The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife-Chapter 167: Box Office Blues and Office Antics
Chapter 167: Box Office Blues and Office Antics
"Are you sure you’re not trying to pressure me?"
Wen Nuan glared at him. Ye Feimo simply smiled, "The film’s made. How to boost box office isn’t your job, and if it doesn’t do well, it’s not your fault. What’s there to worry about?"
"How could I not worry?" Wen Nuan sighed. "Tomorrow’s preview screening, Director Lin has invited a lot of critics. I’ll probably be torn apart. It’s really disheartening."
"Don’t you have a lot of confidence?"
"When the drill sergeant asks if you can march, you always say yes, but how many people actually march perfectly?" Wen Nuan grumbled softly. "Have you seen the movie?"
"Not yet, but I’ll be at the preview tomorrow too," Ye Feimo replied. Wen Nuan hummed, silently wondering why he was going.
"I’m truly worried about being utterly lambasted tomorrow." Wen Nuan covered her face. While box office was a secondary concern for her (as investors, Tang Shuwen and Ye Feimo would certainly prioritize it), as the lead actress, she cared more about **public reception**.
She had been quite confident in her acting during filming, but now, she wasn’t so sure.
The two films currently out were both doing well at the box office; one had terrible reviews, the other excellent. Wen Nuan worried her film would be at the bottom. In the latter half of December, two New Year’s films were slated for release: hers and a light romantic comedy.
"Lin Ning has praised your performance highly. What he praises usually doesn’t get criticized—that is, if his judgment isn’t flawed."
"Can’t you just say the first half of your sentence?" Wen Nuan felt a strong urge to hit him with the computer.
Ye Feimo was in a good mood and didn’t argue with Wen Nuan today. He was eager to finish all his work quickly so he could spend more tender moments with Wen Nuan. As a result, Young Master Ye was incredibly energized, like he’d had a shot of adrenaline. Zhang Ling was in and out, happily taking documents up and down.
*Wen Nuan was truly a miracle worker! Look at Young Master Ye’s speed; he was getting three days’ work done in one day.*
His efficiency was off the charts.
Ye Feimo had a meeting at 2:30 PM in the first conference room. Wen Nuan wanted to play with his phone, and Ye Feimo handed it over without hesitation. Wen Nuan happily examined his extraordinary device.
She even consulted a search engine, but still couldn’t find out what brand it was.
Its features were incredibly comprehensive; it had everything a typical phone had and more. It was practically a pocket-sized computer. Wen Nuan thought Ye Feimo’s phone screen was rather plain. She found a beautiful image online. When she went to set it, she realized that the advertisement had been sent from this very phone, and there were quite a few pictures of her already on it.
Wen Nuan chuckled mischievously and set their joint photo as his wallpaper.
Looking back at it, even though Ye Feimo’s lips were only slightly curved, he was holding a Hello Kitty donut, which was unusually cute. Wen Nuan, feeling quite pleased, thought they looked rather well-matched.
After playing for a while, Wen Nuan comfortably drifted off to sleep on the sofa. When Ye Feimo returned, his phone was ringing nearby, but Wen Nuan was sleeping soundly. He quickly grabbed the phone to avoid disturbing her.
It was Han Bi again. Ye Feimo frowned, wondering if he should change his phone number.
He’d used this number for many years, never changing it. All his family and friends knew it, and changing it suddenly would be troublesome. He walked to the window and answered, "What is it?"
"Feimo, it’s Aunt Mei’s birthday party today. Shall we go together?" Han Bi asked with a smile.
Ye Feimo pursed his lips. "I have a female companion."
With that, he hung up.
Aunt Mei was a respected figure in the entertainment industry, a senior veteran from Anning, and an extraordinary artist with many classic works in film, deeply respected by younger generations.
Wen Nuan’s eyelashes fluttered. She only truly woke up after Ye Feimo returned to his seat to work. In fact, she had woken up the moment he entered. The phone call had disturbed her sleep, but luckily, Ye Feimo was back; otherwise, she wouldn’t have known how to handle the call.
*It seemed Ye Feimo’s phone couldn’t be played with casually.*
Wen Nuan straightened her slightly disheveled clothes. Ye Feimo looked up, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "Awake? Want some afternoon tea?"
"I’m on a diet," Wen Nuan said with a smile. While looking up some information online, she suddenly saw a news article that reminded her of Tang Mandong telling her a couple of days ago that Tang Shuwen might be getting married.
Mandong hadn’t said much else, and Wen Nuan had some doubts. The photo was a candid shot of Tang Shuwen with a woman who looked quite slender with flowing dark hair. She was reportedly his fiancée.
Wen Nuan remembered Tang Shuwen as gentle and refined, but also quite wild, comparable to Ye Feimo.
However, she was still quite concerned about her friend’s brother.
"Ye Feimo, Mandong said Brother Shuwen is getting married. Do you know who the bride is?" Wen Nuan asked.
Ye Feimo didn’t even look up. "Her name’s Zhao Yuning. Shuwen’s liked her for many years. He recently mentioned wanting to settle down and get married, but I don’t know if it’s true."
"So it’s true!" Wen Nuan breathed a sigh of relief, happily saying, "When Brother Shuwen gets married, Mandong and I can be bridesmaids!"
Ye Feimo glanced at her, a hint of sourness in his voice. "You like Tang Shuwen very much?"
"Yes, I do."
Ye Feimo gave a cold snort. Wen Nuan didn’t mind. "Mandong used to tell me that Brother Shuwen supposedly had a serious girlfriend once, and after she left, he started his wild ways. I mean, you..."
Wen Nuan paused. *Damn it, these rich young masters have all had pretty similar experiences. It’s really... something to complain about.*
"Mmm, his high school girlfriend."
"From our school?"
"Mmm, a year below me. She was the arts and publicity commissioner in the student union at the time." Ye Feimo paused, then looked up. "Speaking of which, we’re alumni. Call me ’Senior Brother’ and let me hear it."
"Senior Brother my foot! You were about to graduate when I was in seventh grade."
"You graduated when I was just starting seventh grade, so you still have to call me Senior Brother," Ye Feimo said coolly. Wen Nuan ignored him; he was too good at taking advantage of her.
While they were bickering, Chen Xueru called Wen Nuan, her voice sounding a bit off. They arranged to meet at a coffee shop above the Huai River. Wen Nuan greeted Ye Feimo and was about to leave.
"You said you’d stay with me all day."
"Who said that? You said that yourself, didn’t you?" Wen Nuan replied as she put on her shoes, suddenly rushing to his desk and slapping both hands on it. "Ye Feimo, please don’t sideline Sister Xueru anymore, okay? She’s already had enough misfortune."
