The Extra Villain's Second Chance: A Hero's System-Chapter 20 - 19 - Future Ex-Fiancé
Chapter 20 - 19 - Future Ex-Fiancé
In one of the guest rooms within the Razanov family mansion, two individuals sat on chairs. Since they were in the guest room, it was clear that they were visitors, not members of the Razanov family.
They sat facing each other.
One was a girl about the same age as Lev, while the other was a middle-aged man. They were father and daughter.
If you were wondering why a father and daughter were waiting in the guest room, the answer was that they were the only guests invited to Lev's coming-of-age ceremony who hadn't left immediately after Andrei announced the cancellation of the event.
"How long do we have to wait here, Father?" the girl asked in a soft, low voice.
"We can't leave just yet. Besides the fact that our home is too far away, you know very well that we can't return empty-handed, right?"
When she heard her father's explanation, the girl slumped dejectedly. She recalled the outcome of Lev's coming-of-age ceremony. "Given the results of Young Master Lev's ceremony, what will happen to my engagement with him, Father?"
Hearing his daughter's despondent tone, the stern-faced middle-aged man furrowed his brows.
The two were father and daughter from the Taranin family. The father's name was Marquess Mikhail, and the daughter's name was Elizavet.
According to the original plan, after attending Lev's coming-of-age ceremony, they intended to discuss the engagement between Elizavet and Lev. However, upon hearing that Lev had a trash-level mana pool, Mikhail was forced to reconsider.
"You probably already know this, but it's now impossible for you to be engaged to Lev."
"... But isn't it common knowledge that Lev is my intended fiancé?"
"Consider that common knowledge never exists in the first place. You understand our family's situation, don't you? It's unthinkable for me to marry you off to trash like him."
"...."
"Regardless, even though Duke Razanov is known for his incompetence, we must still maintain a relationship with the Razanov family." Mikhail stood up and walked to the window. As he looked outside, he said, "How about you get engaged to Andrei's other son? Doesn't Lev have a younger brother?"
Hearing her father's words, Elizavet lifted her head, which had been hanging low.
Her light blue bangs, which had been covering her eyes, now fell to the sides, revealing her wide, teary eyes.
Elizavet's thoughts were written all over her face. She was shocked by what her father had said. As if unwilling to believe it, she asked, "Did I hear you correctly, Father?!"
Elizavet and Lev were childhood friends. They had often met at noble gatherings in the capital. It was no wonder she was so stunned by her father's words.
Although Elizavet's family didn't reside in the capital, she frequently visited alone as her family's representative.
The Taranin family was renowned as one of the pillars protecting the Dragomirov Kingdom. As such, the marquess spent most of his time in his territory at the western edge of the kingdom.
However, this was different for Elizavet. From a young age, she had been her family's representative at noble gatherings in the capital.
During her time representing her family in the capital, Lev had often provided her with free accommodation and meals.
It was from these interactions that the common knowledge of their intended engagement had arisen.
"You must understand. This is for the sake of the people in our territory, you know. If you have no further objections, I'll discuss this matter with Duke Razanov later."
Once again, Elizavet lowered her head upon hearing her father's explanation.
Her bangs once again covered her beautiful face.
Not long after, a servant approached them and informed them that a bedroom had been prepared for their stay.
Mikhail acknowledged this and decided to postpone the discussion about the engagement until the next day.
As Mikhail turned to follow the servant out of the room, he heard a loud Crash! His eyes widened in surprise, and his stern face contorted.
The guest room where Mikhail and Elizavet were staying was on the second floor, while the noise came from the first floor. The building they were in was also separate from the source of the crash. Despite this, Mikhail could pinpoint the source of the commotion when he looked out the window.
Elizavet, who had also heard the noise, quickly looked out the window. When she saw what was happening, she placed her hand on her chest.
"It seems I must retract my earlier statement." Mikhail placed his hands behind his back and muttered softly to Elizavet.
A look of astonishment was plastered across Mikhail's face.
The person the father and daughter saw was Lev.
Lev was seen pushing Boris's body through a glass wall and then holding him hostage.
If it had ended there, Mikhail wouldn't have reconsidered the engagement between his daughter and Lev.
What made him retract his words was Lev daring to fight sixteen full-armored soldiers alone.
'Let's see how far that boy can go. If he can take down half of them, it means his path as a warrior is promising, which would make the engagement with Elizavet viable... but, how could they fight? There was no way Duke Razanov didn't know.'
Mikhail watched with an anticipatory expression.
Beside him, Elizavet's expression turned into one of worry.
And so, the entertainment began.

Gulp!
The sound of Boris swallowing the Letharis pill echoed.
With the pill now ingested, Boris's face turned pale. He seemed to understand what was about to happen to him—he would lose the chance to create a Mana Pool. His future was ruined, and he would forever be trash.
"Enjoy the suffering you'll endure for the rest of your life."
After whispering these threatening words with a tone and expression reminiscent of when he whispered sweet nothings, Lev chopped Boris's neck with his hand. He aimed for the area below the jaw, right at the carotid artery, causing Boris to pass out instantly.
Lev wasn't leaving Boris without any options. In fact, there was another way to gain strength without awakening a mana pool. One could even automatically become a knight-level warrior and awaken Aura.
Enlightenment. That's what it was called.
'Just like me in my previous life.'
However, all of that depended on how much effort Boris was willing to put in, and luck.
"Now, it's time for the main course."
Lev stood up and pulled the sword embedded in the ground beside Boris's neck.
The first thing he did was assess his opponents, who stood in formation behind him.

Most of them were as Lev had expected. Their stats were generally lower than his.
However, they all had higher mana stats than him.
From what he understood, the difference between an ordinary human and a novice-level warrior was that novice-level warriors could enhance their physical abilities using mana. As for why they didn't have any skills yet, it was because they hadn't had the opportunity to learn them.
Unlike Lev, who had been taught swordsmanship from a young age through noble-exclusive books and knight instructors, they were just ordinary people lucky enough to become Razanov family soldiers.
'There's one who's above average, though.'
