Chapter 185: Falling Into The Depths Of The Abyss [6]

A surge of demonic energy burst out of Dante’s neck, traveling toward the rest of his body. Once it touched the body, it clung to it like a slimy tendril and dragged it toward the hole.

It kept dragging it until it reached the head. Next, it attached it to the neck by force, cutting away the extra flesh that had grown due to Dante’s regeneration.

Everything was done automatically without Dante needing to do anything other than maintaining the ability. After a few minutes, he regained his sensation in his body.

And the first thing that happened was a surge of power that flew from his head toward the attached body, enhancing it greatly.

"I succeeded..." Dante inhaled deeply as the weight of the achievement pressed on his heart.

"Wasn’t that cannibalism?" All of a sudden, Greed appeared in front of him: "Oh my, how did my descendant start eating his own kind? That’s truly evil and disgusting!"

Dante froze for a few seconds, tasting the remains of Raga between his teeth.

They were... disgusting.

He ate a humanoid being, a being that looked like his past self. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

He ate a demon, a demon like his current self.

But...

He also ate that being’s demonic bloodline, vitality, and spirit.

Yes, even his spirit!

Apparently, in this form, he didn’t need to use Greed to absorb spirits!

"This... this feels great!" A smirk tugged at Dante’s monstrous face, which could have made the bravest men tremble in fear.

He wasn’t disgusted by that anymore. Instead, he felt truly great!

He lost a relic, a regression mark, some mana crystals, and 20% of the bloodline awakening syringe.

And what did he get in exchange?

He killed a Rank 3 beast, stealing the kill from Raga and absorbing its soul.

He killed Raga himself, absorbing his bloodline, vitality, and soul.

He got his revenge!

"Elizabeth... should be happy now, right?"

Yes, she was indeed happy.

Not only her, but also every single person who was killed by Raga.

"They are smiling at me now, don’t you think, Greed? I avenged them all! I killed him, I killed him, I killed him! Hahahaha!!"

Dante raised his head and laughed, his voice shaking the air and his tears flowing from all his eyes.

[You have killed two Rank 3 entities in less than 30 minutes despite being Rank 2. The World Runes acknowledge your feat!]

[You have killed the fastest Rank 3 living entity despite being Rank 2. The World Runes acknowledge your feat!]

Just then, the colorful World Runes surrounded Dante’s colossal figure, giving him two messages that acknowledge two different feats.

"Oh, congrats!" Suddenly, a familiar feminine voice echoed in his ears, and Dante knew immediately that it was the parasite.

Before he could react, they suddenly invaded his body, but not in a harmful way.

The first wave filled his Core of Existence with Existence Essence, over 500 Existence Essence to be precise, giving him 10 points to every stat he had except for his demonic energy.

The second wave gave him a relic and granted him all the knowledge he would need.

...Even the world itself was rewarding him.

Was there any reason not to be happy?

This was worth everything.

"...!"

Suddenly, Dante’s body began to shrink.

His thin centipede legs disappeared.

His eyes fused.

His horns shattered, and cracks spread across his exoskeleton.

Dante immediately realized that the duration of his bloodline awakening had ended.

Instantly, he used his wings and arms for one last time, climbing out of the hole and flying out of that burned area.

Eventually, he found himself not too far from the abyssal gate, but not too close to the destruction.

Simultaneously, the transformation ended, leaving him as a normal humanoid being once more.

However, there were three differences.

The exoskeleton spread more across his body and became harder, another part of his body, which was his nose, had mutated into a demonic nose.

And finally, a small centipede horn rose from the right side of his head, giving him the undeniable appearance of a Greed Demon.

For a few seconds, he just stood there, his eyes closed firmly. But that didn’t last for long as he fell to his knees and started vomiting blood.

That blood wasn’t in small amounts. His whole body felt as though it was a tank that contained more than it could hold, which caused immense pressure inside him.

Even after minutes, he still kept vomiting blood. He was kneeling in a pool made of his own blood.

"Oh, I forgot to mention, that’s the downside of using that syringe." Greed said casually and yawned: "But it’s okay, it’s going to end soon. Nothing permanent, just some extra blood that your body should get rid of. It’s not called ’bloodline’ for no reason."

Dante didn’t even register his words as he kept vomiting blood endlessly.

Greed looked at him for a moment, or the being within him, before saying: "You look concerned. I didn’t know your cursed species could show something like that. When I took you from them, they only cared about themselves and no one cared about you."

