Chapter 577: Qiaoqiao in the Good Wife version 577

(Thanks for the encouragement of monthly passes that year)

Now that the illness has been diagnosed, it needed to be treated accordingly.

The treatment for such diseases is also simple. As long as there are no contraindications, the first-choice medications are glucocorticoids, such as prednisolone, azathioprine, methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, and biologics like rituximab, among others.

However, as Liu Banxia said, the effects wouldn’t be immediate. It would require slow administration and careful adjustment of the dosage. Even if cured this time, long-term medication would be necessary, though the dosage would be modified over time.

After making another round in the ward and checking on the patients who needed attention, Liu Banxia happily left work when his shift ended.

He had been working for over ten days straight again. As the chief resident, it was incredibly difficult to get proper rest.

He was so eager to get home that if not for traffic rules, he’d have wished for wings on his car.

When he returned to Linyu Villa, Tang Dou was the first to greet him.

Liu Banxia was tall and quite strong. However, when Tang Dou pounced, he nearly lost his footing. Tang Dou seemed to have bulked up a bit too, as his meals had been good lately.

"You must be tired. Come inside, wash up, and let’s eat dinner," Qiaoqiao gestured, her wifely gentleness on full display.

Liu Banxia was taken aback. Is this really Qiaoqiao? Is someone impersonating her?

"What are you gawking at? Tang Dou, stop clinging to him," Qiaoqiao chided.

Tang Dou glanced at Qiaoqiao, then resolutely sat by Liu Banxia’s feet.

"Tang Dou, are you looking for trouble? Don’t you want your toys anymore?"

Qiaoqiao yelled at Tang Dou, exasperated.

Only then did Tang Dou trot over to her, tail wagging happily. That’s more like the owner I know!

"What charade are you playing now?" Liu Banxia asked with a wry smile.

"It’s Yanzi and Jiaojiao! They kept saying I don’t know how to be a wife. I think I fell for their trick. What should I do?" Qiaoqiao asked, looking troubled.

Liu Banxia gently pinched her nose before following her inside.

"Wow, Dr. Liu! A photo, a photo!"

As soon as they entered the room, Wang Xiaoyan dashed over, grabbed Liu Banxia’s arm, and pushed Qiaoqiao aside.

"You’re being silly! Two minutes for photos, then we eat," Qiaoqiao laughed, chiding them.

Then Liu Banxia became a photo prop, first with Wang Xiaoyan, then with Jiaojiao. Two minutes wasn’t nearly enough; it took at least five.

"That should be enough, right? I need to taste the fish my wife stewed," Liu Banxia pleaded.

"Tsk, tsk. ’Once the wife is welcomed, the matchmaker is forgotten.’ If it weren’t for me, would you two even be together?" Wang Xiaoyan retorted.

"Thank you, truly, thank you. I think we still have some alcohol. I can have a drink with you all tonight," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Now that’s more like it! Qiaoqiao nearly exhausted herself preparing tonight’s dinner. But are you sure her fish, and the sweet and sour pork ribs she’s making now, are actually edible?" Wang Xiaoyan asked.

"Absolutely, positively, and definitely. Of course, they’re edible!" Liu Banxia asserted.

"I’m sort of a matchmaker too, right? I contributed as well," Jiaojiao said.

"Yes, yes, you both are. Both matchmakers, and I thank you both. Tonight, I’ll let you have Qiaoqiao all to yourselves, how about that?" Liu Banxia quickly offered.

"Better not. Qiaoqiao would go mad, wouldn’t she?" Wang Xiaoyan said, chuckling.

"Alright, everyone, come and eat," Qiaoqiao called out then.

The meal was sumptuous. With so many dishes, Wang Xiaoyan and Jiaojiao must have helped; otherwise, Qiaoqiao couldn’t have managed it all.

She probably wouldn’t even know how to prepare half of these dishes, let alone cook them.

"When did you two get here?" Liu Banxia asked, sitting down at the dinner table after freshening up.

"We’ve been here for two days. And what can we say? Qiaoqiao’s been like a little grieving wife," Wang Xiaoyan said, shaking her head with an air of mock seriousness.

"Hmph, can’t all this delicious food shut you two up? Red wine or white wine?" Qiaoqiao asked.

"Let’s have red wine. We haven’t seen Dr. Liu in ages; it’s a good chance to chat. When are you two planning the wedding? I have to be a bridesmaid, you know," Jiaojiao said.

"Sigh... I just want a day off. I really don’t have a clue," Liu Banxia said.

"Probably after October at the earliest. I hand over my current work in July. Then I’ll need to get settled into the new role. That’ll take two or three months at least."

"But poor Qiaoqiao, she’ll be tossing and turning all night, unable to sleep," Jiaojiao said with a serious face.

"Oh, you guys are impossible! Hurry up and eat," Qiaoqiao said helplessly.

These were her two closest girlfriends; she could only endure their teasing.

"Huh? I can’t believe it, Qiaoqiao’s stewed fish is actually delicious! Let me try this fish head too," Wang Xiaoyan exclaimed, astonished after her first bite.

