Chapter 437: Break the Spell

Abel could feel her heart drumming fast against her chest. It was an opportunity for her to know how she would just turn into putty against his arms in advance, he supposed.

Back in reality, Dani quickly gave him an awkward smile as she steered the situation. "Is there anything that you kept from when you were a baby? Our Seer happens to have the power of seeing the past by touching things," she suggested. "She could help you... Also, didn’t it cross your mind to look for someone with a clairvoyance ability to see the past through things? Did you keep it? Do you have anything from when you were a baby? That can be your way to find out about your origins!"

Abel chuckled and shook his head. He wanted to tease Dani, but he didn’t want to kill this magical moment between them. But Dani... she had a knockout for it.

"You... you have a talent for killing the mood, Dani," he remarked with a loud sigh.

Dani chuckled. "You look like you were ready to eat me, so I had to do something," she snorted. "We’re in a public place after all, and it’s not the time for you to be playful, Chancellor."

"Don’t worry. Next time, I’ll take note to eat you in a more private setting," he smirked. "Being playful in a place like that sounds more fun if I’m being quite honest."

Dani’s face turned red from his words, and Abel simply chuckled as he enjoyed her embarrassment. He could only assume that she was glad that a servant approached them to fetch for him.

"I’ll probably see you tomorrow if I’m not busy," Abel told her. "I’ll be going ahead then."

Dani just nodded as she watched Abel leave with the servant. For a while, she remained in the pavilion, wondering about the Coupling Dance she now had to learn.

"Damn that bastard," she cursed Abel, realizing that it was his fault that she had to dance.

Another day passed by as Abel did his routine work. A lot was needed because of the coming full moon tonight. And besides, the king gave him more work than usual as he intended to be away with the Queen for a few more days after the full moon.

Abel let out a sigh after reading one of the suggestions regarding the other provinces currently on his desk. Leaning his back onto his chair and his head on the headrest, he blankly stared at the ceiling.

"You look bored," Fritz said.

Abel didn’t bother to even look at his Maker as he asked, "How’s the investigation on the warlock Nimue?"

If he recalled, he was the one monitoring the situation knowing that this warlock was the one who Rosela colluded with before to manipulate Nikolai through a powerful dark spell. He wanted that warlock’s life to ease the guilt he was feeling from neglecting Rosela, which led to her walking down the wrong path.

"Luis is pissing me off. How come our King didn’t inform me that it’s Luis handling the case now?" Fritz complained, and Abel heard the loud crack of his fan opening to cool himself as usual. The man often did it whenever he was annoyed and angry, or even whenever he was teasing and in a great mood.

"Things happened so fast, and the Queen’s life just became entangled with another person on top of that. As such, he had to send his best men out there to protect that person. That person just happened to be Taro," Abel commented with a sigh. "Just do your best to work well with Luis. He’s a professional, and he won’t make things personal. Also, he won’t answer to anyone but the king, so don’t expect him to report to you. If you need him, just approach him first."

Abel continued to look up at the ceiling, but Dani’s face constantly popped up for some reason. He was so drawn to her that it was sometimes troubling. Not that he couldn’t handle it, but it still baffled him how she managed to get him into her like this. It was as if he was utterly bewitched by her.

Abel blinked, and his eyes suddenly lit up to an idea that just crossed his mind. He looked at Fritz this time as he asked, "Do you need help? I mean, I can talk to Luis and be your way through him if you need anything from him."

Fritz raised a brow at his offer. The man had a habit of give and take, and he had thought of asking him about it before. While he couldn’t think of what to bargain with this petty progenitor of his, right now, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to ask him a favor. Luis and Fritz weren’t on good terms, and the latter hated talking with the former who would just often mock him. To put it simply, both men always got on each other’s nerves.

Fritz frowned as he hissed, "And what do you want from me in return? Just tell it to me straight."

Abel grinned and said, "I heard from Master Cyan that you’re the best at breaking spells."

Fritz raised his eyebrows and replied, I’m good at it, but I can’t break every spell there is. Tell me, what kind of spell is it that you want me to end?"

"The thrall chaining spell," Abel replied. "So, can you break it? If you can, then I’ll help you out in all terms of talking with Luis. You see, Taro will be gone for a while, so everything will be in Luis’s hands in the meantime. I’m sure you’ll need a lot of details from him if you want your own investigation to wrap up."

He knew how addicted Fritz was to solving hard puzzles to the point that he would only stop unless he was finished with every case he had open.

There was this deafening silence as Abel waited for Fritz’s answer.

"Fine, I’ll break the spell," Fritz stated, making Abel almost jump from his seat out of victory.

Already, a lot was going on in his mind about how to tease his Dani. Of course, once the spell was broken he had no intentions of telling her about it. He would play along with her still, making her think that the spell was still active on him.
