The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 292: Start of Change (2)
Chapter 292: Start of Change (2)
Arren’s smile turned stiff and awkward for a moment, then he couldn’t help but finally pinch her squishy cheeks. Ivanna pouted and kicked a fuss, telling Arren not to pinch her cheeks.
He laughed, leaving the conversation unfinished. Of course, his face was recognizable wherever he went. Arren decided that while waiting for Spade, he wouldn’t leave the house, lest he might cause an unexpected problem instead.
Arren had enough evidence to say that he was really a magnet for trouble. Even if he was born reckless, his life was intertwined with many others, and Arren had enough of the suffering during his last two lifetimes.
He sincerely hoped that this life would be different.
After a while, Auntie Mildred approached Arren.
"Here," she handed Arren a paper bag. "There’s still some new clothes in there from when I purchased a lot before. It’s cheap, but I hope it’s fine."
Arren blinked and took the paper bag, clutching it just as he held the phone last night. He might not say another thank you, but his demeanor showed it best.
He would surely repay this favor. It appeared even Auntie Mildred was tired of hearing thank-you from him, so he decided to thank her through his actions.
While Arren waited for Spade, the alpha was in discussion inside his study. The forces they would mobilize were enough to alert the Kingdom of West but it didn’t matter to Spade at this moment.
Spade would not be sloppy in deploying his forces, as the other side chose to touch his reverse scale first. Retaliating was only reasonable. He also didn’t know the forces of the organization in that city, but it didn’t matter that much.
Even if it was unknown, couldn’t he just overpower them with twice the force he had? One thing that Spade had learned from his previous life and the current mistake he made was that he wasn’t reckless enough.
He was decisive, yes, but as a ruler, he always accounted for the majority’s well-being the most in his decisions. Of course, that was supposed to be his role as emperor, and there was nothing wrong with that.
However, it was his shackle that was still continuing to be exploited by his opponents. In his previous life, if he immediately mobilized his forces to quell the loosening parts of the empire, if he slightly made different judgments on subjugating these loose ends earlier on, the war might not have been that tragic in the end.
The empire was destroyed by his hands; that was true. And in Spade’s later years, he was so lost in his revenge that he hardly cared about it. For him, he had nothing to really lose.
How could he protect the crumbling empire when he wasn’t able to protect his own omega? And so, Spade drags every one of his enemies into hell with him.
After pondering about it, Spade realized how selfish he was. Not only did he drag his enemies into his miserable fate, but even those citizens who trusted him were implicated.
So, at this point in time, Spade decided to flip the table two times over. Those rat holes the organization was hiding themselves in, he would uncover them one by one until they had nowhere else to go.
And he would start with the Kingdom of West.
"Arren is here," Spade pointed to one location; upon hearing the exact location, he was focusing the mission around this location.
The city that Arren was in wasn’t a major city of the Kingdom, but it was still relatively prosperous compared to most cities it owned. Surrounding the whole area wasn’t extremely difficult for him and his forces.
What he wanted in this mission was efficiency. Before he uproots the rat holes in this kingdom, Arren’s safety needs to be guaranteed, or Spade will not be at ease moving forward with his plans.
"This area, and this one..." Spade marked everything that he remembered. These were the known small hideouts of agents; they were smaller in scale, but it was better than nothing.
He swept his piercing gaze around. These individuals that gathered here were the higher-ranking officers of Black Intel and other loyal forces under Spade.
Under his stern gaze, everyone couldn’t help but sit straight with tense nerves. Each one of them knew just how crucial this mission was.
"Our agents will surround these locations at the same time. We will distract them, and at the same time, I’ll be meeting Arren."
In fact, Spade had not only given instructions to the Kingdom of West but also to the capital. The agents would move similarly. The reason he wasn’t doing it in other kingdoms associated with the empire was that he didn’t want to spread his forces thin.
Before he moved to other parts of the empire, the capital must be secured first. Spade would not let the same situation happen twice, where the capital was the first to be subjected to the fire of chaos in his previous life.
After finalizing the plan with them, Spade was left with Serrien inside the room. Sorting out his thoughts while clasping his hand, he lifted his head and looked at his royal secretary.
For a moment, his eyes lingered on Serrien, not only his secretary but also his friend. In his previous life, like everyone else, his end was also not good. Until the end, Serrien stuck to Spade and rigorously executed his orders, although Spade’s mentality then was truly unlike his usual self.
Eventually, he fell for the scheme of the organization and was among the many officers of the empire who were killed in an ambush while returning to the capital.
"Your Majesty?" After a moment of his silence, Serrien had to call out to him, bewildered by his silence.
Spade exhaled and nodded at his friend as he spoke rather amicably.
"Serrien, connect me to the king," he ordered.
Serrien looked at him as if wanting to read his thoughts, but as usual, he couldn’t and nodded in silent assent.
The king of the Kingdom of West wasn’t part of the organization; that was true in his previous life, and now he is about to confirm it again in this current life.
"Y-Your Majesty," the king of the Kingdom Of West bowed at Spade. He might be older and also a respected king, but compared to the emperor, his status was lower.
In turn, he couldn’t help but get nervous in front of the emperor, whom he rarely met or even talked with.
Spade waved his hand and said, "Let’s drop the formality. I just want to confirm something." He stared at the face of the king; the amount they had seen each other wasn’t few but also not that often either.
"Ah, yes... What is it, Your Majesty?" the old king was a bit flustered by Spade’s gaze, even on the other end of the screen.
As Spade opened his mouth and said his intention, the old king’s expression changed. He looked at Spade in disbelief.
"That... I’m not sure of what Your Majesty is talking about."
Inwardly, Spade nodded. Just like in his previous life, the old king of the Kingdom of West was a coward and incompetent. Someone who left his responsibility at the height of the organization’s and its allies’ invasion.
He wasn’t part of the organization, but that didn’t mean Spade liked him. In his eyes, the old king was so afraid of death that he turned tail and hid while the war was happening.
"Open your kingdom to my forces." Spade stared at him intently. "And prove your loyalty to me."
For a kind of king like the one in front of him, Spade could manipulate him with ease with his authority. Grabbing the neck of someone who was afraid of death was more necessary than any peace talks.
Being associated with the organization was a huge crime that could lead to his not only being dethroned but killed as well, so the king’s expression was filled with extreme anxiety.
The kingdom under him was technically the empire’s land, and in that sense, it was his. Spade trying to talk to him could still be seen as showing respect to a fellow ruler like him.
The king relents easily and bows, "Of course, your Majesty. The empire’s forces are always welcome in my humble kingdom."
Spade’s forces were actually on the way to the kingdom; as he said, this talk was only a formality and a confirmation to see the king in his own eyes.
In peaceful times, Spade and the empire, using force and authority, could earn criticism from the public, but in chaotic times, that completely changed.
After the call was over, Spade continued to stare at the screen with his heated gaze.
Once the chaos spread, everyone would be reminded how feeble the current peace was.
The revolution of the old was closing upon the new regime. And this was the second round. The first one was mutual destruction; this time around, Spade would try his best to change that.
Spade’s forces moved and scattered according to their missions; the majority of them were approaching the Kingdom Of West. This mobilization was huge, but as the king had cooperated with Spade, they managed to slip inside silently.
And in one of the cars, Spade, wearing the uniform of a special agent of the Black Intel, also entered the Kingdom Of West.
