Bringing Kyra inside of the building, I knelt beside her, assessing her injuries more closely. Her leg was definitely broken, the skin around the surrounding break was already turning an angry purple, but apart from that the head wound had mostly stopped bleeding, but it would need cleaning to prevent anymore infection from spreading.

"Okay, I can’t fix the break, but I might be able to ease the pain a bit and stop the swelling. Is it okay if I use some magic on you?"

I spoke as if I was trying to sound more confident to cheer her up but truthfully I haven’t practiced anything related to healing magic, so I’m just going to wing it in all honesty.

Kyra hesitated for a moment, her eyes searching mine. Finally, she gave a small nod. "Okay... I trust you."

Her words sent a pang through my chest. She trusted me, and here I was, hiding the truth about my objective.

But I pushed that guilt aside.

I placed my hands gently on her injured leg, closing my eyes to focus. I had never actually attempted healing magic before, but I knew the theory. I visualized the flow of mana through her body, seeking out the damaged areas.

As I concentrated, I felt a warmth building in my palms. A soft blue glow emanated from my hands, enveloping Kyra’s leg.

"It’s... warm," Kyra murmured, surprise evident in her voice.

I opened my eyes, watching as the swelling around her leg began to visibly reduce. The angry purple bruising faded slightly, though it didn’t disappear completely. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.

"How does that feel?" I asked, moving my hands away.

Kyra flexed her foot cautiously.

"The pain... it’s less. Thank you, Julian."

I nodded, relieved that I had managed to help even a little. But as I looked at her, I knew we weren’t out of danger yet.

Because someone was outside the window watching us.

WHOOSH!

[Divine Eyes of Convergence Has Activated!]

Before I could react, a gleaming spear of water crashed through the window, shattering glass and spraying shards across the room.

I didn’t have any time to waste, I could see the trajectory of each glass shard, the individual droplets of water that made up the spear.

The attack was definitely smart, if I wasn’t on my feet the entire time, I might’ve slipped up and Kyra would’ve been gone.

However, what this person doesn’t realize is that my body is sturdier than that of the average child.

I lunge forward, positioning myself between Kyra and the incoming attack.

BAM!

The water spear slammed into my back with bone-jarring force, but I managed to stay upright, shielding Kyra from both the attack and the shower of glass.

All things considered, it didn’t hurt too much, if I were to describe it, the feeling was like getting playfully punched in the arm.

Carefully, I spun around to face our attacker, my eyes still glowing with the power of Divine Eyes.

There, standing in the shattered window frame with a snake-like smile on his face, was Cullen Von Dexter.

"So the hero who saves this girl from ruin is you?"

Cullen smirked as his eyes looked at me with malice.

That elemental attack from earlier was one of his signature attacks, Serpent’s Spear.

Thankfully, he was yet to master it, so I could say I was lucky, however if there was anyone with him right now we’re in trouble.

"Julian, are you okay?!"

"I’m fine," Julian assured Kyra, keeping his eyes locked on Cullen.

"Stay back and don’t move."

Kyra’s concern for him rocketed after the attack. Seeing Julian struck down, even momentarily, ignited a fear within her that she hadn’t acknowledged until this point.

The fact that he had taken that attack with his body showed how much he was willing to do just to protect her.

She couldn’t understand why he would go to all the lengths to do such a thing.

Her mind was even trying to piece all the reasons for his intentions, however, her heart felt like it was telling her something else.

Cullen chuckled, laughing from across the building, standing tall on the roof.

"How touching. The weakling trying to protect another weakling. But I’m afraid your little adventure ends here."

"Is that so?"

Julian took a defensive stance, and he began to observe Cullen’s movements closely to ensure anything he would throw at him would be stopped without harming Kyra.

He knew that if he were to attack Cullen carelessly, Kyra could be caught in the crossfire.

He had to be precise and calculated, ensuring every move he made protected them both.

"I can make you a deal here, if you leave that girl behind, we’ll spare you the effort for your elimination. You can run away while you’re at it and when the end of the games come, we can let you go without any hard feelings,"

Julian’s eyes narrowed at Cullen’s offer. He knew it was a trap even if he agreed, Cullen would likely attack him, anyway.

But more importantly, the very thought of abandoning Kyra made his blood boil.

"Not a chance... If you want her so badly, try and get through me first."

KEKE…

Cullen’s smirk widened.

"I was hoping you’d say that. It’s so much more fun when they resist."

With a flick of his wrist, Cullen summoned another water spear, this one larger and more menacing than the last.

"Last chance, hero. Step aside, or get eliminated."

Julian didn’t budge. He could feel Kyra trembling behind him, her breath coming in short, panicked gasps.

He wanted to reassure her, to tell her everything would be okay, but he couldn’t take his eyes off Cullen for even a second.

"Fuck off,"

"Tch, damn bastard commoner!"

With a snarl, he launched the massive water spear directly at Julian.

Julian’s eyes flashed as he watched the massive water spear hurtle towards him. With his Divine Eyes activated, he could see its trajectory in perfect detail.
