The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife-Chapter 471: Escape Through the Vents
Wushuang and Ghost Face squeezed through the small ventilation shaft. The duct was very narrow, making Wushuang uncomfortable, and the large frame of Ghost Face felt even worse. As they climbed through, they passed directly over the outside of the vault. There were already more than thirty fully armed people outside the vault. In the middle stood a middle-aged gentleman. If Wushuang was correct, he was the Duke. The news certainly traveled fast.
They must have touched something inside or left something behind that was discovered, which alerted the Duke. The ventilation shaft could lead to the roof or the third floor. The roof was definitely out of the question.
Since the Duke had found them, there must be snipers on all five surrounding castles. If they went to the roof, they would become targets. So Wushuang followed the ventilation shaft to the third floor.
The third floor was quiet, with few people. They entered through the elevator shaft, using the same method to evade surveillance. The Duke’s phone rang. The fifth-floor surveillance room called him to report that the monitoring screen had just experienced another problem.
"Which floor?" the Duke asked coldly. He had already given orders for the surveillance room to report any abnormality to him immediately. So, as soon as he heard the monitoring was compromised, the Duke quickly deduced that they had exited the vault.
These thieves were quite capable.
"Floors three to five are dark," the guard said. When the anomaly occurred, they switched the floor screens, and all three floors were completely dark. A cruel smile crossed the Duke’s lips. "Everyone to the third floor!"
The agents, assassins, and guards outside the vault put away their firearms and rushed to the third floor.
The Duke ordered a detailed inspection of the third floor, using all available equipment, and instructed the dozen snipers outside the castle to get into position. If anyone was spotted climbing down the outer wall of the castle, they were to be shot immediately.
The agents and assassins searched the third floor but found no trace of Wushuang and Ghost Face. Instead, the search party lost four agents. When the Duke found them, three had been shot, and two had their necks snapped.
The killing methods were different. He narrowed his eyes coldly. There were two people.
"Do not spread out. These two are cunning. Maintain contact, and report immediately if contact is lost," the Duke commanded.
Wushuang and Ghost Face hid behind a bed in a third-floor bedroom. Both found the situation slightly ridiculous. This was the first time they had experienced such a predicament. There was no other way. People were guarding the outside of the castle. They couldn’t slide down the outer wall; it was too dangerous.
Even if they slid down, how would they escape? Five hundred meters of open ground, with no obstacles, and snipers positioned on high ground. They would surely be shot. The only option now was to stall them.
Hiding was not Wushuang’s style, especially when she heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
"Hey, Ghost Face, do you still have the skills of the number one assassin?"
"Hmph, I’m afraid *you* don’t!" Ghost Face countered coldly.
The two exchanged a smile. *Let’s go for it.* Hiding like this, being discovered was only a matter of time.
They rolled out from behind the bed and stood on either side of the door. When two agents kicked open the door, Wushuang and Ghost Face each grabbed one. Wushuang swiftly broke the man’s shin, and Ghost Face’s thin blade sliced across the other man’s throat. Their muffled grunts reached the ears of the other agents, who quickly rushed toward the room.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted.
On the third-floor hallway, the sound of gunshots was incessant. Wushuang and Ghost Face dodged while taking down the Devil’s Castle personnel. At the same time, they had to be wary of the windows, daring not to get close, or they would become targets for the snipers.
The Duke narrowed his eyes coldly, waved his hand, and commanded dominantly, "Kill them! I don’t care if they live or die."
The agents on the lower floors were also alerted and rushed up to the third floor. Wushuang and Ghost Face had already taken down more than a dozen people. They picked up their firearms and used their bullets to conserve their own supply.
They ran toward the elevator, one in front, one behind, entrusting their backs to each other. In this extreme danger, they placed their trust in one another.
This was the first time Wushuang had placed her trust in anyone outside her family and Kaka.
An agent suddenly dashed out from behind a door and fired a shot at Wushuang’s back. Ghost Face didn’t hesitate. Faster than her, he shot the agent. At the same moment, Wushuang threw a flying knife that hit an assassin between the eyebrows.
Their teamwork was seamless. The assassins on the entire third floor were mostly defeated. The Duke was shocked and couldn’t believe that the assassins and agents he had hired at great cost were so vulnerable. They were almost all wiped out in less than half an hour, some injured and unconscious.
Two assassins guarded the Duke, helping him to leave Devil’s Castle. It was too dangerous.
Wushuang and Ghost Face became more ferocious, cutting a bloody path. Suddenly, a man leaped down from above and tackled Wushuang. He saw that Wushuang was a woman, so he chose her as his target. Wushuang was focused on the front and didn’t notice him. She was tackled down, and her gun fell to the ground, rolling five or six meters away. The man’s dark gun muzzle was aimed at Wushuang’s forehead. The three other black assassins lunged at Ghost Face, separating the two to deal with them individually.
Wushuang grabbed the man’s wrist and twisted the gun muzzle away. At this moment, tragedy struck. The man was already preparing to shoot. In the chaos, Wushuang twisted the gun whichever way felt easiest, and the muzzle pointed at Ghost Face. The bullet struck Ghost Face’s shoulder.
Wushuang was instantly horrified. Ghost Face also knew it was an accident and didn’t think much of it, but he was facing three black men. After being shot, one of the black men’s fists hit his wound. Ghost Face was knocked flying.
The bullet hit Ghost Face’s right shoulder, effectively crippling his right arm.
Wushuang’s eyes flashed with a cold intensity. Regardless of her past relationship with Ghost Face, in this moment of danger, they had saved each other’s lives and were stealing together. They were partners. She absolutely wouldn’t tolerate this mistake—her own mistake that had injured her partner.
The man tried to take a second shot at her. Wushuang raised her right hand, and a blade slashed across his throat. The man was killed. Wushuang quickly got up from the ground. One of the black assassins was about to shoot Ghost Face. Wushuang didn’t hesitate, flying over to tackle him. The gun was deflected, and the bullet hit the window. Wushuang flipped over and straddled the black man’s abdomen. She swung her fist and hit his head, knocking him unconscious.
She was extraordinarily ferocious.
The remaining two black assassins surrounded her. Wushuang immediately engaged them in close-quarters combat. Ghost Face clutched his wound and picked up his pistol. He couldn’t shoot with his right arm, and using his left was too risky. The three of them were fighting hand-to-hand, and he didn’t dare to shoot blindly.
Mo Wushuang’s fighting skills were truly... impressive.
