The Double-Chapter 421 - 139: Meeting_4
Chapter 421: Chapter 139: Meeting_4
In a side room of the back courtyard, three people were seated in front of a small table.
Upon hearing the noise, the three turned their heads.
"Jiang Li has arrived," Ye Mingyu said.
Jiang Li looked into the room.
Jih Heng smiled at her; no matter when she saw him, he was always so resplendent. Seated in the Ye Family’s plain room, which was devoid of anything special, he yet made the space seem brighter by his presence.
"Uncle, you can go back first, I have a few words to speak with the Duke," Jiang Li said with a smile.
Ye Mingyu looked at Jiang Li, and then at Jih Heng, restraining himself for a moment before finally leaving. "I’ll be just outside in the courtyard. If there’s anything, just call for me," he said.
He still didn’t trust Jih Heng.
Once Ye Mingyu had left, the three people in the room also stood up.
Standing behind Jih Heng was a young man of about eighteen or nineteen dressed in white. He was a graceful and beautiful gentleman, with an inexplicably handsome face, wearing a warm smile. He took two steps forward, curiously sizing up Jiang Li, and said, "So this is Miss Jiang the Second—I must say, seeing is truly believing."
Jiang Li had never met someone so forward, so she could only respond with a smile. With that smile, the man grew even more animated, saying, "Miss Jiang the Second is really too cute."
Jiang Li: "..."
"Wen Renyao, if you keep talking like that, I am going to throw up." From behind Jih Heng came a girl’s voice. Jiang Li looked and saw a girl dressed in black making her way out.
This girl didn’t seem to be a native of Yanjing, as her attire was that of the foreign tribes. Her hair was braided into thin plaits, each adorned with black bells. She had a sweet appearance, yet her watery Yanjing eyes held a touch of indifferent cunning. Jiang Li noted a small scorpion tattooed on her hand.
Jiang Li remembered the original purpose of her visit to see Jih Heng, but she couldn’t just blurt it out directly. So she turned to Jih Heng and said, "I appreciate your help with the matter of Chongxu Daoist Master."
Even though it was Zhao Ke who found the helpers, it must have been with Jih Heng’s consent. Besides, without the whistle Jih Heng gave her, she wouldn’t have been able to command Zhao Ke.
Jih Heng’s smile held a touch of sarcasm: "I’m just surprised that you would resort to such an embarrassing method, using things like hauntings."
Jiang Li: "..."
She knew that her method hardly counted as cunning, and it was not much different from a swindler in the martial arts world. The Exorcism performed by Chongxu Daoist Master relied on exploiting the ghosts in people’s hearts, and her act of haunting a few days ago took advantage of the ghost in Ji Shuran’s heart. Compared to her previous actions, it lacked any real basis or confidence, almost like child’s play.
That Renyao, upon hearing this, "Pfft," burst into laughter, and said, "I don’t think the Second Miss’s approach is unpleasant at all; I find it... very cute." He looked at Jiang Li earnestly, very amicably.
Jiang Li truly didn’t understand how such a friendly and undisciplined person could survive under Jih Heng’s watch.
"But when it comes to deception, if the Second Miss ever needs help, she can come to me," Wen Renyao leaned in close and said, "Nobody understands deceit better than I do. What I’m best at deceiving... is a woman’s heart."
Jiang Li choked and began to cough violently.
Wen Renyao looked concerned: "Are you alright, Second Miss? Did you catch a cold from the draft? It’s cold in Yanjing these days..."
Jih Heng’s fan snapped open, blocking Wen Renyao’s face from getting close to Jiang Li, as he said coldly, "Have you said enough? If so, get out."
"Ah Heng... you’ve changed..." Wen Renyao made a face.
Ignoring him, Jih Heng simply said to Jiang Li, "Zhao Ke should have told you that you’re here today to meet the person who can treat Xue Huaiyuan’s illness."
Jiang Li looked at Wen Renyao—was this the person? Such a person seemed way too unreliable. freewēbnoveℓ.com
The next moment, the girl in black stepped forward, eyeing her with a somewhat eerie smile: "Situ Jiuyue."
"Miss Jiuyue," Jiang Li replied agreeably, "I’ve heard from Zhao Ke that you are Northern Yan’s The First Divine Doctor." Despite their similar age, Jiang Li’s demeanor showed no hint of disdain, only fitting respect.
Situ Jiuyue laughed, "Zhao Ke is mistaken. I’m not Northern Yan’s The First Divine Doctor, I’m Northern Yan’s foremost poison expert. I specialize in crafting poisons, not saving lives. To me, curing people isn’t nearly as entertaining as creating poisons."
Jih Heng said: "Situ Jiuyue."
The girl remained unfazed and continued, "However, since I’ve been asked for help, I occasionally lend a hand in saving someone. Although I’m not very good at healing, I am certainly far more adept than most doctors, especially those old incompetents at the Imperial Medical Bureau."
