The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife-Chapter 470: Heat and Secrets
"Yes, the vault temperature is very high," Ghost Face admitted. It was at least 40 to nearly 50 degrees Celsius. He mused that even a vault wouldn’t be this hot with ordinary lighting.
The temperature was incredibly high.
"I feel very hot too," Wushuang said lightly. She asked Ghost Face to help her move a statue, but the problem was that their combined strength couldn’t move it. Wushuang gave up; it was a waste of time, even if they eventually succeeded.
"Squat down and boost me up. I want to take a look," Wushuang commanded directly. Ghost Face raised an eyebrow, staying put. Wushuang’s eyes narrowed, and her smile was dazzling. "Come here. Squat down."
"You want to step on me..." He gestured toward the ceiling.
Wushuang countered naturally, "Do you have a problem with that?"
*Of course, I have a problem!* How could he, a fully grown man, let her step on him? Wushuang reminded him of the time limit. "Stop stalling. We have half an hour left. If we can’t get out, we’re both dead. Of course, I don’t mind if you want to stay and be buried with me, but wouldn’t your little girlfriend be sad?"
Ghost Face was infuriated, fighting the urge to hit her. "You’re so overbearing. What man would dare to marry you?"
The words struck Wushuang’s core anxiety. Her expression changed. Ghost Face also realized he had said the wrong thing and immediately squatted down without a word. Wushuang slammed her foot onto his back, nearly making him fall to his knees. Ghost Face was annoyed. "Woman, gently!"
"My apologies!" Wushuang said with a smile, stepping on Ghost Face’s shoulder. He slowly stood up. Wushuang reached for the ceiling and dismantled the outer glass. As expected, she saw a hidden compartment inside.
Besides the fluorescent light tubes, there was a long, sandalwood box in the dark compartment. Wushuang took the box out. As soon as she opened it, it was indeed the Heart of the Sea. A dazzling blue light, accompanied by heat, spilled out. Something seemed to be flowing inside the gem, radiating spirituality.
It was beautiful.
It truly lived up to its name, the Heart of the Sea. It was both a treasure and a spiritual object.
"Did you get it?"
Wushuang smiled. "I did. Just as I expected."
She replaced the glass. She pivoted off Ghost Face and stood on the ground. He dusted off his shoulder. Wushuang took out the Heart of the Sea. The temperature in the vault immediately soared. Both of them were covered in sweat.
"It’s beautiful. Is this the Heart of the Sea?"
Wushuang nodded. It was a cursed object, yet it was uniquely beautiful and dazzling. No wonder so many people desired it, even though they knew it was ominous.
She let out a sigh of relief. She had finally gotten her hands on it.
Kaka would surely be happy to see it. This was the necklace Hǎilán had always wanted.
There was a ray of hope for Fumo’s curse.
"It’s so hot. What’s going on?" Both of them were soaked in sweat, as if they had just stepped out of a river. It was incredibly hot, and the heat was radiating from the Heart of the Sea.
Wushuang explained, "The Heart of the Sea is a heat-gathering gem and also has a storage function. At room temperature, the gem won’t change, and the temperature won’t rise. But when placed near a bright light, the gem gathers and emits heat, which is why the room temperature is so high."
She hadn’t thought of this initially, only later realizing the room temperature was related to the gem. The hidden compartment inside the bright light was extremely secretive and hard to find. Even if they had searched the entire vault, they might not have found this compartment. If it weren’t for the high temperature of the Heart of the Sea, Wushuang wouldn’t have discovered it.
The Duke probably didn’t know the Heart of the Sea had this function, or he wouldn’t have placed it near a bright light.
Wushuang put the Heart of the Sea into her handbag. She checked her watch. The two of them gathered their things to leave. Wushuang asked casually, "There’s a lot of jewelry here. Aren’t you going to take a piece to make your girlfriend happy?"
When they first met, she didn’t have a good impression of him. Ghost Face was too gloomy, cold, and cunning. She was always direct and open, and she disliked dealing with cunning people.
But as they talked and worked together, she found that Ghost Face wasn’t so bad.
At the very least, he wasn’t tempted by the treasures around him, which surprised her.
He was wearing a mask, so she couldn’t see his expression, but his voice sank considerably. "She died seven years ago. I promised her I would stay with her for seven years and not leave our home."
Wushuang was taken aback and blurted out, "Your woman was really good to you."
After her death, she asked him to stay with her for seven years. It seemed lonely, depressing, and cruel, but Wushuang knew there had to be a reason, and that reason was why he returned to the business as soon as the seven years were up.
Wushuang thought that Ghost Face’s girlfriend must have wanted Ghost Face to let go of his hatred and live well.
That would have been her greatest comfort.
She thought of the last words of Long Chengtian’s woman, which were completely different. She asked Long Chengtian to avenge her. Wushuang guessed that Ghost Face’s girlfriend was also killed as an act of revenge, but the two women’s actions were different.
Ghost Face smiled faintly. "She was."
It was the first time she had seen him smile. It seemed he was also a man of deep affection, a true romantic!
Wushuang’s liking for him immediately soared. Romantic men were the most appealing. Why was there no one who treated her that way?
When they reached the vault door, just as they were about to turn the statue, Wushuang and Ghost Face simultaneously froze. They glanced at each other, their bodies tense. They moved quietly. Wushuang pressed her ear to the stone wall and immediately frowned. She signaled to Ghost Face.
Assassins’ sign language was mostly the same. Ghost Face understood. There were people outside, and quite a few of them, waiting for them to open the stone door and come out. Wushuang and Ghost Face retreated.
"What do we do?" Ghost Face asked. This was a vault. There was no way to escape except through the stone door, but they would be walking into a hail of bullets outside. Their chances of forcing their way out were low.
"We fight our way out!" Ghost Face said. Since there was no other way, a frontal assault was the only option.
Wushuang smiled lightly. "Not necessarily."
"It’s a vault!"
"I know," Wushuang said calmly. "Follow me."
They returned to the small blue tunnel. Wushuang pointed to a corner. "This villa is not without flaws. The lightning protection was initially poor. Five years ago, lightning struck the rooftop water tank and destroyed it. When this area was rebuilt, it was originally a **ventilation shaft**."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course!" Wushuang said in a low voice. Ghost Face’s eyes narrowed. "Leave it to me!"
If it was a ventilation shaft, then it would be easy!
