The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 773 Liu Banxia’s Medical Knowledge Mini-classroom
"Brother Liu, you were amazing! But it seems a bit different from the time you saved that driver, doesn't it?" Qiu Mingyuan asked, having declined the crowd's thanks as they walked away.
"Each case is different. Last time, the driver had just collapsed when we found him, so we had some methods to alleviate the situation. Remember we lifted his leg? That was to improve blood circulation," explained Liu Banxia. "But for this elderly gentleman, his son, though well-intentioned, was holding him in a way that caused some issues. That, coupled with the delay, meant he had already gone into cardiac arrest, so there was no other option."
"Haha, you were truly amazing back there. One punch, and the man was alive," said Qiu Mingyuan.
"That was just luck. Non-professionals should never try to imitate that. Even professionals can make a fatal mistake," Liu Banxia replied. "Didn't you hear me? I fractured the old man's sternum. Hopefully, that's the extent of his injuries. We'll see how he is; he might need a stent."
"A stent is still better than losing his life. Anyway, you were absolutely brilliant back there," Qiu Mingyuan said.
"By the way, why did you come over? Where's Qiaoqiao?" asked Liu Banxia.
"Sister Qiaoqiao is still waiting at the store. The two cart-pullers followed you, so I came along to see what was happening," Qiu Mingyuan said.
Looking at the dogs ahead, leashes in their mouths, essentially walking themselves, Liu Banxia was speechless. Weren't you two supposed to be pulling the cart? Why do you enjoy watching a commotion so much?
"How did it go? Is the man saved? I saw the ambulance wailing as it drove away," asked Qiaoqiao, munching on a pear happily after arriving at the supermarket. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"He's saved, more or less, but he still needs surgery at the hospital. Any qualified hospital nearby will do. Let's head home; we still need to prepare for the barbecue," Liu Banxia said, gesturing for them to come.
Tang Dou and Tiggie obediently ran to the cart filled with goods, preparing to pull it.
"Sister Qiaoqiao, you have no idea! Brother Liu was so cool saving that man just now. Lots of onlookers were praising Brother Liu," Qiu Mingyuan said while putting on the dogs' harnesses.
"Really? They were praising me too?" Liu Banxia chimed in humorously.
"Hahaha, of course they were praising you! When everyone saw the old man wasn't breathing, they all thought it was over. It's just that no one dared to disturb you," Qiu Mingyuan said. "Just you watch, your house will soon be filled with guests. With or without a reason, they'll all come to visit. In this large residential complex of ours, it seems like you're the only resident doctor, and such an amazing one at that."
"That's not entirely true. There's a clinic outside the complex, but it's quite a distance away. It's a much lower grade than the community hospital, so you can't count on it to look after everyone here."
"That's why, for households with elderly people, they should stock some emergency medicine. They can't just ignore this because there's no history of heart disease."
"Yes, yes, exactly! My dad bought several first-aid kits; we have them both upstairs and downstairs in our house," Qiu Mingyuan nodded in agreement.
"Haha, that's a great idea. Why don't you take Tang Dou and Tiggie for walks around the complex when you're free? Maybe you'll save a few more people," Qiaoqiao suggested cheerfully.
Liu Banxia pinched her nose. "There aren't that many people for me to save. Otherwise, who would dare to live in our residential complex anymore?"
"I don't care, you have to save them," Qiaoqiao declared, using her special privilege.
"Alright, alright, I'll save them. When there's nothing much to do, Ming Yuan can play the role of a patient," Liu Banxia said.
"Brother Liu, you can't just sacrifice me for Sister Qiaoqiao's sake like that," Qiu Mingyuan responded helplessly.
They chatted and laughed all the way, and many people proactively greeted Liu Banxia. This was the halo effect from the recent resuscitation effort, an aura that would last for at least a few days.
Qiaoqiao was truly happy now. She didn't care much when people praised her, but when they praised Liu Banxia? Oh, she felt on top of the world!
When they got back home, Qiu Huaili and his family, along with Doudou, also came over. Qiaoqiao then vividly recounted the rescue story she had heard from Qiu Mingyuan.
Although some parts were a bit exaggerated, neither Liu Banxia nor Qiu Mingyuan dared to correct her.
Are you kidding? Anyone who dared to interrupt would face Qiaoqiao's wrath. She was right in the middle of her enthusiastic storytelling; how could she allow anyone to randomly interject?
Though some parts were exaggerated, the fact that Liu Banxia had saved the man was undeniable.
Liu Banxia and his team often encountered patients in cardiac arrest at the hospital. Some were saved through CPR, others through defibrillators; one way or another, they managed to save them.
But for the average person? Those were legendary measures. Nobody kept a defibrillator at home to play with. Even Qiaoqiao, as a doctor's family member, felt that today's rescue was very impressive.