Suddenly, a black eye appeared on Dante’s body, glaring coldly at Greed.

Greed chuckled: "Maybe living with him changed your natural mindset. You should either curse me or thank me now, depending on whether you see it as good or bad."

"I hate you." The parasite hissed before disappearing into Dante’s body again, unable to decide what to do in order to ease Dante a little.

Eventually, it used a tendril to pat his head, hoping that it would work.

After a few more minutes, Dante finally stopped vomiting blood as he struggled to get to his feet.

For a moment, he wanted to hug himself in a corner and rest after all the work he had done, but he erased that thought immediately.

"Rest..." Dante’s eyes sharpened: "Not yet."

Resting too much was what was what led to this situation.

He had lost Elizabeth and the others because of his recklessness and stupidity. He was the one who destroyed the relic recklessly despite being too weak to deal with the consequences.

He was the reason the abyssal gate was now that big, and it was still expanding!

"I should change this." Dante smiled, forgetting all his pain, and moved.

His eyes were fixed on the abyssal gate, the one that proved that everything went the way Greed desired.

"You told me about the Abyss, and immediately, I found that cursed relic, which I later shattered with the chaos blaster." Dante’s grin widened: "Suddenly, you started caring so much about the relic. You wanted to tell me the dangers of destroying that relic in the hope that I wouldn’t destroy it."

"Or so I had thought at that moment. You would have made me hesitate if you actually told me to destroy it, and you know this. You intentionally made me destroy it!"

Greed didn’t deny: "Yes. Seems like the corruption gave you more brain cells, huh? That relic was important, but opening this gate was more important. I had to sacrifice a fragment of myself to achieve my goal, just like how you sacrificed the relic and a regression mark to kill that demonic giant."

"Isn’t that adorable? Now that you have accepted the abyss within yourself, you look more and more like me! I really like that about you."

Dante frowned for a split second before his smile returned: "Who said I accept this?"

"Hmm?" Greed raised an imaginary eyebrow, as his centipede form had none.

Dante explained proudly: "Why should I accept this? I can’t stop the abyssal gate that you manipulated me to make, but I can make my own gate! Won’t that make everything more fun?"

Greed was silent as Dante continued: "That gate will either be used for the giants’ plans, let more abyssal creatures come into this world, or both! I don’t like them. I don’t like what you want to use it for, but I don’t like it as well."

"Thus, why don’t I open my own gate and see what would happen? This might disturb your plans and the Uldor’s plans! After all, everything would depend on your luck!! And as far as I know, you can’t predict anything related to luck. Even I, the owner of the Misfortune Aspect, can’t predict it."

Without wasting any time, Dante bit off his finger and started drawing a formation on the ground from his memory.

The formation was big, filling a wide area with blood.

That blood contained Dante’s mana and spiritual energy, using his identity as a person from Earth. He also made sure to use the Misfortune Aspect with his spiritual energy, ensuring that the outcome wouldn’t be pleasant to anyone.

It included hundreds of strange runes and numbers. Among them, there were two arrays which were bigger than the others.

Dante threw all the small mana crystals he had on one.

Then he threw all the Cores of Existence he possessed on the other, leaving only a thousand Rank 1 cores and all the Rank 2 cores in his pouch, which he absorbed immediately, getting 2 more points in every stat he had.

He now had exactly 800 Existence Essence.

It was as though they intentionally gave him only enough to get one more boost upon using all the remaining cores he had.

However, Dante didn’t think about that for so long and continued drawing.

After he finished drawing the formation, he scanned it proudly.

"Maybe I could have gotten myself a job as an artist back then."

Sighing helplessly, Dante sent a sparkle of chaos energy into the formation, activating it completely.

CRACK!

Within a second, the space in front of him shattered, slowly opening a gate to another world.

It was the formation he had learned about in the Chaos Magic book.

It only needed Cores of Existence, mana crystals, and a person from Earth.

He just... decided to give it more than recommended.

More mana crystals meant the gate would open for more duration.

More Cores of Existence meant the gate would more likely lead to a strong world filled with chaos energy.

More misfortune meant that nothing good would come from that gate.

The more, the better, right?

"Greed, I decided." Dante whispered: "I think I want you to be completely mine instead of destroying you. That would be great."

"It’d be a shame if I were to lose your abilities as a mask or your sharpness as a sword."
