The Duke's Masked Wife 2: The Prince's Outcast Bride-Chapter 164: Captured (2)
Chapter 164: Captured (2)
Reed lifted Warren to place him in the cart. He stopped when Warren groaned.
"If he moves again, I am going to hit him. What? We can’t have him get up and scream for help. Where’s the rope to tie him with?" Caleb asked, holding his right hand out to Reed. "Why are you looking at me like you don’t know what rope is?"
Reed looked down at the hand he wanted to smack away. "Why are you asking me for the rope you were supposed to collect? You had one job. Get the rope and something to stuff his mouth with."
"No," Caleb shook his head. "You were to get the rope."
Reed decided to entertain Caleb’s foolishness. "And what were you to get?"
"The horses- Oh," Caleb realised his mistake.
"Oh," Reed said in a mocking tone. "You told me to get the horses like you always do while you went for the rope."
Caleb scratched the back of his head. "I’m sure I told one of you to do it."
"You told me," said Killian, another Collins guard. He placed the rope on the cart.
"Why did you stand there silently while he asked me about the rope?" Caled asked.
Killian shrugged his shoulders. "You didn’t ask if I had the rope. You should be quick."
Caleb snatched the rope from where it was placed on the cart. "I need Edgar to stop assigning me with you two. I wouldn’t mind becoming Penelope’s guard to get away from you."
Killian looked at Reed and smiled. "How could you treat your precious brother and cousin like this?"
"I don’t claim you, and if he didn’t have my face, I wouldn’t claim him either," Caleb grumbled.
Reed and Killian stood out of the way as Caleb tied up Warren and placed the hay to cover him.
Caleb then sat down to ride on the cart with Warren in case he woke up on the ride back.
"Move!" Caleb ordered the pair. "I want to get to the estate before nightfall."
"We should ride fast to make him fall over," Reed plotted.
"I know a bump in the road to send him flying near the estate," said Killian.
Caleb eyed the two men, suspicious of them after they looked at him and smiled. He was ready for anything they would try to do.
Hours later, Penelope returned home from her day out with Lily and Priscilla. She went in search of Tyrion to tell him about her day.
Penelope knocked on the door of his study and opened it before he allowed her in. She poked her head inside and found Tyrion sitting behind the table.
Tyrion appeared engrossed in his work, which led Penelope to wonder if she could sneak up on him.
"Why are you staring at me?" Tyrion asked without needing to look up to see who was at the door. "I was about to send guards out to find you."
Penelope entered the room and closed the door behind her. "I got a little carried away with my sister and grandmother. Priscilla spoiled us, so I have plenty of dresses to be delivered. I don’t need to worry about dresses for the season."
"I aspire to be like my grandmother. She has promised to end the talk about a curse, and I believe she can do it," said Penelope.
Penelope walked up to the table and went around it to sit on Tyrion’s lap. Now that she was home, the papers could wait a little longer.
Tyrion leaned back on his chair. "How long will this boldness last?"
"All my life," Penelope replied.
"Says the woman who blushes when I stand bare before her. It looks like you have not gotten a good look. Would you like to? There it is," Tyrion said, watching as Penelope turned away from him.
"Your mouth tends to be filthy," said Penelope.
"I am speaking with my wife, who adores me. How could it be filthy? Should I remind you of the things you say when you are beneath me?"
"No!" Penelope covered Tyrion’s mouth with her hand.
She didn’t move away even when she felt him lick her hand.
Since Penelope didn’t back away, she knew Tyrion was smiling from ear to ear beneath her hands.
Tyrion touched Penelope’s hand and moved it away so she could speak. His hands then rested on her waist to keep her sitting on his lap.
"Whatever happened today to turn you like this, I am grateful for it. How did the meeting with my grandmother go? Was it all that you imagined?" Tyrion inquired.
"It was. I did not stay for long since it would have been draining to keep being attacked about my marriage. I am grateful Priscilla was there with us. She spoke her mind without caring what others would think," Penelope said, creating a small braid in Tyrion’s hair as she spoke.
"I understand why you seek to keep me from your grandmother. It is a stubbornness that I have never seen before. She will never let how we got married go, and I feel like she is not supportive of Teo," said Penelope. freewёbnoνel.com
Why wasn’t Teo destined to become a good king in Tabitha’s eyes?
"Other than your parents and Hailey, does he have more support in the palace now? I hope he does," Penelope said, worried about how Teo felt.
"Teo is well supported in the palace. Rather than focus on those who wish for me to be king or doubt him already, he is focusing on preparing for the coronation. It is disappointing that she cannot support him," Tyrion agreed.
Tyrion knew well that Teo would have liked to make Tabitha feel proud.
"If she will continue to speak of me returning to be king, then I must keep her away from him. She cannot be the one to spoil this for him. Did she say anything to you before the other ladies? Penelope," Tyrion urged Penelope to speak.
Tyrion said, "If you don’t tell me, I will hear it from someone else, and I would prefer to hear it from you. What did she say?"
"She said all that you are thinking of. About us running off together and the curse. I am to blame for you leaving the palace behind. It is fine because I expect to be blamed for all your mistakes. After all, it is easier to blame me than to address you," Penelope said, poking at Tyrion’s chest.
"Our marriage is not a mistake. The only mistake is not dealing with my grandmother sooner," said Tyrion.
