As I slowly opened my eyes, I took in my surroundings. I was lying in a comfortable, soft bed with white sheets and pillows.

I looked towards the side of the room and I could see my mother was resting well in her own bed.

If I were to call that a long dream... or update, I remembered that the Goddess’s name is actually Freya. It wasn’t a bad name, and I had little to really be complaining about it.

_______

The first one was expected - a reward for defeating Bonrick. But the second...

My eyes kept returning to those three choices, each one feeling like a punch to the gut.

Save Ophelia Florence. Kill Ophelia Florence. Or do nothing and let fate run its course.

I knew what happened in the original story. Lady Ophelia died, poisoned by those she trusted. Her death set off a chain of events that shaped Diana’s character and drove much of the plot.

If I saved her, how much would change? And if I killed her myself...the thought made me sick.

But could I really stand by and do nothing, knowing what was coming?

I closed my eyes, trying to calm my thoughts. This was too much responsibility for a five-year-old, reincarnated or not. I wished I could just ignore it all, go back to sleep and pretend I was just a normal kid.

But I couldn’t. Not anymore.

*

1 month later…

A month had passed since we arrived at the Florence estate.

Despite my initial anxiety, life here had settled into a comfortable routine.

My mother continued her duties as a maid, while Ezekiel and I spent our days exploring the grounds and entertaining ourselves in the training rooms, as well as studying in the library.

Nivel, true to his word, had been keeping a watchful eye on the comings and goings of the estate.

His presence seemed to deter some of the more suspicious visitors, though Count Ralador and his ilk continued to make regular appearances.

As for Lady Ophelia, her condition remained stable but fragile.

I often saw my mother rushing to and from the Marchioness’ room for most of it.

Though I couldn’t stop being reminded of the quest that I had.

I knew keeping her alive would make a massive turn for Diana’s development, and I’m still unsure whether doing nothing is the right thing to do.

"Julian, are you spacing off again?"

WOOOSH!

Swiping his hand in a slashing motion, Ezekiel unleashed a wind bladed attack.

"…!"

BAM…

I was able to dodge without much trouble.

"Nice reflexes!"

Ezekiel grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"But you’re not getting away that easily!"

He launched into another barrage of attacks and wind blades continued to run through the air.

I weaved and dodged, seeing each path’s trajectory with ease.

"Er... how do you keep dodging?!"

Despite the intensity of our sparring sessions, I enjoyed these moments with Ezekiel.

His enthusiasm was infectious, and it helped take my mind off the heavier concerns weighing on me.

"You’ll hit me, eventually..."

"That does it!"

RAH!

As we continued our mock battle, I couldn’t help but be amazed of how much Ezekiel had improved over the past month.

His control over wind magic was becoming more refined and, with his attacks, they were getting much sharper and more precise.

As for me, I’ve been in a bit of a rut trying to figure out what skills are necessary for survival in this world, especially with only 2000 SP to my name.

But I’m hopeful that I’ll figure it out soon enough in the days to come.

WHOOSH!

A particularly strong gust caught me off guard, sending me stumbling backwards.

I regained my footing quickly, but Ezekiel seized the opportunity.

"I’ve got you now!"

He yelled, his glowing hand leading to the magical charge.

Time seemed to slow as I watched him approach.

At that moment, I felt a familiar tingle at the back of my mind.

[Divine Eyes of Convergence has activated!]

Suddenly, I could see every detail of Ezekiel’s movement, the subtle shifts in his stance, the flow of mana through his body, the exact trajectory of his attack.

Without thinking, I shifted my weight, preparing to counter.

BAM!

I knocked Ezekiel down with a single punch, and he laid on the ground gasping for air.

"Ah… my stomach… you win Julian…"

10 Minutes later...

As we finished our usual morning spar, Ezekiel looked at me breaking the usual silence we had after a spar.

"Julian, have you noticed anything... strange lately?"

I took the towel off my face and turned towards him.

"Strange how?"

Ezekiel glanced around, as if checking for eavesdroppers, before leaning in close.

"I overheard Mr. Nivel talking to your mom last night. They seemed really worried about something. And..." he hesitated, lowering his voice even further, "I think I saw someone sneaking around Lady Ophelia’s room last night."

"...!"

I felt a chill run down my spine.

So it’s happening already. The pieces were falling into place, just as they had in the novel.

"Did you tell anyone?"

Ezekiel shook his head.

"I wasn’t sure what I saw. But Julian, I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Something’s not right here."

Before I could respond, the double doors bursted open, and I saw my mom’s face filled with the expression of fear.
