The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1047: Resemblance
Chapter 1047: Resemblance
Even deprived of vision, Qing Ling could still pinpoint where Qilin was. The traces she had left on Qilin’s arms, shoulders, and back allowed her to track him with God of Blades. She pictured his overall silhouette in her mind.
She fully concentrated on her blades until she became one with them. Wielding her Butterfly Twin Blades, she spun and made a flurry of cuts at Qilin like a masterful dancer.
Armored in black shadow, Qilin got caught in her slashes and twitched like grain in a thresher. Indigo blade aura multiplied and accelerated until only a blur of afterimages remained.
There had been many times Qilin tried to use his Talents, yet she always interrupted him. While Qing Ling's every slash only barely parted the shadow armor and did no damage, the lightning entered his body and triggered a slight numbness with every contact.
Each current was negligible, yet getting hit with dozens of currents every second left Qilin unable to focus—a potentially lethal disadvantage.
Qilin's confusion compounded. How was she so fast, and getting faster and faster? No, she wasn't simply fast, but growing more and more powerful as she fought.
Qilin reached his conclusion.
Deactivate Six Senses Judge!
His vision returned as the Talent powered down. Qing Ling recovered her vision and hearing, too, but it ended up disrupting her concentration, and her blades missed their mark.
Qilin seized the chance to open his eyes and use Brain Formatting at the risk of getting blinded. In melee range, the attack was terrifyingly fast, and it was the only move quick enough to hit Qing Ling before she attacked him.
Sensing the danger, Qing Ling retracted her blades and stomped on Qilin’s chest with the second the Golden Armor bought her. The counterforce sent her flying over ten meters away. She landed on the top of a car parked by the road.
Without pausing, she jumped again to the top of a street lamp.
A short reprieve arrived.
Legs tucked, Qing Ling perched on the street lamp, her black hair running free; her ponytail had loosened during the fight.
Hands lowered, she splayed her fingers to call her long blades back. The other weapons returned to her like loyal soldiers. The metal glinted under the moonlight.
The moon hanging just behind her rimmed her silhouette with silver. She looked down upon Qilin.
Armor retracting, Qilin was covered in injury and blood, his suit tattered. Despite his state, though, he hadn't actually suffered much damage.
He looked up at her. “When did you acquire it?”
Qing Ling wasn’t surprised that Qilin would notice so soon. “When I woke up from the dream.”
QIlin chuckled. “You do bear some resemblance to Azure Dragon.”
Qing Ling didn’t like the comment, but she didn’t feel like wasting her breath.
Speaking of the man colored Qilin’s dark eyes with a fleeting hint of sorrow. Then his lips curled into a pleased smile. Just as well. I’ll consider this you witnessing my promise to you, Azure Dragon.
...
Sensing the death of his double, Gao Yang quickened his pace. While dodging the incoming attacks, he rushed to the center of a street.

The puppets chased him down doggedly while keeping their distance. Gao Yang was a top-tier melee fighter. Qilin couldn’t spare enough attention to control the corpse puppets while fighting Qing Ling.
However, it wasn’t easy for Gao Yang to destroy the puppet brands either. All of them were covered in black bandages, concealing the brands.
Whoosh. Poisonous wind swarmed up to him once more. This time, Gao Yang didn’t run away, but quickly strengthened the Golden Armor protecting him.
Two seconds later, the poison began to taint the armor and left dense brown spots. While the poison wasn’t penetrating through the energy armor, it posed a great threat. If there was even a crack in the armor, Gao Yang would be killed instantly.
As he had expected, the puppets grew aggressive.
Nomad, Amon, Jing Ke, Zhong He, and Yellow Lotus rushed at him, while Liao Liao, hiding in some dark corner, fired bullets at the same spot on Gao Yang, trying to leave a crack in the Golden Armor so that the poison might get through and kill him.
Clang, clang, clang! Rather than tanking the bullets with his armor, Gao Yang conjured a golden shield on his arm to block the shots, remaining where he was.
Liao Liao jumped out of her hiding spot through the window, quickly drawing close to Gao Yang while opening her mouth to use Disorientation.
If it worked, it could disrupt his Golden Armor.
Gao Yang could guess her intention, of course.
He had many ways to stop Liao Liao. The safest way would be to disrupt everyone’s Talents for a second with Wave of Serenity, but that wasn’t his choice. Instead, he did things the simplest way: he cast three fire darts at Liao Liao quickly. She dodged them and thus didn’t use Disorientation immediately.
Gao Yang continued to throw fire darts at her to keep her busy as he waited for the other puppets to get close. When the closest puppets were less than ten meters from him—
—Now!
He broke the Golden Armor himself and sent the shards tainted with poisonous wind flying in all directions. Like poisonous bullets, the golden shards flew toward the corpse puppets—they were still flesh and blood and would melt into piles of rotten meat at contact with Pestilence’s poison.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work as intended.
Gregor had pulled back as much of the poison clinging to the golden shards as he could the moment Gao Yang shattered his armor. Only the few puppets at the front got caught, and they had instantly turned Unreachable for half a second so that the poisonous golden shards flew through their bodies, missing them at the last second.
It seemed that Qilin had anticipated the move.
But well, it was only an unnecessary attempt.
“Agh—”
Gao Yang conjured a double and used Wave of Serenity. Ample white energy surged from his body and rippled through the street, silencing everyone for a second and disrupting their Talents.
Gao Yang sprang back to action before anyone could react.
Spirit Domain!
The domain covered the closest puppets around him.
One-third time passage!
And he became three times faster!
Meanwhile, Gao Yang’s double knelt behind him, pressing his hands together before slamming them on the ground.
Time-Space Gap!