"Are you all busy? We heard Dr. Liu was here and even saved a life while grocery shopping, so we came to join in the fun. Is that okay?"
Just as they were busy, Lin Chenglin's family walked in.
"Please come in, we're all friends here. These two are Banxia's parents; they came to see Qiaoqiao," Qiao Xuezhi greeted warmly.
"Thank you so much! If it weren't for Dr. Liu last time, our Chenglin could have faced serious danger in the future," Old Lin hastily said.
"As Banxia would say, there's no need for thanks; it's his job as a doctor," Liu Qingdong said with a smile.
The mood was equally wonderful. They absolutely had to have a good meal for lunch.
"Brother Lin, let your kid play with Tang Dou and Tiggie. They're both very well-behaved. Doudou even bullies them sometimes for fun," Liu Banxia said.
"So, can I join you for a little drink at lunch today?" Lin Chenglin asked with a smile.
"Just not too much. It's hard not to drink at all," Liu Banxia replied.
"What happened with the family in Building 3 today? Did he suffer a heart attack just from being idle?" Lin Chenglin asked curiously.
"I think they were blowing up balloons. I saw several inflated balloons nearby, but I didn't see a pump," Liu Banxia said. "There are too many triggers for heart attacks; mood and exertion are both possibilities. And don't underestimate an activity like blowing up balloons. Too much effort can also increase the heart's burden."
"A healthy person might not experience any issues, but someone with heart disease could sometimes trigger an episode. However, it's not as scary as it sounds. Usually, just being a bit careful is enough."
"When I heard them say the man had stopped breathing and you brought him back with a punch, I couldn't sit still at home," Lin Chenglin said.
"That's quite an exaggeration. I just happened to be off duty today. It's not your day off either, is it? What brings you here?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Well... my time is my own, isn't it? Anyway, I've come to terms with things now; I'll live life however it feels best. Of course, the prerequisite is taking good care of my wife and kid," Lin Chenglin said. "The young man you told me about on the phone last time is quite good, very solid. After observing him for a few more months, he can be appropriately assigned some managerial work."
"Haha, that's one of my patient's boyfriends. I've met him a couple of times, so I just happened to mention him to you," Liu Banxia said. "So, how does everyone feel about the spice level? If there are no special requests, I'll decide. Ming Yuan, get the green beans and Chinese chives skewered. That's your job."
"Brother Liu, I can't guarantee other things, but this task? Absolutely no problem!" Qiu Mingyuan replied, then earnestly began washing the Chinese chives and green beans.
"I reckon in this entire residential complex, your home is probably the liveliest," Old Lin remarked with feeling.
"Isn't it because of Banxia? If it weren't for Banxia, even if I came, Old Qiu might not have been willing to come," Qiao Xuezhi said.
"You're not wrong about that. And sometimes, I genuinely can't stand you either," Qiu Huaili said.
"Oh, get lost. I can't stand you either," Qiao Xuezhi replied with a laugh.
Qiaoqiao looked cheerfully at the people in the yard, feeling even happier.
She was already a fun-loving person, and seeing so many people gathered here, mostly because of Liu Banxia, made her genuinely overjoyed.
Plenty of meat skewers were ready, and once the charcoal fire was going, they could start grilling immediately.
While Liu Banxia was busy, a security guard ran over.
"Dr. Liu, the resident from Building 3 has been diagnosed. They said he needs two stents. I was asked to come and let you know," the security guard said.
"Okay, thank you," Liu Banxia said.
"Goodness, two stents! Was his condition very serious before this too?" Qiao Xuezhi asked.
"More or less. It's often like that; many conditions go unnoticed in daily life, but when they finally manifest, they can be very severe," Liu Banxia said. "That's why everyone should have an annual medical check-up. At the very least, things like your cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems, and abdominal organs, should be examined."
"Yes, and a colonoscopy, that's also necessary," Qiaoqiao added.
"Qiaoqiao is right. Some intestinal disorders are the easiest to overlook," Liu Banxia complimented. "Anyway, whenever you feel unwell, go for a check-up. Spending a little money at the hospital is no big deal; delaying diagnosis and treatment is what's truly troublesome."
"Prevention is key. Nip any problem in the bud, and it won't cause much commotion. Pay some attention to your diet. But that doesn't mean all barbecue causes cancer, all alcohol leads to liver cirrhosis, or all smoking results in lung cancer. Everything requires moderation."
Everyone chuckled and nodded. In fact, Liu Banxia frequently held these kinds of mini medical lectures.
If they had previously thought he was just being overly cautious due to his profession, they wouldn't think so after today's incident. If the resident of Building 3 had paid more attention, some heart problems could surely have been detected.
Some things are just like that; you often have to experience them personally before they truly grab your attention.
