, she directly sealed the living soul inside the jade token.

She had always been curious about where Hestia Knight’s living soul had gone.

When she exposed Hestia’s usurpation of Ianthe Lawson’s body and forced her confession with the Truth Talisman, Scarlett had been too focused on sealing the fleeing system energy to pay attention to Hestia’s actions afterward.

Later, when investigating further, there was no trace of Hestia’s soul body anymore.

Generally, a living soul doesn’t return to its proper place automatically.

Hestia’s disappearance felt as though she had never existed.

It bore a mysterious resemblance to what had happened to her own master before.

Scarlett wanted to figure out whether there was some connection here.

The Evil God System was now gone, but what had just tried to pull away the departing soul from its body?

Scarlett felt that if she could uncover this, she might be able to find clues about her master.

Thankfully, she currently had two experimental subjects.

After successfully capturing one living soul, Scarlett quickly extracted Donovan’s grandmother’s soul from the doll and returned it to its original body.

Finishing that task, Scarlett didn’t concern herself with how Donovan’s grandmother felt. She turned and gestured to her fox companion.

"Foxie Cutie, next one."

Foxie Cutie acknowledged the order. Its eyes shimmered brightly as it darted off without hesitation.

About ten minutes later, the fox returned, dragging back a somewhat filthy Chase Jennings doll.

A closer look revealed its paws weren’t entirely clean either.

Scarlett was curious about what Foxie Cutie had done to mess with the doll. She dispelled the residual system-backed energy concealment.

What she saw was Chase being trapped inside the doll, looking rather miserable. He was muttering to himself.

"That damn fox... it nearly dug a hole to bury me just now!"

The pit had been wet and foul-smelling; Chase suspected it might have buried him alongside its urine!

Donovan’s grandmother had only just returned to her body and hadn’t yet regained her strength. For some reason, upon reentering her body, she could temporarily hear Chase’s voice.

She was about to ask about Chase’s situation when suddenly Chase noticed Donovan’s grandmother’s doll lying on the floor. He immediately shouted,

"Grandma! Grandma! What happened to you?"

Not realizing the doll’s living soul had been removed and that it was now just an ordinary doll, Chase grew increasingly frantic at the lack of response.

"Grandma, answer me! What happened to you?"

He then turned his frustration toward Scarlett, demanding answers.

"Scarlett! What did you do to Grandma? She’s your actual grandmother—no matter how upset you are, you shouldn’t have taken it out on her! If there’s any issue, you should’ve come for me instead!"

Donovan’s grandmother was relieved to still be able to hear Chase’s voice. Seeing Scarlett’s indifferent posture and lack of intention to explain, she couldn’t stay silent despite still feeling weak from reentry into her body.

Struggling to speak, she said, "Don’t... don’t yell anymore. I’m here."

She waved weakly to him.

Chase noticed her at last, resting on a couch not far behind Scarlett. For a moment, he still hesitated.

"Grandma?"

"It’s me," Donovan’s grandmother replied weakly.

Chase visibly relaxed, but his relief quickly gave way to excitement.

Once he confirmed Donovan’s grandmother had returned to her rightful body, Chase turned to Scarlett. His tone shifted a complete 180 degrees,

"Scarlett, was it you who returned Grandma to her body? I knew you weren’t someone who disregards family bonds. Scarlett, I promise you—once I’m back in my own body, I won’t go against you anymore. I’ll treat you as my real little sister!"

Chase’s sudden change of attitude was so abrupt it was as though the accusatory words he just uttered weren’t spoken by him.

Donovan’s grandmother listened, feeling entirely speechless.

She hadn’t realized before just how quick her grandson could switch face expressions.

Still, he was her grandson through shared trials and tribulations, so Donovan’s grandmother instinctively glanced at Scarlett with a pleading look.

Scarlett didn’t even spare her a glance, nor did she respond to Chase’s declarations. She simply raised her hand, pulling out a talisman, and coldly quoted a price,

"Eight million. I’ll help you return to your original body."

Chase: ...

This is clearly extortion!

Donovan’s grandmother: Eight million for him, five million for me... Seems like Scarlett still has some affection for me as her grandmother.

Well, at least it’s slightly more than she has for Chase.
