The Devil's Betrothed-Chapter 747: Jealous And Angry
Chapter 747: Jealous And Angry
Erin and the others walked around the Rainier estate, with Arthur leading the way. After exploring a small section of the estate’s beautiful landscape, they arrived at the most picturesque part of the main garden, where flowers that bloomed even in winter were planted. Standing in the gazebo, built on an elevated spot, they had a clear view of the surrounding landscape.
"This was built by Lucian’s father for his wife, even before she agreed to marry him. These are all of Lucian’s mother’s favorite flowers," Arthur explained. "That man was so confident she would marry no one but him, despite her being engaged to someone else."
Erin was surprised. "Was Lady Rainier engaged to someone else?"
Arthur nodded. "Yes, but once Lord Rainier set his sights on her, he didn’t give up. He persuaded her, and eventually, she fell for him. Lord Wynters—Aaron’s father—had to break off her previous engagement and agreed to marry her to Lord Rainier." Arthur pointed to a section of the residence. "You see, that is Lady Rainier’s chamber. From its windows, this garden can be seen clearly. Lord Rainier, though a quiet man, was known as a true romantic when it came to his wife. His love for her was something every woman would envy."
"I wonder if Lucian has taken after his father," Rowan commented. "He speaks so little. Honestly, I doubt he even knows how to express himself properly. Whoever marries him will probably be left guessing and might eventually tire of him."
Erin wondered if Lucian was indeed like his father. Despite her supposed engagement to Aaron, he was laying claim to her. Was he following in his father’s footsteps?
"Who knows," Arthur said. "Maybe a particular woman he takes a liking to will bring that side out of him."
"You mean that kind of lady?" Rowan asked, pointing in a direction where Lucian had emerged from his father’s part of the residence—but he wasn’t alone. A young woman walked alongside him.
"Umm, maybe," Arthur replied, "as long as Lucian has taken a liking to that beautiful young woman."
Erin’s hands tightened around her dress, her eyes fixed in a glare at the two figures in the distance. A sudden feeling of betrayal surged within her, fueling her anger.
"Can’t we go to Wynters instead and take a look at my future home?" Erin asked, her voice tense.
"Of course, whatever you want," Rafal replied, trying to calm her as he noticed her anger rising. "Let’s go."
Erin marched ahead with Rafal, while the other two followed, smiling knowingly at her frustration.
"Oh, where are they headed?" Arthur commented, watching Lucian and the young woman. "It looks like they’re going towards Lucian’s part of the residence. Isn’t his study in that direction?"
"Why would he be taking her to his private space—and by himself—as if she’s someone important to him?" Rowan mused. "There’s definitely something suspicious here. This quiet man may not be so quiet after all; seems he has another side to him."
Erin listened to their conversation, her anger flaring even more as she watched Lucian leading the woman somewhere. Scoundrel!
When they reached Wynters estate, the butler welcomed them in Aaron’s absence. Erin looked around; the Wynters estate was as grand as Rainier’s, but... her heart secretly longed for the Rainier estate. She tried to shake off these thoughts, focusing on Wynters and cursing Lucian in her mind.
It’s all that scoundrel’s fault for saying whatever comes to his mind just to confuse me—and now he’s off entertaining another woman. That jerk! I’m going to ignore him and focus on this new home of mine.
"It’s beautiful," Erin said aloud.
"As beautiful as the Rainier estate," Rowan commented.
"To my taste, Wynters seems much better," Erin replied, dismissing any thought of the Rainier estate. "It’s pleasing to the eyes, just the way I’d like a place to live."
"Lady Wynter—Lord Aaron’s mother—came from a high noble family and was known for her exquisite and refined taste," the butler explained. "After her marriage to Lord Wynter, she made countless changes here, transforming it into one of the kingdom’s most beautiful estates. Many noblewomen even sought her advice."
"No wonder it’s so elegantly beautiful," Erin mumbled, as the others nodded in appreciation.
"My lady, you’ve been outside for quite a while. Would you like me to guide you all inside to enjoy some freshly brewed tea?" the butler offered.
Erin nodded eagerly. "I’d love to see the inside of the residence as well."
"Yes, Lord Aaron already informed me," the butler said. "And please feel free to ask for anything you need."
Erin smiled, following the butler. Now this is how a man looks after a woman, even in his absence. And that scoundrel... his very presence is so infuriating, it’s hard to breathe around him! He could learn a thing or two from Aaron on politeness and care. But no—he’s just arrogant and stubborn. A block of ice. No, a wooden log suits him better. He’s practically a rock, probably has a rock in his skull instead of a brain. An emotionless scoundrel!
"What are you thinking about?" Rowan asked, pulling Erin out of her thoughts.
"Oh... I was just admiring the beauty of this place," she replied. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"I thought you were busy cursing someone," Rowan teased.
She let out a nervous chuckle, as if her brother had caught her in the act. "Curse? Why would I curse anyone? Besides, cursing is not ladylike at all." Internally, she scolded herself, What’s wrong with me? Even though it’s anger, why am I only thinking about him? I need to stop this. I should focus only on the one I’m going to marry.
"When did you start caring about behaving like a lady?" Rowan remarked, turning to Rafal, who was walking beside him. Arthur had stepped away, occupied by a soldier who had approached him with news. "Rafal, our sister suddenly wants to act like a lady."
"She’s already a refined lady, without even trying," Rafal commented, smiling at his sister. "Just be yourself."
"What I’m saying and where you’re going, you slow-brained little brother," Rowan sighed.
They walked inside, and the butler offered them tea. Later, they continued to explore the grand residence.
"Upstairs are the chambers of the Lord and Lady of the estate. Would you like to visit them, my lady?" the butler asked.
Erin glanced up at the second floor, hesitating. She wondered if she should be in those private chambers, especially since she wasn’t yet married to Aaron.
Sensing her hesitation, Rowan spoke up. "You’ve done a lot of walking today. Maybe you should rest a little and leave the rest of the estate for later. We’re here for at least a few more days."
Erin nodded in agreement.
Just then, Arthur returned.
"Anything serious?" Rowan asked, knowing Arthur had left abruptly.
"Nothing of concern," Arthur replied.
At that moment, a servant from the Rainier estate arrived. "Lady Erin, Lady Rina is awake and asking for you. She wanted to come here herself, but Lady Rainier insisted she stay inside."
Erin grew concerned, not wanting Rina to be out in the cold. She looked at her brother. "I should go to her."
Rowan agreed, and Erin left with the servant.
Once she was out of sight, Arthur turned to Rowan. "So, what do you think?"
"We’d best keep our swords hidden," Rowan replied. "We don’t want my sister committing a crime by killing the lord of the largest territory."
