The Duke's Masked Wife 2: The Prince's Outcast Bride-Chapter 108: Visitors from the palace (4)
Chapter 108: Visitors from the palace (4)
"It seems you have not heard that I have become a Castro, and this is my home you stand in. While I respect Lady Tabitha, I question her judgment to send a maid who is so rude to disobey what the lady of this home says," said Penelope.
"You will not find any work here. Lady Tabitha might have sent you, but this is my home, where my word matters more. I am being polite now to let you leave on your own accord, but that might quickly turn to having the guards escort you out," Penelope said, on the verge of doing the latter.
Penelope got what she wanted from meeting Ines. She saw with her eyes how angry Tabitha was to send a maid who didn’t know how to be polite. Now that she knew how low Tabitha could stoop, Penelope was going to be guarded each time she was unfortunate to be near Tabitha.
"If I might speak-"
"No, you may not," Penelope stopped Ines. "I am the lady of the mansion, while you have come here looking for work. You have been dismissive of my title all because of a task Lady Tabitha has sent you to do."
Penelope continued to say, "I am not angry with you since you are only carrying out your duty, but I am growing annoyed with you. I am noticing your smug behaviour and the smile you want to hold back."
"You have misjudged me, Lady Penelope," Ines replied.
"No, I have not. I am becoming a better judge of character. I’m sure since your lady has not fully accepted me as a Castro, you think you can get away with this. Whilst you might not accept my marriage, nothing can change my birth name," Penelope said, reminding Ines who her parents were.
Penelope shifted her attention to Matilda. "Since she is so adamant to speak with my husband, bring him here for me, Matilda."
"Milady, you do not want to do this," Ines advised Penelope.
Tabitha wasn’t a simple woman for Penelope to pick a fight with. Penelope married into the Castros for only a short period. Tabitha ranked above Penelope in Ines’s eyes since she was Tyrion’s grandmother.
"I am not the one picking a fight," said Penelope.
In a perfect world, Penelope would have accepted any help sent to her, but since Tabitha was not ready to accept that Tyrion would stay out of the palace or that Penelope was not pregnant, Penelope could not accept help.
Penelope waited patiently for Tyrion to arrive.
Whether than getting upset and acting out of character over a little matter, she would have Tyrion show that they had the same decision. It needed to be told to Tabitha that Tyrion would not accept any maids sent to help them. Still, Penelope expected to hear this story twisted.
Ines picked up the letter since Tyrion was on his way. It had been so long since she had seen him.
There had always been many promises from Tabitha that Ines would become a maid to serve the future king.
Tabitha prepared a few maids to be perfect to serve a king, and though Tyrion was not on the path to becoming king anymore, it was still a great honour for Ines to serve him.
Matilda returned to the drawing room after informing the butler that Lady Penelope wanted her husband. Winston was kind to step outside to bring Tyrion since Matilda did not like leaving Penelope alone with Ines.
"Lady Castro, perhaps you have more than misunderstood me. I have only come here to serve your husband as a maid, not as-"
"You should be careful with what you say. Your tongue could be cut off for what you speak," Matilda said, greatly annoyed with Ines.
Since when could a maid carelessly speak like this to a woman of Penelope’s status?
This wasn’t right, and Ines knew it. If Tabitha sent Ines to purposely speak like this to Penelope, then Matilda had a very low opinion of the lady.
No matter the circumstances of Penelope’s marriage, she was still a lady of great status.
Tyrion entered the drawing room, his gaze solely on Penelope. It was only when he sat beside Penelope and acknowledged the guest that he recognised who had been sent.
"You are a long way from my grandmother’s home. Return now," said Tyrion.
Tyrion hoped Penelope was not thinking of keeping Ines at her side. It would only bring drama they did not need in their home.
Ines smiled, handing the letter over to Tyrion. "Crown prince-"
"My brother is now the crown prince, and you know it. I will not tolerate any disrespect towards my brother and my wife," Tyrion said, ignoring the letter held out to him. "I don’t care what is inside. Have you asked her to leave?" He asked Penelope.
"I have, but she has received strict orders to speak to you. She has come here to serve you, but I am not to worry since she isn’t here to be your mistress. She was excited to see you, so hopefully, you will have something good to say," said Penelope.
Tyrion didn’t have the patience for any of this. Since Ines wasn’t going to find work here, Tyrion wasn’t going around in circles to get her out.
"Get up," Tyrion ordered Ines.
"Prince Tyrion," Ines said as she did what she was told. "If you would only read the letter, then you would understand why I have come here. Lady Tabitha has sent me to serve you and to guide Lady Penelope."
’Guide?’ Penelope thought.
The only women Penelope would ever seek guidance from were her mother, the queen, and her grandmother, Priscilla.
Penelope couldn’t help but laugh.
"You must read it," Ines said, pushing the letter forward.
"If you keep inching your hand closer to me, you will lose it," Tyrion warned Ines. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Ines gasped, pulling her hand back before Tyrion did as he threatened her. Since when had the prince become like this? He was like a new person in Ines’s eyes.
Tabitha was not going to be pleased to hear this.
"Gather your bag and the letter you came with. We’ve only just settled into our home, so I would not like to see any blood from you losing your hand split on the floor. Return to your lady and let her know you couldn’t find work here," Penelope said.
Penelope stood up since she no longer had a guest to entertain. "I want you to pass on a message to Lady Tabitha. Tell her that this home does not need any more servants, therefore, she doesn’t need to send someone else. Our gates are now closed to anyone seeking work."
