The Destiny Villainess Wants Me To Work!-Chapter 85: Leng Shuang’s Task!
The black Porsche moved steadily along the empty road at the outskirts of Jiangnan City.
The city traffic had long since disappeared behind them. Now in its place were stretched quiet roads, scattered trees, and large patches of undeveloped land. Su Mo glanced out the window for a while before turning his attention to the driver’s seat.
"Shuang," he said with a puzzled expression, "are you sure the Black Bull Gang’s base is somewhere around here?"
He looked through the windshield again.
"If I remember correctly, there shouldn’t be anything but vegetation in this direction."
Although he had only been in Jiangnan City for a short time, his memory was still clear. A few days earlier, Sister Xulin had driven him along this same route when they visited Tianzai Village.
During that drive, he had been observing the scenery out of boredom.
For nearly twenty kilometres, there had been nothing but sparse vegetation and empty land.
Leng Shuang, who was driving, had already dispelled her earlier transformation. She was back in her original appearance. Before leaving the city, she had stopped by a public restroom to change clothes.
Her formal office suit was gone. In its place, she now wore a dark tactical outfit designed for mobility and combat. The same one as last night.
"Be assured, Master," she replied calmly while keeping her eyes on the road. "I’ve already verified the information."
She pointed slightly ahead.
"About two kilometres from here, there’s a narrow left turn. The road is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, but it leads directly to the base."
"The Black Bull Gang’s base isn’t a single building," she continued. "It’s actually a chain of warehouses that has been unused for years. At least in the public eye."
"That’s where they store their so-called goods before exporting them." She listed them one by one in a flat tone. "Arms. Drugs. Trafficked people. And organs."
After a brief pause, she glanced toward Su Mo.
"What are your orders, Master?"
"Should I eliminate them?"
Her tone was calm, but there was a hint of anticipation behind it.
Even if the enemy was numerous and armed, she wouldn’t hesitate if that were Su Mo’s command.
In fact, she almost hoped he would give such an order.
’If I perform well, Master might even teach me cultivation...’
This thought alone nearly made her drool.
Su Mo, however, remained calm. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye and said, "More important than killing them is rescuing the captives."
Leng Shuang froze for a moment. That answer had been completely outside her expectations.
Rescue operations were not her speciality.
In the past, when she had occasionally taken protection missions, her method had always been simple. Eliminate the threat. Once the enemies were gone, the client would naturally be safe.
In fact, one of those clients had been so grateful after the mission that she tripled the payment.
’If only every client were that generous...’
Ending her brief internal monologue, Leng Shuang looked at Su Mo again.
"Master," she said hesitantly, "what if I simply eliminate all the enemies first? That way, we won’t have to worry about distractions while rescuing the hostages."
Su Mo rolled his eyes.
"I know what you’re worried about."
"But don’t worry."
"The gang members won’t interfere with the rescue."
Leng Shuang blinked.
"What do you mean?"
Su Mo’s lips curved slightly.
"They’ll cooperate."
"And perform."
"Perform?" she repeated blankly.
’What does that even mean?’
She noticed from their conversation till now that her master liked speaking in riddles.
Why couldn’t he just explain things clearly from the start?
Still, experience had taught her something important.
If she simply waited and looked confused long enough, Su Mo would eventually explain.
Sure enough, he continued.
"This operation isn’t just about rescuing people," he said. "I want to create a heroic image for you."
Leng Shuang stared at him.
"...For me?"
She looked genuinely speechless.
’Me? A hero?’
Her entire career had been built on the opposite concept.
She was an assassin. Though she thinks of herself as an ordinary wage slave. That doesn’t change the fact.
Someone who solved problems by quietly removing people from the world.
Selfless heroism had never once appeared on her résumé.
"Master," she said slowly, "did you forget something?"
"I was just a hired killer."
"I’ve never done anything that didn’t benefit me."
Su Mo shrugged.
"That’s fine."
"Just think of it as acting."
He spoke casually.
"Pretend you’re a righteous police officer who discovered this trafficking base."
"Use your real face."
"Show concern for the victims." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"If there are children, show extra concern for them."
In other words, he was asking her to display empathy.
Leng Shuang nodded slowly, though she still felt an odd sense of unease.
For some reason, her instincts told her that Su Mo was up to something no good.
Still, since it was his request, she would follow it faithfully.
Soon, the car approached the area she mentioned.
When they were roughly two kilometres away from the warehouses, Leng Shuang slowed down.
"We will be there soon," she said.
Su Mo looked around briefly before speaking.
"Stop here."
The car pulled over.
Su Mo stepped out and glanced at the road ahead.
"Driving any closer will attract attention."
Leng Shuang nodded.
That was true.
The road ahead was narrow and rarely used. A car entering the area would immediately stand out.
Just then, she heard Su Mo continue.
"So you go in alone and attract their attention."
"...Alone?"
"Yeah."
He spoke as if it were natural.
"Remember, your priority is rescuing the captives."
If Leng Shuang didn’t already trust him, she might have thought he was asking her to die.
The base likely contained dozens of armed criminals.
Sending a single person to attack them recklessly sounded suicidal.
But she trusted Su Mo.
"I’ll do my best," she said.
Su Mo seemed to remember something.
"Oh, right. Try to minimise the use of firearms. Focus on close combat."
Leng Shuang bit her lip slightly.
’That’s not going to be easy...’
