Chapter 107: We Need to Change Our Plans

Several minutes later, there was a brief knock at Yari’s bedroom door before Jiaoying entered.

Yari sat at the foot of the bed, while Solomon continued to lie unconscious at the head.

"Well...?" Yari asked expectantly.

Jiaoying sighed as she sat down beside her. "Master’s out cold. I doubt he’ll remember anything past his first drink."

Yari sighed in relief as she slumped back into her bed. "That’s one catastrophe avoided then..."

The girls heard an abrupt rustling on the bed.

"What’s the other catastrophe we should be looking for...?"

As Solomon rose out of the sheets, the girls let out twin sighs of relief before going to his side.

"We were discussing the current jeopardy your life is supposedly in." Yari folded her arms across her chest. "Something about you attacking an instructor?"

"He was deserving." Solomon rubbed his head sleepily. "And my life is incapable of being in jeopardy."

"I didn’t know that meant that you could act without forethought."

Solomon pushed his hair out of his face and met Yari’s eyes with a steadfast gaze. "Even if I were perfectly mortal, I likely still would have acted. I will have no one close to me so easily dismissed."

In truth, Yari was rather flustered by Solomon’s straightforward, righteous nature. But she tried to balance her attraction to the man before her with what she knew was right.

Yari let out a small, frustrated noise. "Solomon, you can’t just-"

"I know... Solomon glanced at the bedsheets. "I can’t do what I want until after I do what I’m told."

Unlike Jiaoying, Yari knew exactly what those words meant. She knew that they weren’t exactly something Solomon had said lightly.

"What happened..?" Jiaoying sat beside Solomon and cupped his face in her hand. "How did you end up in the forest and like... that?"

Initially, the memory was clouded by a fog for Solomon.

But as he tried more intensely to recall it, the obscurity over his mind finally lifted, and a massive headache crashed into him.

"That..."

Solomon started to speak, but then he realized that one of them was missing some very crucial information.

"We need to tell her about the Dean."

Yari’s posture became rigid as soon as Solomon’s words touched the air.

"The Dean...? What about him??" Jiaoying looks back and forth between the two.

Yari presses her thumbs together nervously.

"A-About that... I have something to confess, but... I need your word that you will not get upset."

-

Nila was kneeling in her Aunt’s living room with her arms in the air and a knot on top of her head.

She let out a series of sniffles infrequently, cursing her circumstances.

"This is most distressing... Why do I have to be the one to suffer this indignity?"

Raizel sat on the ground in front of her, unsure of whether he should pity her or laugh at her.

"Think of it like training. You’re strengthening your arms so that-"

"WHY ARE YOU ONLY TELLING ME ABOUT THIS NOW?!?"

The floor reverberated as a shrill voice came from the other side of Yari’s bedroom door.

Jiaoying came storming out, a glowing crystal sword in hand and a dreadful expression that would be the terror of any warrior.

No one would even notice the elven beauty holding onto her leg in a desperate bid to stop her.

"Jiaoying, stop and listen to me!" Yari was nearly dragged all the way to the front door.

"Why are you trying to stop me?! That animal deserves to die for what he’s done to you!"

"I am well aware, but you cannot be the one to go against him! Even with Fury, you are not strong enough to survive the clash!"

Jiaoying usually never showed it, but she was immensely prideful when it came to her swordsmanship.

It was the one thing she had that she had worked tirelessly to master, even without Fury’s influence.

She was a monster, yes. But she knew that there were fewer than ten people in the world who could stand against her.

For the woman who she was courting to claim that her ability was not enough, it stung her pride in more ways than she knew how to express.

She dropped her head to the ground, her sword arm shaking.

"...So what do you want me to do..? Just sit here, and smile at that prick and act like I don’t know he’s been manipulating you..? That he’s been manipulating children??"

Yari stood up from the ground. She wrapped her arms around Jiaoying from behind and buried her face in her neck.

"I know it’s hard, but I just... I need you to trust me. I have things under control. I’m not being hurt, I promise..."

Jiaoying bit her lip until she tasted metal on her tongue. Her knuckles turned white from her tight grip on her sword.

"Apologies, my darling... but I don’t think that’s going to cut it anymore."

Solomon exited the bedroom wearing only a pair of black briefs. He stood on wobbly legs, supporting himself using the doorframe at his side.

"When the Dean saw me talking with Nila earlier... he made the insinuation that we would make a good couple. Based on prior experiences... I don’t believe he’s above trying to control her to get at me again."

Yari froze, a bitter chill racing up her spine.

"Hey, what’s going on..?" Nila put her arms down. "Why are you all so frantic and speaking of... control? And grandfather..?"

The silence that permeated the room was deafening. Nila only became more frustrated when her friends and family seemed reluctant to answer her questions.

But then, Solomon spoke. And her entire world was thrown into upheaval. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Your grandfather is a very dangerous man, Nila. And... I’m now convinced that the reason why you don’t speak about your aunt in the future is because he did something to her then made you forget about it. Made you forget about her."

Initially, Nila lets out a small scoff of dismissal. "Friend Solomon is truly getting better with his sense of humor. Do you honestly mean to tell me that you can see the future?"

Her chuckle is the only sound in the room for a brief moment. But she ceases to find anything funny when she realizes no one else is laughing.

Instead, they are all looking toward the metal man at her side.

Raise shuffles back and forth uncomfortably.

"...Actually... my brother cannot see the future. I on the other hand..."