She knew Qiaoqiao too well. In the past, if you’d asked this girl to cook? She’d have practically burned the kitchen down. Now, this stewed fish was flavorful, and the steamed fish head was excellent too. Is this still the same Qiaoqiao?

"You’ve been together for so long; didn’t you ever have Qiaoqiao cook for you?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

The two girls shook their heads, looking bewildered.

"We always ate out. Who knew she could actually cook? We didn’t even dare let her handle the barbecue," Wang Xiaoyan said.

"Truly amazing! Today’s Qiaoqiao is incredible. I can’t even stew fish that well!" Jiaojiao added.

Qiaoqiao lifted her chin proudly. No need to tell them how many fish she’d ruined in the process. The current result was excellent, and that was success.

"By the way, I’ve always been curious, how did Dr. Liu and Qiaoqiao meet?" Jiaojiao asked.

"Jiaojiao, that’s a long story. Remember when I hit my forehead? That’s when I met Dr. Liu," Wang Xiaoyan said.

"It must have been fate. Qiaoqiao insisted on taking care of me, even wanted to cook for me. You know how she was before—she’d make a fuss over a tiny cut on her finger."

"As for how those two got together later, you’ll have to ask them. Honestly, I’m often puzzled myself. Qiaoqiao isn’t one to fall for someone easily."

After Wang Xiaoyan finished, she looked at Qiaoqiao.

It wasn’t just them; even Liu Banxia was curious and looked over too.

"Hey, why are you all looking at me? It was because of Tang Dou, when he fractured his leg," Qiaoqiao said helplessly.

"When he treated Tang Dou’s leg, Tang Dou was very good and didn’t suffer much. I thought, Hmm, this guy seems decent. Then there was that minor accident, and he carried me."

"Just because of that?" Jiaojiao asked, incredulous.

Qiaoqiao was always so fiery and spirited, a seemingly bold person. She fell for him just because Liu Banxia carried her once? And pledged herself to him?

"Hehe, I didn’t think too much back then, just thought it’d be nice to have a doctor as a friend. Hehehe, hurry up and eat," Qiaoqiao giggled.

Despite her words, neither Wang Xiaoyan nor Jiaojiao believed her. That girl probably fell for him right then and there. Otherwise, how could it have happened so fast?

As for the scheme the two of them cooked up later to push Qiaoqiao, she had merely gone along with it.

"Hey, hurry up and eat! Jiaojiao’s grilled chicken wings are delicious, and Yanzi’s cooking is great too," Qiaoqiao said hurriedly, noticing their skeptical looks.

"Sigh... I’m starting to think the two of us aren’t even as important as Tang Dou," Wang Xiaoyan lamented.

Hearing his name, Tang Dou, who was lying nearby, ambled over. He wasn’t looking for food, though; he settled down at Liu Banxia’s feet.

"Tang Dou is really well-behaved. He only tore up one sofa, right?" Wang Xiaoyan asked.

Qiaoqiao nodded. "Just that one time. After I told him off, he stopped."

"What about you two? I think if you’ve found someone you approve of, that’s what matters," Liu Banxia said.

"That might be fine for Jiaojiao, but not for me. I need to observe very carefully before deciding," Wang Xiaoyan said.

"By the way, will you have time to help out at my yoga studio anymore? Many people are still hoping you’ll come. The New Year holiday just ended, a lot of people have gained weight, and I could make some extra money."

"Okay, I’ll go over with you tomorrow and help out. You’re one of our matchmakers, after all. I have to help," Liu Banxia agreed without hesitation.

"Wow, really? I was just saying it casually," Wang Xiaoyan asked, surprised.

"Why would I lie? You’re Qiaoqiao’s best friend and our matchmaker. Of course, I have to help," Liu Banxia said, nodding seriously. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Qiaoqiao happily placed another piece of deboned fish on Liu Banxia’s plate.

Jiaojiao glanced over, then nudged Wang Xiaoyan.

"What is it?" Qiaoqiao asked curiously.

"You’ve really become the model of a virtuous wife and loving mother. Dr. Liu’s plate doesn’t have a single fishbone, just a few tiny bones from other dishes," Wang Xiaoyan said.

"Haha, I didn’t even notice. I guess I’ve gotten used to Qiaoqiao feeding me like this. Here, I should pick out a piece of fish for you too," Liu Banxia said, laughing.

"Honestly, if it weren’t so late, I wouldn’t stay here to be tortured by your public displays of affection," Wang Xiaoyan said helplessly.

"Sigh... looking at them, I want to get married too," Jiaojiao said wistfully.

"When you meet the right person, don’t overthink it. If you can build a life together and they treat you well, that’s enough," Liu Banxia said.

"Exactly! You two need to step it up," Qiaoqiao chimed in.

"Eat, eat! If we don’t grab some now, it’ll all end up in Dr. Liu’s bowl," Wang Xiaoyan urged.

Qiaoqiao, looking very pleased, put more food onto Liu Banxia’s plate.

This was her favorite thing to do. Whenever she ate with Liu Banxia, she loved taking care of him like this.

Although she could be a bit domineering in daily life, when it came to "pampering" Liu Banxia, she didn’t hold back in the slightest.

No wonder Comrade Old Qiao sometimes got jealous. His own daughter rarely served him food like that.
