Chapter 1012 Do You Want To Lift Her Curse?
Raphael was silent when he heard his mother's words. He was ashamed of himself that he thought his parents wouldn't take his side in that situation. Did he even know them at this point?
It's just that, seeing how they seemed to really like Draco Roseland and treated him well, plus his father's position as the king of Cretea that made him unable to be partial to his children, Raphael thought his father would be forced to take the victim's side, in this case, Draco. No matter how bad Draco was in Raphael's eyes.
"Why didn't you send anyone to talk to me?" Raphael asked regretfully.
However, before his mother replied, the man already knew the answer. It was not his parents' responsibility to clear up the mess surrounding his life. He was an adult and also a subject of the king.
He was the one who should come to his father and make amends. No matter what happened, someone died and his wife was involved. They should at least come to Cretea and clear her name.
"I am sorry," Raphael said. Queen Lilith looked at her son with concern. She had not seen him for a while so she missed him a lot, but her husband was right when he said that they needed to let Raphael be so he could learn something from this incident.
"I heard you got married," Queen Lilith said softly. She pursed her lips. "You are just like Heron. I thought you wouldn't do that to me."
Heron was Raphael's older brother who eloped with a woman he fancied five hundred years ago, before Raphael was born. The woman was a demoness and didn't really get along well with their mother.
This made Heron some sort of a black sheep in the family. Raphael almost never saw his brother and he knew his mother missed Heron so deeply.
Deep inside, he felt bad about unintentionally doing the same thing to his mother. He left their home to be with the woman he loved and didn't return for so many years. Now, he realized his action must have reminded his mother of what Heron did.
Raphael felt sorry for what happened. He didn't want Queen Lilith to think he also abandoned their family for a woman. Well, technically... that's what he did, but he didn't mean to hurt her.
Ahh... so hard.
"I'm sorry, mother," Raphael hugged his mother sincerely and sighed. "I need to make up for it."
Queen Lilith patted his back and hugged Raphael more tightly. After they broke off the hug, she looked at him attentively and noticed the faint sadness in his eyes. Queen Lilith was wondering if Raphael and Rowena had a problem.
"How is she?" she asked. "Why is she not coming with you?"
"She still felt bad about what happened," Raphael explained. "She thought you hate her."
Queen Lilith shrugged. "Hate is a strong word."
"So, you don't hate her?" Raphael thought with what happened it would be easy to misunderstand Rowena. And so, he actually expected his mother wouldn't feel fond of his wife.
"I don't love her," the queen replied honestly. "but I don't hate her."
Raphael smiled. "That's good enough. Thank you."
"However," Queen Lilith raised her hand to motion Raphael that she was serious. "I do think she is a problem child and I am worried she will make you suffer."
"You are wrong about that," Raphael replied. "She has made me incredibly happy, and she will always do."
Queen Lilith didn't say another word. Raphael sounded like a man in love, and someone in love always sees things through rose-colored glasses. She knew it was futile to convince him otherwise. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝘸𝑒𝒷𝘯ℴ𝘷𝑒𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝑚
"Very well," Queen Lilith decided to ask Raphael his purpose in coming back to Cretea. She didn't beat around the bush. "Do you come here because you wanted to find a way to lift her curse?"
"Huh?" Raphael raised a brow. "What curse?"
"She killed someone in Cretea, she won't be able to conceive. You didn't know?"
Raphael's eyes bulged when he heard his mother's blunt words. "How did you know?" fr eenovelkiss.com
"That she is barren?"
Raphael nodded faintly. "Yes."
"I don't. I was guessing that's what happened," Queen Lilith said. "Well, If you didn't flake on your history subject, you would have known about the ancient scrolls and what they told us about our sacred land. You can't shed blood and kill anyone in Cretea."
"..." Raphael looked at his mother in horror. He honestly didn't know of such a thing. "I didn't know..."
"It almost never happened, so not many people are aware of it," Queen Lilith said.
"Can you... can you tell me more about it?" Raphael touched his mother's arm and pleaded. "How can we lift the curse?"
"You can't," said the queen flatly. There was a hint of sadness in her voice. "There is no way to help her."
"Lies!"
Raphael was surprised by his own rudeness. He just accused the queen of Cretea of being a liar. His own mother.
Fortunately, the queen was not offended. She understood this knowledge must be shocking to her son.
"When someone cannot appreciate life, they are not deemed worthy of bringing life into this world," she said solemnly. "That is a universal truth."
"But Draco Roseland was an evil scum who didn't deserve to live," Raphael said angrily. "If back then I knew the extent of evil he had done to Rowena, I would have killed him with my own hands. Tell me why someone like him was let free and his death is not celebrated?"
"Raphael! It's not for you to kill a human. If Rowena was treated poorly by her father, why didn't she say so when she had the chance? She was here for a month, together with her father. Not once did she indicate that she suffered under his care..." Queen Lilith started to get angry too.
She loved her son dearly and she thought after Raphael knew Rowena, he had changed so much and now he even left their family.

I am sorry for the long break on this book. I had burnout and it was debilitating mostly. At the end of every day, after I managed to do things I MUST DO to earn money and make sure my kids are still alive, I was left with no energy to do anything.
I also initially didn't want to publish sparsely whenever I have a little chance here and there and preferred to wait until I really recover because I feel sorry for those of you who purchased the privilege. However, now I have reconsidered my decision.
